Stubby antennas are not your friend when it comes to range. The stock will give you better range unless you use a Nagoya 771G antenna. Also FRS is 0..5 to 1 watt while GMRS is limited to 5 watts on most channels 8 through 14 are limited to 0.5. 15 and on up are limited to 50 watts.
