These videos on this series of snares has really been helpful deciding between this and the aluminum Starphonic, so a HUGE THANK YOU GUYS! Your videos are also much more enjoyable than other drum shops because you have at least one player with some chops.
That's a matter of opinion. I just listened to the Metalworks snare. At a lower tuning there is a big difference but it seems like the higher the pitch the less difference I hear. Keep in mind that this one has die cast hoops. And maybe better snares? The bottom heads could be tuned different...
You should listen to the aluminum version. It sounds great too. FWIW I owned a 70s Ludwig Acro that I think sounded as good as this drum. Good luck finding a 6.5 tho... The Supralite sounds great and it's very affordable.
WhyTheHorseface The Metalworks with the diecast hoops is very close to this snare. It seems to be a Guitar Center and Musicians Criend exclusive selling @ $200. This snare is nicer overall but if you’re rough with your gear get the Metalworks. The Starphonics deserve to be well taken care of. These aren’t throw around snares.
Man! What a bad sound! I have this snare and it’s a wonderful, great sounding snare, when you can tune!! From low to high pitched, it should sound balanced... this video does not show that!
