I believe the prepper bingo card is a .22 rifle like a 10/22, a centerfire pistol like a glock 19, an AR-15 or some sort of centerfire semiauto rifle, and a 12-gauge shotty. I've got the first two checked off, and a shotty might be next ... someday ...
Alex Carter I agree. I also think a 22 revolver and some kind of gun that can reach out and touch. I'm thinking something like a 6.5 Creedmoor Ruger American. They're fairly cheap for what they are. You can find ammunition even during pandemics and other outlier events like this coronavirus thing.
Goddamn 5 TB WD Black HDDs are expensive, as can be seen by the amount of platters in there. And it's a real blast from the past seeing and hearing Danny. He'll live on through your videos.
Just this morning I tested a cutshell/waxslug out of an mossberg 835 which is overboard or I wouldn't have ran a cutshell/slug cuz I was scared over pressure issues. Since it is over bored the cut part of the shell actually acts as a sabo and the crimp keeps the slug safe from heat and wind. It was very accurate and punched through a refrigerator box stuffed with debris. The box was about 24 to 30 wide and it punched both sides. The back side showed signs of the slug fragments but was still smaller than a baseball. I am going g to run a few more and then make a video on my final product. I am hoping to get a wax slug on a pie plate at 50 yards reliably. I think I am pretty close. 10 of the slug variants I made today shot just fine at 30 yards and maintained a 4inch group ( not bad for a smoothie and some ditch craft). I am making some more today. I also shot several uncut waxers and to my surprise they were just as accurate even though the barrel is way too big for the slugs base diameter but they worked fine and held a 4in @ 27yards. The cut shells and the waxers both love to tumble. The diff is that the waxer holds together if you do good work. ( yeah, you can make a shitty waxer ) and the cutshells flip the contents of the shot cup out randomly, alot of times once it loses some load it goes of track cuz the imbalance and stuff. Waxers are definitely better than cutters. The only ditchcraft that is as cheap and effective is a combination of the two. If you don't have an over or back board barrel I cannot recommend a waxed cutter ( play at your own risk type shit). Happy new year 2021
Just got home (9:30 pm here) after a 13 hours day at work. I Sit down, turn on the computer and hey! A new video from @TAOFLEDERMAUS Just what I needed to lift my mood ^^
Right?! Just spent my day off pulling apart a Chrysler and after fighting that bitch for 7 hours and finally getting it back together I’m sore, greasy, and tired. But I get home after defeating that beast, to a nice reward!!
Always look forward to your videos. It is one of the 4 gun related channels I regularly watch, the others being OG's Dangershow, InRangeTv and Forgotten Weapons. Keep up the great videos!
Small thing I like about this channel...when they go from camera to camera they record the audio and you hear their reactions on all the cameras. Kind of makes you aware they aren't fudging the footage. Love you guys.
@@taofledermaus love the production. I was watching one of your videos from about 10 years ago and was really enjoying the Skrillex like music playing over all the shots :) You all really have this down now. Is it bad that I always worry everytime you all play with the lead plate? Always worried while you all are "exploring" the holes made, you will cut yourself and instant lead poisoning...im very rational...yep
You're asking him to go to his private top secret testing facility outside the Granola Curtain. Jeff lives in the PRK; flechette rounds are big "Nyet!"s to the commissars here...
i dont think you get how a wax slug works he explained it once its not the wax that holds everything together its only part of it, its the structure that the shot makes while its in the wax matrix that holds it together this is why flichets wont work it will just come apart
I’m just surprised they’re goin through that hood for a wax slug wow 😳. Great video Mouse Wildman Danny and Officer Greg. Y’all be safe out there and GOD BLESS your families Amen 🙏
It's almost sad. People have thousands of "good ideas" every day that last until they're tested. That one that does pass the test though, that's what keeps us coming back.
I've done a lot of experimenting on wax for black powder lube. Toilet ring wax is really gooey but it is tough stuff, it doesn't go to hell in the heat it just gets stickier. Paraffin for canning is nice and clean and dries hard but is brittle. If you really want a tough wax, melt down some long lasting survival candles. That stuff will hold together for a wax slug I bet.
The biggest improvement to those is using a shell cutter to just cut out the crimp so the wax slugs can't plunk out of the shell if racked into a pump action. (which can create a dangerous situation)
@Brian Landers seems like given the examples I've seen here and elsewhere it would go just fine at 7 yards. Unless they are wearing armor. But there are always bigger fish. But I could also see doing it wrong and having it break up st the muzzle. A box of 5 slugs or buckshot is pretty cheap.
Playing at your local theater is...THE WAX SLUG..... O'no not that !.....PS those hard drives have some mighty strong Magnets in them.....Thin you'allllll....Carry on...!
Great video and projectile testing, thank you, Jeff & Danny! P.S. Be careful about shooting your wad too much, it could end up costing you for years and years!
Their back! I have missed the wax slugs. I actually wouldn't mind seeing a revisit of the wax slugs on modern targets and with the chronos camera. I don't remember if you already did this or not or I just missed it but if not then I would love to see it.
Bees wax is what I use. Doesn't shatter and sticks better to the wad. I'm now looking at using cast bullet lube. The White label lubes X-lox 2500. Very sticky and not likely to shatter, a lot like bees wax. And cheap.
I want there to be commercially produced wax slugs. They have their uses. Do a lot of damage on the target and are somewhat accurate, but splatter after the first impact, reducing over penetration.
A suggestion for the next wax slug test, use the wax from the top of several Maker's Mark Bourbon bottles. Like you said melt wax add shot from shotgun shells, pour, let cool, and shoot.
Still blows my mind what that camera does, especially for the low cost of it. And Danny is a surgeon with that mass accelerator. Though Breanna is some pretty solid competition for him. Great video. Shame the slugs didn't work too well, but cool to watch regardless.
What about making a wax slug in a Diablo shaped casting? Maybe lose some weight because of size restrictions but proven design. Love all your videos! I learn so much
I hate this kind censorship, guns aren't evil. It's like watching porn without sex or showing genitals/breasts, or eating a hamburger with nothing but the bread (not even sesame seeds).
OK I got my Crosman red-skirted non-lead 16.7gr pellets, they're called "Red Flight" these days, and are product number LF22167. I tried pulling one of the red skirts off and this can be done with the fingers - it reveals a little "tail" on the metal part of the pellet which should actually make it fly a bit better than if it didn't have one. Interesting! I can only get green ramset blanks so far, but will keep looking around for brown or grey ones.
I thought about doing this about a year ago with the c-lbc wad. I really wish we could buy those black wads that were in demo ranch's vid years ago. Black cylinder wads with the top that screws off so you can fill it with whatever you want
From the thumbnail it looks like the placement of the birdshot probably upsets the balance. Not nose heavy, but not tail heavy enough to do a flip in flight. I know each slug was different, but my hunch is a balance issue.
Would melting a plastic welding stick and mixing the shot in be better? Maybe filling a metal mold to ensure even melting and distribution of the plastic would work. Or maybe I’m just blowing smoke?
Solution to wax slugs - first, crayon wax is brittle so it's the last kind of wax you want to use. Another issue is that pellets or dust shot is being used to give it weight, which is good, except that they do nothing to preserve structural integrity and if anything, weaken it. Instead, I would suggest taking an approach similar to rebar reinforced cement or pykrete in that some sort of binder needs to be mixed with the wax - say a small, plastic mesh or fibers of some sort to help bind the whole thing together. I'm thinking maybe braided fishing line with split shot attached to it so you have both weight and a binding/reinforcing agent.
Crayon wax has worked perfectly. Any wax barely holds it together. If there are any voids (where the shot doesn't stack perfectly, it is a breaking point and also throws off the balance- which seems to be the issue with these.
My guess on the irregular flight bob could be from unbalanced loads. Too much weight to one side or the other. And the ones turning to mist likely have an airpocket
I missed this one, making me late to the game. I think that shot cup wad combination has some promise using the longest shot cup that can be roll crimped in the shell, and enough filler wads are put in the base of the shot cup to limit the shot weight to one ounce or less. I would work up loads starting at 900 fps and increase the velocity until I found an exceptionally accurate load or the velocity the slug came at. I would also use larger shot. #2 shot to #4 Buck, depending on the location of its expected use. Shooting at an intruder inside the ho,e heavier shot at slower speeds would be much kinder to unprotected ears.
Those of you that say "just make a slug", or "just do a cut shell" are missing the point. The fun of wax slug is in the explosive impact they have. The terminal ballistics. I have numerous slug molds, but still often make "Waxers" 'cause they're fun!! I'm betting that with the info gained from this test, VettePilot Ballistics could make an improved version. Maybe they will. They put some nice effort into this one. MORE WAXERS JEFF!!
The wide range of results must be due to the difference in the distribution of pellets in the wax. Sometimes they might be more on one side, this would destroy accuracy if it has a spin. Smooth bore in this case may not always be as accurate but would be more consistent.
