Well some days you just feel like putting away the flying training syllabus and going for a joyflight instead!
So today I take my instructor for a fly around the local patch - taking in the scenic kangaroo valley and the shoalhaven river. Along the way we visit Jaspers Brush airstrip before heading back home.
Even though its a joyflight, the learning process never stops - in particular I ask my instructor about the dangers of flying in and out of valleys, as well as the use of the ballistic parachute recovery system which we have installed on this plane

Looks like an awesome trip when you get to escape the circuit and just go flying. I had my trial flight with Ned last week and can't wait just to go solo. Got a few more hours planned when this wind dies down. Keep up the good flyin'. Cheers.

Hey hey - A mate pointed me at this video, that was my voice at the 1h6m33s mark announcing the presence of the formation of 3 RVs. I think we were on the way back from lunch at Moruya. That was a gorgeous day for flying, wasn't it just?

Romeo Juliet Whiskey We were cruising at 140 knots, you wouldn't have seen us for long. :) We're out most weekends. I'm sure our paths will cross. Or fly in to Narromine for Airventure Australia next month if it isn't cancelled, we have a performance slot during the air show on the Saturday.

Some great views on this flight. You haven't posted any videos for a while, would be great to see you fly again.

Subscriber and enjoy your vids, but can I suggest a fixed camera location for the next one? I realise what it takes to put quality vids together and how much time it takes, so please don't think I'm having a go at ya...just found the camera movement a little unpleasant. Much like trying to land a Jabiru LSA55 😂😂 Cheers Anthony.

I do agree with Anthony. It gave me an unpleasant feeling watching it on a big screen and I had to stop it couple of times for a bit. Great video though!

Good stuff. Strictly speaking, shouldn't you be using the QNH off the AWIS, rather than QFE, to set your altimeter?

Steven Pam Your probably right. Can't recall the specific rules off the top of my head. Regardless, we didn't really venture that far from the home airport ( or high) for it to really make much difference

No, I'm sure it was fine. Just wondering if it is a good practice. All my recent experience is at a towered field, so the QNH is provided with the ATIS. Anyway... I enjoyed getting a tour of the local area, and learning a bit about your day job!

Now I remember... The AWIS at YWOL was unserviceable that day. Normally Id get the QNH from the AWIS.

Why would you take your instructor for a joy flight? You are dual here mate... Throw out the instructor and go on your own. You will build more confidence that way than having an instructor there to save your bacon (just saying).

Don't have a cross-country endorsement so had to take an instructor on today's flight.

Romeo Juliet Whiskey Thanks for the explanation.

and I reckon it's good fun, if I was an instructor it would be relaxing for me to just be a little more laid back and just enjoy the view and really experience what flying is all about again. Sometimes all that training will make you a little too focused on one thing, and lose focus on what flying is all about.
