This fourth TalkTalk album is a confirmation of the permanent musical evolution of the band where minimalism masterfully combines precise music with pauses and silences that alternate with more melodic musical arrangements, a voice by Hollis that seeks not to be high-sounding and rather to connect the lyrics with the heart and soul of the listener, some improvisation in the style of jazz, among many other characteristics. TalkTalk are the fathers of modern post rock with this album and they finish confirming it with their latest record Laughing Stock. If we see all the musical production of the band we realize that their five albums are all masterpieces that only confirm the relevance of the band (unfairly underrated in its time) and particularly the genius, creativity, sensitivity, honesty and even simplicity of the great Mark David Hollis who sincerely rest in peace because he deserves it.
NEW WAVE DAVE of West Des Moines Iowa City USA :-) Recovering from his right broken jaw; after attempting to break up a fight; recommended Talk Talk Band with a voice wired shut post surgery. It's my only opportunity so far to enjoy the company of DAVE & his family. A nice picnic with his family with JONATHAN.L.Marten & the discovery of the ORIGINAL "It's MY Life"!!! Natural History was my first Talk Talk Album...@ that point my musical library's collection had every genre my friends recommended, including my first RAP LP BGM by YMO ( the Japanese Band with Ryuichi Sakamoto (Namaste' (RIP3.28.23) with the exception of "NOISE", LoL! Talk Talk is AMAZING! Thanks for ALL of your music! And THANKS: to ALL generations' recommendation's of musical inspiration's! I appreciate YOU :-) truly : Christopher 'Earl Early, JLM, SM, WCS, KB, LTS, TT, IJM, PHT, and the rest, here on our ISLES :-) Namaste' and Happier Day's I Love You my Friends! Warmest Regards -K
@@KELIStmaur-ij6tu Hi 😀 Perchance you haven't already heard it then might I suggest you do yourself a favour and give The Universe of Geoffrey Brown by Captain Sensible (of The Damned) a listen. It's epochal. A term I have never before used in my entire life 😳 (So I'm not even entirely sure it's either true or relevant 🤷♂)
I'm 54 year's old and this is the first time I've listened to this album. Beautiful, complicated, disjointed, challenging, surreal and constantly surprising. In other words everything a great album should be. 🎶
It really reminds me of Kate Bush's album "50 words for snow". It also has longer songs that are rather evolving than following the verse chorus verse chorus bridge scheme. You'll definitely like it.
Christmas Eve 2023,,this record, this beautiful evolution of sound, soul moving, dance interpretively to it,,, deadhead, Garcia fans should know this record
There was a girl in Donetsk, Ukraine I used to pen pal with, write back and forth, and talked on the phone with back in 2012-2014. We met online. She was curious about me and asked me many questions. We became friends. And I hoped to meet her one day. We came to find there was a common appreciation for music. She was a bit younger than me so she didn't get introduced to so much music but also being born into the USSR, she wasn't exposed to everything we were listening to here. She really liked the power ballads. I used to send her 5 songs and she would rate them. I loved introducing her to songs and especially when she'd give it a 5 star. Lol she was probably the first one in Ukraine to hear Donnie Iris! Well, in 2014, the president and his administration were overthrown in Kyiv. Mercenaries, or the People's Republic, moved into the eastern regions, right where she was. Everyday she heard the rockets and blasts. She heard the sounds of war. It was a helpless feeling. She never asked anything from me except emotional support. We spoke on the phone but it kept disconnecting. We wrote to each other. I recall sending her two songs that came to mind in August of 2014. The first one was "Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum. She said that song, she really liked it, and totally reminded her of the situation she was in. The lyrics could be interpreted in such a way that it related to her situation there. The other song, I was hesitant about sending. I was stepping outside the usual power ballad mix. Although, I would gravitate a little here and there to not just sending power ballads but simply good songs. Like, I sent her "Dancing Queen" by ABBA and she loved it! But this was different. I sent her "I Believe In You," from this album. I wasn't sure what she'd think. She ended up going to sleep listening to this song each night! She said it relaxed her and helped her feel peace. And we can only imagine what it was she was living everyday, what she was seeing and hearing with war going on all around her, the fear, the reality, the depression. And that this song could make her feel such calmness is something so special. Well, I can tell you that I have been to Ukraine since and spent quite a bit of time there. I have experienced war there twice now. I now know what it is truly like to lay there in bed and know that each night, someone will be unlucky and the rockets will rain down on them and hit their apartment or their home in the village. It makes this song that much more impressive but I feel even more emotions when I hear this song now. It was as if I saved someone for at least some short periods of time just by sending them this song.
@@darrinheaton4016 thank you. I hope so too. Sadly, we lost touch. Where ever she is, I know she won’t forget me or the music shared. And thanks for reading all that! Lol
I was shocked when I heard the news and it was over a month later. Had to find out on the reliable news source, yt. Not the 'papers' as I no longer get news aside from a scroll bar and headlines. Where have we gone? Where...
Sehr ergreifend dein Kommentar Du sprichst mir aus der Seele. Ich als Bergbauer habe leider wenig Leute um mich mit denen ich über solche Musik sprechen kann. Draum finde ich RU-vid wundervoll.
I'm 63. When I'd hear this band's name I always thought it would be commercial shmaltz so I never thought of checking it out. It is nothing like what I thought it would be. It's really tremendous and I regret assuming it would be something stupid. Love everything about it.
Ditto Earthly Civilian - me same age , me make same judgement way back when - me very glad me stand corrected ! Timeless composition and flawless execution all the way down the production process . . . BRAVO . . .
An amazingly beautiful album, that was my and my son's favorite from the band. I lost him four years ago, and every time I dare listen it rips me apart.
I am so deeply sorry to hear of the death of your son. The wound of it must be deeply appalling. I hope through the world of music and through other people who love you , you will be able to find some peace.
I bought this album on vinyl when it came out in 1988. From memory, reviews weren't very favourable, and it kind of went under the radar. It's not very 80s after all, is it?! Anyway here we are 30 odd years later, and I still play it regularly. It has definitely stood the test of time. As someone else said, a masterpiece.
I guess hollis and Co were tired of what a decade could do to define their music and they broke free of gravity and created timeless music. So thankful for this.
Thank you for uploading this incredible timeless album. The more others take the chance to listen to it, the more musically evolved they will become. Hollis, the Talk Talk band members & their amazing producer(s) are revered & remembered by music lovers all over the planet
Only when your brain cells are connected to your EARS, ie both sides.....are we truely capable of understanding what we are LISTENING to,...& if you DON'T like this album, there is a connection GLITCH somewhere ?
Cotton wool for brains ... I have read it seen it said ... Now I post it as if its my own words Mark Hollis said that phrase( edited for posters act of musical intelligence infer ) On a chat show Anyway would the plagiarism cease unless he can explain each track context and meaning Because I know ... Mark and his brother lived next door to me ..... just 55milion doors away...
@@downunderwondermonger6937 agree totally your comment / sometimes are ears are not set to the right frequency to hear amazing music /i took alot of certain drugs in the 1980s and was kinda stuck in a hippy daze of underground and festival music /i wish to god i heard this i would have heard their brilliance /better late than never i suppose/ we were left with a treasure better than gold x
They definitely took the road less taken - starting as popular but not critically respected and ending up critically respected but not popular. That said, based on their first two albums could anyone have predicted the trajectory? This and Laughing Stock are magnificent for what they are but are not easy listens
Visti in concerto a Firenze nel 1986. Molto bello! Erano all' apice del proprio successo internazionale. Tuttavia suggerisco It's My Mix + gli ultimi due loro lavori capolavoro.
Mark's soul simply didn't deserve to have to see COVID times, and it never did. Out in pure glory leaving behind this music, android humans will never make anything to touch it.
A few things. Some months ago, I was no longer informed of replies to my comments posted. Anyone else experiencing that? Did anyone else listen to Spirit of Eden upon its initial release? It's getting tricky to decifer comments on all social media. Some people's admiration for Mark Hollis and not Talk Talk per se has ventured into Steve Jobs territory, and that's cause for concern. As much as I love Talk Talk, loving Mark Hollis might be a stretch. Please consider reading Phill Brown's, their engineer's accounts in his great autobiography, 'Are We Still Rolling?,' to discover some truths about Friese-Greene and Hollis. I'm not so sure everyone would be waxing poetic about Mark. Sure, he was an Artist, but Miles Davis, Marlene Dietrich, Frank Sinatra, Jim Morrison, Bette Davis, Joni Mitchell and Janis Joplin are and were 'human'. And that's with a variety of foibles. When you ignore your fellow bandmates who have been with you from the beginning and cause one of them to have a nervous breakdown, are you sure you ❤ Hollis so much? Don't take my word, the truth shall set us all free...
Mr. Hollis. Mike Hollis? Einfach nur fett begnadet, dieser Supi-Super Geist, wie er die Musik sieht und denkt, -sowas haut mich in Gnade und weg! Wundervoll! Bliss und blessed an Alle da draußen
But ..If you like Mike , try Mike Scott & the Waterboys ..they also have some FANTASTIC SONGS available ,..be it THE WATERBOYS ,...or just Mike Scott ...up 2 you ?
