Tamiya TT02 Speed Challenge Run 8: New 10T Motor & 40mph Target

This is my 8th attempt at a top speed test for the Fil ‪@poorboysrc‬ Tamiya TT01 / TT02 Speed Challenge 2023. There are 2 classes in this competition, one for brushless 2 & 3S LiPo cars and the one I'm entering, brushed motors and 6/7 cell NiMh batteries. My main focus now isn't winning but to beat that pesky Craig ‪@theoagrc‬ , he is now topping 30mph so I hope this run keeps me ahead of my Midlands co-competitor!
In this video I run my new LRP V10 Spec.6, 10x2T brushed motor and lowered gearing of 22/64, and try it on a 6 cell 7.2v and 7 cell, 8.4v batteries. Having hit 36mph on my last run, my new target is 40mph, can I get to this elusive barrier?

Those were such beautiful runs, Mark, I am convinced that diffuser made a huge difference! Your car has always been stable, but this was way more. Great job breaking the speed barrier, my friend!

Haha, that's great to hear, Mads, we made you laugh! I think I went a bit crazy that day, it's all for the camera, I tell you! Honestly, you are right, fun is the number one objective, you know me too well now my friend. I can tell the diffuser worked and the car was even more stable, just need to get past the terrible torque steer as I accelerate. Then she is fine! Thanks again, mate, cheers!

Well another great episode of Last of the Summer RC 🤣 Really good fun guys and wow what a result! I think that you can be justifiably smug with that one. Hey you know I could say that you were too chicken 🐔 to get into the brushless class! You've got brushless motors and lipos you big girls blouse! Anyway I think that Fil is putting me in the brushed class whether I like it or not and so far I'm on about 25mph 😞 I'm not sure whether to spend some money or just give up now. Hi Pete, yeah we are getting worse here, I blame the hot weather, it's gone to our heads! Oh yeah, you got that right, I definitely chickened out of the brushless brigade, no way am I running a TT02 at anything near 50 or 60mph! TBF I've only got 13.5T brushless and that won't cut it. Anyway, sorry about the clucking (ooh err!!) but it just came out, no offence intended! The guys said to keep it in as it was funny, I really hoped you would take it the right way! Just pissing about as usual. I don't think you should spend any more money either! 😅Cheers my friend, and a great weekend to you. 🤗👊👍

The hump pack gave it the juice Mark! 40MPH very good! she does sound like she's winding out I hope with the new gearing you use she goes even faster!! Like the elastic band clip holder trick for the battery strap so when you take it off you can't lose it!

You got that right, Steve, after a couple of cycles it's delivering more, just as we thought! Changing the connectors might have heled a little, too. Oh yeah, I always use something to hold those pesky R clips after losing so many in the past!

Hey Mark, Rob and Schubert! 🐿️ OMG you hit the 40mph!! 🥇 🏆 Great run lads, and the level of excitement was clearly obvious, glad you didn't rub poor Craigs face in it too much! 🤣 That rear diffuser was quality, she certainly looked very stable! It's obviously got more to give if you were only on a 22T stock pinion.... I reckon it's possible to clear 45mph! Yep, diffuser definitely helped, straight as an arrow once it's settled, only goes off-line due to torque steer. Looking forward to your next try, you gotta pass me now! It's quite common on conversations with both you, and uncle bob for some reason?!? 🤔 Please don't hold back in front of the camera mate, the level of humour between you two is very entertaining! We have missed runs over the last 2 weeks as I've been choka with work, and we had the rc football match to arrange /play and edit (which took sooo much time), and then the rc fair the following week. But, the TT02 is locked and loaded with a scary looking 60c 3s ready for Wednesday morning I don't think we will be able to do Mr Wylie..... but we are coming for both Rob and Fil!! 🤣 I'm a little concerned about handing over the controls to Taylor, Moo moo his wife is a far better driver so may have to reach out for some girl power! 🤣 👍 👍 👍

You guys were having a good old time out there! Was this an after the pub run? LOL!!! Congrats on getting out of the 30s! I just watched Craigs latest and he completely smoked his ESC, extra crispy, and is still chasing. I think once he gets some gearing in there and an esc with the smoke still in it he may be right there with you or maybe even passing you so don't stop now!

Congratulations on the 40mph target. Along with the motor upgrade and the 8.4v NiMh, I would like to think that reducing the resistance by re-soldering the connector and using a deans connector, has permitted reliability of the power delivery from the energy source 😊😊. From my days as an electrical engineer, CSA of the cabling and the connectivity was always a factor, especially when trying to delivery high currents. Well done Mark! Try a run with a warm battery ( directly after charging ) NIMH performs better when its warm > higher voltage👍

Thanks so much, Hubertus! You can tell how pleased I was! But yes, I could feel that the car was more stable at the higher speed and I'm glad I fitted it. Of course I would welcome any tips you could give! Take care and wishing you a great weekend, too!

@@MarkBryanRC This all might be a bit radical, but to squeeze out every tenth of mph: Close up the underside right up to the diffuser. This should prevent air pressure underneath the bodyshell, and improve aerodynamics. Because there's still some air coming in from the wheel openings, open up the rear of the bodyshell (cut out a portion of the rear bumper). I don't know if this is against the rules, but remove the center and front driveshafts for less friction loss. It'll become unstable so put some hard compound tires at the front, hard front shock springs and/or a stabiliser at the front. You're the first one i see ever that made a rear diffuser! I made one for my HPI a while ago but that was for stabllity only (short and less obtuse angle).

Many, many thanks for the tips, Hubertus! I totally understand the logic of what you are saying! I'll see what I can come up with, it might be difficult to fit an undertray to close up the underside as I'm struggling with ground clearance as it is as the lower arms are horizontal already! Wish me luck, I'm just going out with the highest gearing I've got, 7 teeth more on the pinion!!!! 🙏🤞👍
