So… Steve from ‪@ShenRC‬ has been very patiently waiting for this video for a while! To be honest it was long overdue getting the Tamiya Hotshot 2 out for a drive. It did well and for the first run on the new track without the big jump it was a lot of fun! Enjoy!!! I threw all the extra action shots in at the end for you Steve!

The hotshot family of buggies are very iconic and it’s good seeing the 4wd actually working on your track👍 the one criticism I’ve always had from day one with this range of buggies is the noisy gearboxes!

I love the looks of them and it drive really well out there. I really enjoyed sliding it around the corners and it seemed to like it as well! they are not the quietest things out there for sure, lots of gear whine from them. All of them from this era had something weird or wonky with them in general, there was a lot of trial and error engineering going on in the mid 80s but they stood the test of time! 40 years later and we are still buying and playing with them!!

I love the looks f the HS2, so mean and aggressive looking! It was a grreat time sliding it around the corners on the track and the long front corner is much nicer. It makes the track flow a lot better and easier to see everything going on out there. Plus sliding the car around that long corner is just a smile maker!

I am glad it gave you a pleasant change of pace! The HS2 ran great and the new track layout I like a lot. To be able to power slide the whole front corner is a real hoot! I will be getting a couple of small moveable jumps built I can have out there for the buggies and trucks but take off for the rally cars or delicate ones! Hey Addam! As someone who keeps the bulk of his models immaculate, that before and after footage made me cringe! Full of admiration at a fresh and shiny new build Tamiya legend..... and then awash with the anxiety of all that dust and potential scratches of the after footage!!! 😬 On the flip side, it was great seeing it in action, and seeing the freshly revised track...... which looked much faster without the jump!! As I was watching I was trying to comprehend the large amount of editing and work that must go into something like this, especially with multiple camera angles! I don't think many people realise the amount of effort that goes into producing something of this quality. But boy the end result is well worth it! Great content man, good luck with the strip down and clean up mate! 👍 👍 👍

LOL, sorry for the trauma! LOL! Thankfully it was all dust and fairly easy to clean up. A quick blow off and some time with some microfiber towels and it is all shiny and clean again! No real scratches on the body to speak of so all is well! The new layout flows a lot better and it was so much fun power sliding that big front corner! I have plans for moveable jumps and some moveable rally barriers as well coming up soon. I have to get out and get all the supplies and get them built. I am glad you enjoyed the video and can appreciate the time spent on the editing! It does take some time to do but it turns out well in the end so it is worth it. Plus I do go back and watch them occasionally so I enjoy it too!! Take care and have a great rest of your week!!

Thanks Jeremey, it was a blast to run and I really loved sliding it around the bog corner now! I am glad you enjoyed the footage and now the weather has turned from evil hot to normal hot I hope to get out there a little more often! LOL! Love those sweepy corners. Shot series has been a strange critter to me. Almost bought a Super Shot years ago but wound up with a Turbo Optima Mid SE. Super nice runner. Almost boring cause you couldn't spin it out. But the radio had range issues. I suspected all the graphite. Worst was the 3 step speed control. When the battery was low the servos froze. Then I had to run 15 mph to catch it before it blasted the curb again. Almost never could. Then I sprayed the motor with motor spray and watched all the polycarbonate gear & belt covers disintegrate into chalk. Big lesson. And a MAJOR teardown. Then sold it. 4x4 Tamyias like Shots may be a future project. The Squash van looks fun. But I just got my Brat & Frog dressed and running. So I bought a vintage Super Champ basket case. With a box and book. When it comes I'm going to be buzzing over its classic charm. The SRB frame is a Jewell for its VW authenticity. I'm charged up to have one again. You do have a great place for all those R/Cs. That little astro turf patch is mint.

Yeah the big front corner is great now without the huge jump there, it is all smiles when I can power slide the whole thing! The HS family is pretty unique and I love the aggressive look they have plus there were 3 variations in just a few years which is not normal for them. I had to giggle a little with your story as many of us learned the same hard lessons back then! The stuck mechanical speed controller is something I think we all had to do at some point back then, It was better when the batteries were shot and that was the reason why, it was when a big piece of grit got lodged in there with fresh batteries that made it really interesting!!! It was like trying to grab up an angry little animal! You did get a far superior buggy with the Mid though, it can run alps around the HS buggies, especially on a rough track. I enjoy my little track and the inner turf area makes it interesting to drive as it is two very different grip levels for most of the cars and trucks so it takes a bit of learning to drive it well. (I have yet to master it as you can tell LOL!)

Thanks Paul, it ran really well! The track is a lot faster and more relaxing to drive now. The big oval lugged tires do grip very well on the carpet and it was funny, on one lap it grip and turn on a dime and the next it would drift a little wide and then the next it would traction roll on me! It was a blast though!

I m glad you enjoyed it Pete! It is nicer to see everything out there without the jump blocking part of the view. Makes it so much nicer to drive too as I don't have to guess where the car is on part of the inside corner! LOL! I will get a few small (I mean it this time!) jumps put in that I can move around from place to place. I need to go get the large vinyl sheets to build them out of. I want them to be completely rot proof!

I am glad you enjoyed it Ryan. It drove really well and looked great out sliding around the track. Having the track is great but a lot of work to put in and requires regular maintenance. If you are like me though and don't have a local track or anywhere great to run them then it is great to have your own in the backyard. You can get the kids out there too driving around where it is safe and not in the road out front!

Thanks Martin and I am glad because I don't want to put it back LOL! The big corner is a lot of fun now and if I hit it right I can power slide the whole thing which makes me smile a lot! It is also easier to see everything both in person and on camera. I will be getting a couple of small moveable jumps built I can have out there for the buggies and trucks but take off for the rally cars or delicate ones!

Yes, sliding around the big turn did make me smile an awful lot!!! LOL It also will allow for the rally cars to get out there and once I get the small jumps built I can rearrange it from time to time in order to change it up.

Awesome thanks for running it! It ran good and thrashed the dirt like a beauty! Now that the big jump is gone you should make some small whippy does on one of the side straights like 5 small ones spaced apart so the RCs go up and down up and down.. I don't know what they are called LOL!! but it would be cool!

You are very welcome Steve, it was definitely about time for it! I like the track without the big jump as it flows much better and I can get the rally cars out there on it. I plan on adding a few track width, moveable jumps so I can place them in various locations to make it more interesting. Some whoops would be fun but I want to make sure the rally cars can still run out there without tearing up the bodies. I have plans to make easy "pinch points' out there for the rally cars so they have to swerve and miss barriers also!

It is a great looking buggy, I love the original but the black makes this one look a little meaner and more aggressive! It was a blast driving it on the the new track layout. Power sliding that long front corner as a real smile maker!

LOL, yeah the bonehead was a poke at Tamiya for being lazy and releasing two with the same basic livery to them when Jun's cars are all very different. Also a poke at myself for buying one when I said I was not but I got this idea in my head and had to do it! The real HS2 is a great looking buggy and it was a fun one to drive as well! It was a real blast to power slide it all the way around the front corner for sure!

Nice running video there and the track looks in good shape as well. Shame in a way that the jump is gone, but you can have some fun drifting the cars around the corner! As you say you could always get something temporary for when you feel like grabbing some air!

Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed it. The jump will be missed but it was just too big and I would like to be able to set the track up for the rally cars as well. They do not like the big jump at all! I have plans to make it very modular to both make it more interesting to drive on and suit more types of cars out there. I had a lot of footage so i kept the clean bits up front and later you got all the banging and flipping over to prove I am still a fairly awful driver but I don't care! LOL! Wow that handled the track a lot better than I thought it would. Hotshot was my first 4wd back in the day and 3rd car after the grasshopper and frog. Lol Tracks looking good Bud 👍

It did well out there. It could use a little more turning out of the front end but a quick blip of the brakes usually got it around the tight corners pretty well. it definitely turned much harder on the carpeted section!!The track flows much better now with the big jump out of there. I have plans to make it a bit more exciting in the future and adding in the moveable jumps in there as well as some stuff for the rally cars too!

Thanks Al!! I will miss the jump some but I have plans to make the track very modular for both the buggies and trucks and for the rally cars as well. I need to go to Lowes and get a bunch of supplies but it should turn out pretty sweet in the end and will be fun to rearrange it from time to time. I have a MK1 hotshot. Still drive it (CAREFULLY) as it’s very cool. Also have a Hotshot 2. Are they fast, durable, reliable? Not really but they are still the coolest looking Tamiyas imo. Great video mate.

That is super cool you have an OG one! Yes, be very gentle with it! I do wish they had beefed up the suspension arms on the re-re kits, it would not take too much more plastic to firm them up and make them more durable but being new and probably slightly better plastics than the originals then it should hold up. I do love the looks of HS family of cars, very mean and aggressive looking. I am glad you enjoyed the video Matt!

LOL! Yes, it does kind of look like a big smiley face now! The HS2 is a great looking buggy and it was a blast out there with it! The drivetrain is noisy but after you start sliding it around out the the smile makes you ignore the gear noise! LOL!

I will get some smaller ones make i can move around to change it up from time to time and hopefully get some cool action shots depending on what I am running. I will also be able to set it up for the rally cars as well to do more than round and round track racing.

Hi guys! It was a blast on the new layout and I will get the moveable ramps built soon and also get some rally obstacles built as well so can completely change it up with very little effort. Thankfully the run just got it rather dusty so it did not take too long for it to get cleaned back up to shelf status! LOL! I hope the both of you are doing well and having a good week. I got sidelined for a few days with a bad gout flare up so I did as little as possible! Feeling better now after the meds kicked in and getting rid of it. Not a big deal just makes it hard to walk and sleep well.

@@outbackrcaustralia4895 This is the first time I have gotten a strong flare up and boy, let me tell you, it makes you take a break! It feels like you broke toe so walking around is very painful. Thankfully I am back to about 80-90% better, still a little pain but can walk around no problem. I don't recommend you guys try it out, I give it a very solid 0 out of five stars review!! Would not recommend! LOL!!! Take care and have a great weekend!

The track looks great. Wow, that car was great on the track. The tires and set up seem to be perfect. I think that car is one you can take and practice with just to improve your timing and the tires will do a job on the few remains weeds. The car wasn't bad after the run just a little dusty. Thee are some very nice light weight jumps out there. One RU-vidr uses one from KC RC and there are probably many more. Skateboard jumps aren't bad. You find them at garage sales and thrift stores. I liked the ground level and slow motion camera shots.

Thanks! I like it without the giant jump and it is a lot of fun power sliding through the big turn! I love the oval block tires on there, they work really well in almost all terrain. I plan on making a few track wide small jumps out of some weather proof materials so I can leave them out there and not worry about them rotting away. I had put up a few pics as a community post last week of me tearing it out. I wish YT did a better job of showing those to relevant people. I like it without the jump but do need to get some small ones built I can move from place to place around the track to change it up from time to time. LOL, I will be boxing it up this morning and getting it shipped out sometime today. I got sidelined by a bad gout flare up and spent a lot of the day yesterday on the couch in a ton of pain. I will get it out to you though, I have a dr appointment today so I will have to go out anyway.

The track is looking much better now! Much better 'filming' angles with the RC Elf Straight (I am assuming that is what you are calling it). You can really get into a rhythm lap after lap. Once you have some more data, I'd be curious to know how much lap time the RC Elf Mountain costed. I like the idea of having portable jumps. You can make it a single, double or tabletop or vary the jump shape. You could even conceivably have some rolls of carpet to cover all the gravel for road car action, then roll it up, add some jumps and you can do buggy/rally racing.

Thanks! It was a lot of fun sliding it around the big corner! How about the RC Elf candy-cane-corner?? I like that... It was nice to be able to keep the speed up on every lap and power sliding that big corner just made me smile a lot! I am planning on making a couple jumps out of some 1/2 pvc sheeting and covering them in the turf so they will be rot proof and can be left out there without damage. Also I can reposition them around them to change it up from time to time. I am looking forward to getting some of the rally cars out there and have an idea to make the track fitting for them and also be able to change those obstacles around for different variations over time too. Lots of plans and I just have to make them happen when I get time!

The clean then dirty car was the best thing and the worst thing at the same time. It made me smile. I love the new lay out. That final turn is so fast now and the hotshot 2 just loved it.

Thankfully the car was basically just dusty and cleaned up pretty easily and quickly. When they come up wet and muddy is when it takes forever and requires a lot of tear down to get them cleaned up back for display! Taking the big ump out was a good idea and you can see everything much better and if you hit it just right I can drift the big corner under full power and that puts a big smile on my face! I will be getting a couple of small moveable jumps built I can have out there for the buggies and trucks but take off for the rally cars or delicate ones!

Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed it! Yes, the gear noise from all of the HS cars is rather loud. But the design is from 40 years ago so not quite as optimized as the new kits are. they rarely change things for a re-release unless it was a major issue so for the foreseeable future load Hotshots are just going to normal! LOL!

Ah, you removed the jump, that must have been quite a bit of work, eh? The track flows a lot better now, only thing is three turns can be taken on power, where the carpeted turn needs to be taken more carefully... It's a cool development, and fun to see the times in "normal" and "reverse" are similar! And it's a cool buggy, too!

Yes, I have been wanting to remove it for a while now and it is more fun to rip around it a bit faster! I will be building some weather proof small jumps I can move around the track from time to time to change it up. Plus I can run the rally cars out there now. They did not like the big jump at all! The carpeted section makes it interesting and you have to drive it a lot different which can really make it fun/frustrating 😂 Without the big jump it is much easier to run in both directions so that will probably be more common in the future! The HS2 did well out there and was a fun one to make the first laps on the new layout!

The track flows much better and I am going to be able to run the rally cars around it now. I have plans to make it very modular and work with various setups depending on the cars running and mood I am in!! Power sliding the HS around the big front corner was a ton of fun, huge smiles while doing it!

I think you Should add at least one jump Maybe on the left side, just as you come out of the turn, Maybe something three or four inches tall, just enough to get some air under you. Maybe some of the prefab rubber speed bumps. Just my two cents.🙂

I do plan on making a couple track wide jumps pretty much like what you described. Maybe 4-6 inches tall and i plan on covering them with the turf carpet. I need to go get the HD vinyl sheeting to do it. I want to make sure that there are completely rot proof! So we are on the same page. I want to make them moveable around various sections to change it up from time to time. Also to be able to remove them for the rally cars or ones I want to be gentle on.

LOL! Thanks Bob, it was a treat to drive and so much fun sliding around the corners! I am going to do moveable ramps as I want to be able to set it up for the rally cars as well. I have plans for both rot proof ramps and some moveable rally barriers as well for it. It should be pretty cool to change it up from time to time!

It was built too big and unless I stood on the other end of the track it blocked my view of some part of the track and it also blocked partial view for the camera too. Now it is easy to see everything and I will be getting a couple of small moveable jumps built I can have out there for the buggies and trucks but take off for the rally cars or delicate ones!

Thanks Paul! Glad you liked it! I always build them with full bearings. Even if I don't plan on running it I know at some point it will be someone else's and they probably will so bearings are a must. I did put in the sport tuned motor in this one. I tend to use that or the torque tuned in a lot of them. I have a pile of brand new stock motors here if you ever need one or five of them! LOL!

Yeah, took out the tiny jump! LOL! It was a good idea to put in jump but I went a little overboard with it and made it a mountain! It is a lot more fun now and I really love being able to power slide the whole large corner if I am able to hit it right. I will be getting a couple of small moveable jumps built I can have out there for the buggies and trucks but take off for the rally cars or delicate ones! I plan on making them out of weatherproof/waterproof materials so they will not rot sitting out there.

It was great fun out on the track sliding it around the corners! I know you guys have been fairly cool and rainy this season. Not great driving weather, takes a lot of fun out of it when you know you are going to spend forever cleaning muddy yuck off of everything!!
