Amazing how one DUI traffic stop led to such horrible events. That third driver had to see flashing police lights ahead. Why would he be speeding at that point in the first place? Now two people lost their lives and families are destroyed. Seeing that black bag/covering come out after stopping CPR was terrible. Being an off duty EMT myself, I've stopped many times to help people. So far I've been lucky not to be in a situation that bad. Hopefully this video will give people a wake up call to be more careful.
@BlueInMyBlood9005 I thought the same thing. The flashing lights should have been an indication for others to slow down. I am one of those that moves over for cars on the side of the road. I am amazed that by me doing it, it does not influence others behind me to move over.
Great video. I’m wondering can this type of radio work on ham bands? Like 2m with repeater’s or simplex? I’m on the west side near white tanks. I like the all in one in the head unit. I myself have a jeep and know what you mean with no room to mount anything. Thank for any info.
@DJK9RAA there is a VHF version that I'm sure is in that range. This one is a 450-520 but I can squeeze in 446 (the lowest). I've hit repeaters with it but mainly run simplex.
@MrDavisel there are spots I can't connect and think that's it. But then I move over, and it connects. I need to find a more open spot to just keep going as far as I can.
@spearsboy4 I arrived after but from what I learned, a lookyloo may have caused an accident from a previous incident. 1 unalived and 2 transported from what I last heard. 1 in critical condition.
Radio propagation is very strange in the PHX area. I'm down in Queen creek and one moment, I can hit an analog ham White Tanks repeater on 5 watts, then later in the day, I can't hit it, even with 40 watts. Do you find that you get better range with P25 over analog? Also, when using P25, are you on simplex? Just found your channel a couple weeks ago. Really liking the content!
@jevasjunkbox I've had both analog and P25 work better at different times. At times were I expected P25 to work better, analog ended up doing better. I'm usually running simplex for P25. Quantar in the future! Thanks for the feedback! Let me know if you are running P25. I plan to hit up South Mountain and see who can hear me. 🤙
Long press the light button & you have WX band. We use this radio on our Mini-Farm & it's working for that. Works best outside. But I can call from inside the house & we have a tin roof that eats radio signals.
@@colonel9990 Thanks! I played around with it and figured that out. I knew it had to do something else. I can imagine the tin roof will act like a faraday cage. Thanks for watching!
@@RadioCheckk Tin roof does act somewhat like a faraday cage. Outside, I have full bars on my cell signal. Inside the house, 1. Center room in the house 0 signal, no 4g no bars. After watching your review yesterday. Took the radio down the road, about 1 mile from home, and it worked just fine. But, I'm in a very rural area too. Thank you for your review. It was very helpful.
I've really been enjoying your videos. I'm a fan of Motorola, having been a Nextel user back in the day. Unfortunately I don't own a Motorola public safety radio yet, but I will someday. I'm tired of using Baofengs. So, I follow your channel very closely, and your videos are both informative and detailed. Your setup in your Jeep is really cool. I like the fact that only the control head is visible, and such good range you got with it. I do have a couple of questions for you. Are the old portable Motorola Sabers and Astro Sabers able to talk to the XTS line while using digital P25? The sabers are very old so I'm kind of confused as to whether or not they are phase I or phase II and are they all compatible with each other. I just want to be able to communicate between an old Saber and an XTS in digital mode. I'd like to be able to mix and match if possible. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.
@BlueInMyBlood9005 Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. As far as the Saber, they can actually mesh communicate. The original Sabers can talk to the newer Sabers and XTS using analog. The Astro Saber can communicate with the XTS using P25. I will put together a video explaining this. Thank you for the idea!
I really would like to see Frs/Gmrs have digital voice modes FCC should definitely consider it as I've heard alotnof gnrs users use the xts5000 as there gmrs radios and it would be great to use the p25 side of that then simply analog
@CraftinFears_Official Yes! XTS500 went viral for GMRS and Ham users recently to the point that the radio price sky rocket'd. I think we are all waiting for someone to ask FCC to let us, but no one has made that move yet. Lol.
I recently bought five Nextel phones off of eBay. They were all new in the box and they were really cheap. The only thing I had to replace were a couple of the batteries because they were just so old but once I had sprint and boost mobile Sim cards they all work. They have a range around 3 1/2 miles where I am personally from phone to phone, but I wonder if I had a repeater closer to me if it would work at a longer distance? All I know is I wish Nextel direct connect was around when I was a little kid my dad wouldn’t get Nextel and now that I’m older and I have grown up money I went back to my childhood. I’m going back in time to 2005 when I was 10.🤣🤣🤣
Haha, we have access to adult money now! From what I've been learning, it isn't easy finding/locating a repeater because the phones use iDEN, which is a unique format. It's not a commonly used format, and I read its proprietary. I'm sure someone out there built one but is keeping it to themselves!
Years ago FRS was only for personal use. Now FCC doesn't mind business use on it. Things are changing. Only a matter of time before they approve it like they did for ham radio. Just like DMR is being used for ham. 🤙
@flightstatic4662 from what I'm ready all over the internet, FRS can be used for business now. Most "business" radios are pretty much being sold with FRS frequencies.
You seem to know your radios so I was wondering where you would recommend buying a Motorola Astro Saber III FPP. I know Ebay has them but I would rather a more trustworthy place to buy a legit radio that will work well, numbers that match, and is in fairly good cosmetic condition. The NYPD has gone encrypted so buying a $1,000 XTS 5000 just isn't worth it anymore.
I could be wrong but I don't believe Astro Sabers came with FPP. I only say that because I searched for an XTS3000 with FPP and found it was a new feature with XTS5000 (and newer). eBay is definitely a hit or miss, but every so often, you may find a legit company selling on eBay. Depending on the band they are using, you could find a fairly cheap XTS5000/2500 for under $1000
a certain group of people would very loudly and obnoxiously be on the speakerphone of these things loud as hell in like grocery stores and other public places. so annoying
Nice install! Is this set up or can it be set to use on ham bands? I like just having a head unit. My other radios I have this big come steal look. How do you program fq? Also could you show your antenna set up? You said south mountain!! I’m near the white tanks. If you need a radio check let me know I have UHF ham ( if that will work) thanks
The radio originally came with 446 installed and worked fine. The radio is 450-520 so the lowest I could get it to go was 446. I've seen other R1 models go ham channels even with repeater access. Hit me up on the gram! I definitely need a radio check in the valley @radiocheckk
I miss nextel more than anything! If they announced a comeback tomorrow i would get rid of my iPhone without question! My first nextel was the i1000 and it was the best phone ever! I had every single phone from Nextel and I made so much money from changing the cases, antennas, led lights and installing custom ringtones!! Nextel if your searching the comments section please bring back the best phone service ever
A lot of other cellphone providers jumped on the wagon and created their own. I remember Verizon had a PTT but none work off network like Nextel did. Nextel kicked @$$
I looked it up and says it has iDEN 800 mhz so I don't think direct talk would work. I only say that because I've read that the direct talk is 900 mhz and has to have the Direct Talk feature.
I had the same said to me, why don't you get a wouxon or Baofeng. I said because I am a Commercial Radio guy and I know the difference between a Cheap Chinese radio and a Motorola or Kenwood radio. I'm mostly working in the near field of so much RF all around and the Chinese radios do not work up on the hill tops or the mountains at many repeater sites I go to. The smart thing is to get a Commercial radio and sit down and add all the frequencies you know you need and the ones you want and add them to different zones. Ham zone, GMRS zone, Public Safety Zone and so on. I have mine set up in all different zones, Public Safety, Ham, GMRS, and FRS. My types of radios are the XPR versions, XPR-7550e, the XPR 6550, XPR 3500e, XPR 4550 and the XPR 5550e. Also have in service is the Kenwood TK-8180 (k) and many of the TK 3180. I have two repeaters online with a Raspberry Pi3-B+ and on allstar nodes linked to many different repeaters in California (BayArea, Clearlake), Oregon (Roseburg and Medford area) and Boise, Idaho. Most often I use these XPR series of Mototrbo Radios on DMR and Analog. DMR is great too like P25. I preferer only commercial gear, yes, the cheap radios work but give them to the kids ok, Motorola and the like are the best that is why the professionals use these Motorola and Kenwood radios. The XPR 6550 radios will last a long time of abuse and they can be had on eBay for as little as $175.00 with Battery and charger. This is a version I would only buy and if you are a Ham radio operator there is a Code Plug hack on eBay for $15.00 to modify your radio and it's fast. This version is best to be had for GMRS, FRS and Hams. Motorola model XPR 6550 with serial number is best to be had. I was a big Nextel fan and was so sad to see it go. A few years ago I found out about Zello which is pretty close to having Nextel back, but for free this time. I even bought a couple of network radios due to their very loud speakers. I was wondering if you use Zello, what your thoughts are, and if you would ever make a video about it. I know it's not traditional two way radio, but it's similar.
It's funny how you mentioned the old boom box letting you know that you were going to get a call during those old flip phone days. In my case, not only did my stereo amp make that weird sound, but the phone would actually turn my amp on and off when sitting next to the remote control. Somehow the signal from the phone interfered with the stereo remote too.
I'm looking to buy two Direct Talk capable phones but I'm curious about the sound quality. I know you used the i1000 plus which I'm familiar with. I owned many of the older Nextel phones too, so I know they were all very loud. Do you feel that the ic502 flip is just as loud? I'm curious because on Ebay I noticed the i355 non flip is more expensive and you can actually see the rear speaker making it "appear" to be just as loud as the i1000 plus. What is your opinion/advice?
@BlueInMyBlood9005 the ic502 is definitely not as loud as the i1000 or even the i95. I'm more familiar with the actual Nextel and not the Sprint Nextel phones. I am seeing that i355 is more expensive but not sure. Seems like a more durable phone so might be priced a little higher. That one does have dual 800/900 band so sounds like it has the Direct Talk feature.
@@RadioCheckk Thank you, I had a feeling that would be the case but I needed to be sure. Can't beat those old Nextel phones. My favorite was the i700plus. Bought it used on Ebay but was way better than my brand new i90c.
You chose the best possible comparison for two way radios, so beginners can see how price does matter when it comes to all around quality. The only thing I wanted to add to your video is the problem Baofeng has while driving. I own a number of the affordable Chinese made radios that make me go crazy while trying to use them when driving. What happens is, "while in motion" there is a lot of what sounds like ignition noise/static on RX. It doesn't happen if you come to a stop light, only while in motion. I've asked in the forums and everyone says it's the radio circuitry that Baofeng/China skimps on when manufacturing them. They told me to wave the radio around in the air during RX, standing outside away from the car, and yes there's a lot of static, so it's not ignition noise. In comparison, when listening to a Motorola it's loud and clear in the same conditions. Price and brand definitely matters here.
I hear the same with the Baofeng. Interference from other devices including coming from the car. I'm sure it has to do with the parts it's made from or the fact that the Baofeng has no audio enhancements whatsoever. I know Motorola has some audio technology in their radios to wean out any unnecessary noise.
I'm not sure if I ever heard that radios need to be broken in like shoes. In fact, it would be the other way around. A 20 year old radio would be anticipated to do worse while the brand new Baofeng should outperform the XTS3000. Yet, it didn't. Beyond wear and tear, the XTS3000's audio, durability, and capabilities, it outshine the Baofeng.
the point i was making is that the baofeng is probably gonna be broken out of the box either way its a $18 radio any sane person would know its not gonna outperform a motorola lol
@@baileymoto i've bought two or three from different sellers, they all had various QC issues (which was expected, i was basically using them as disposable radios for a few projects)
the motorola is no doudt more cystal clear. the boefang doesnt sound that bad side by side. i was shocked by a cheap radio. but as i said, with cheap you get what u pay for, my battery pack went bad after 2 months when i bought a boefang and doesnt charge anymore. over the last two years ive seen the smaller boefang radios being used by target employees and employees and a few road crews. probally being used by alot of businesses.
Yeah, I've seen a lot of business get away from buying actual business band brands like Motorola. I, too, have been seeing a lot of baofeng and similar Chinese made radios everywhere. I cringe not because of the brand but because they opt into an unknown product.
