Tamiya Twin Terror with Dual Motors and Dual Servos! Here is the renowned, original and classic 1999 Monster Truck that spawned a whole line of Tamiya WR-01 and WT-01 models for almost 20 years! It's finally time to get started on the Tamiya WR-01 upgrade and transformation project for this year ... so here is a quick presentation and the last run of an old and dirty Tamiya Wild Dagger (Tamiya 58231) ... before it is turned into something else.

----------------------
This video series is part of my effort of trying to get all my RC cars up and running this year. One car at a time. Slowly. I hope I will make it.
Be aware that this is not a true restoration of a vintage model. More of a runner-project with a complete clean-up, transformation, upgrade and modernization. Some will like the final result, some will not. I hope I will.
This is an original 1999 Tamiya Wild Dagger I purchased for little money several years ago. It was dirty and well-used but I never got around to a clean-up and restoration, and just used it as it came, as a little extra runner for our small allotment hut garden back in the City: • Tamiya WR-01 Wild Dagg...
I have had several parts (towers, shocks, motors, ESC, pinions etc.) ready for a complete clean-up and upgrade project for several years now, but last year my son and me was busy running and building Tamiya WT-01's so we didn't really need another WR-01 or WT-01 to keep us more busy.
I never really liked the paint job on this one. If it had come with a box-art paint job (which I like) in good condition, I might have settled with a disassembly/assembly and clean-up, keeping it stock and original. But since I have another WR-01 non-Wild Dagger-body and decals set lying around, and since I really could need a new 4x4 Monster Truck runner, I might as well turn the entire car into something else. There is really nothing rare and special about this particular unit. All the WR-01 and WT-01 parts are still available brand new. Only thing that is rare, is a box-art or clear Wild Dagger body and complete set of decals (which this unit doesn't have). And after all, I can always go back and turn it into a Wild Dagger again, later.

Hi Mikael, that Hitec Lynx radio is in good shape, I like it. And I like WT/WR-01 - a lot of fun for youngsters, with a little bit of tuning even for us. Thank you for sharing.

MilosRCerny Černý Hi Milos! Yeah, I bet that Hitec was expensive back in the 1990s. And I think you nailed it perfectly, ‘a lot of fun for youngsters with a little bit of tuning even for us’. Perfectly said ☺️ Got a couple of WT-01’s, almost stock except fir the essentials, for when my son and me go RCing together. And then when this is done with upgrades etc I can grap it when I want a little more speed and performance

It was great to see the WR-01 fire up with the original electronics! Still fun to play with, especially with your family. But I can see that a remake is needed, and I love to see an old Tamiya re-purposed, looking forward to see what you do. Those chase shots were super smooth with the new GoPro, very nice! I hope you and your family are safe and well, as always, best wishes from your friend Mark... :)
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 4 года назад
Mark Bryan RC Yeah, it really served it’s purpose back in the city where it lived it’s life in the small allotment hut garden, old and dirty, but now ... in the big garden ... yeah, really needs to be ‘re-purposed’. Love that word, Mark. Describes it better than my entire write-up ☺️ And no point on restoring it without a proper and new Wild Dagger body (and not gonna go that way with prices on these nowadays). And all parts are still available. So better to put it to good new use. Hope the plastic isn’t too brittle 🙂 I hope you and your family is safe too. Is your kids at home? I hope so. Would be hard to be isolated from them. Best wishes to you, my friend.
@NordicRC

Mark Bryan RC Uhh yeah, and easy enough to run together with the Wild Dagger. But I have just tried a fast buggy. Impossible, unless it’s 10% throttle. Dont know how you do it with your rally cars etc.
@MarkBryanRC
@MarkBryanRC 4 года назад
@@NordicRC Yeah mate, my kids are home, so we are locked in together until I go to work! Good to have them safe though. And running with my rally cars? Most is done on low throttle with a few short sprints as we apply full throttle - no long sprinting sessions at my age! :)

Great video Mikael. I never really liked the Tamiya "monster truck" style when I first got into RC. But watching your videos over the years influenced my change of opinion, and as you know, I am a big fan of them now. I look forward to watching the refurbishment and transformation of your Wild Dagger. My Dagger is now my WR-01 Bigfoot. It has two Tamiya Torque Tuned Mabuchi 540 Motors and the rear diff is locked for a bit of crawling if needed. It works very well and a great RC to run. I loved the end of this video Mikael. I'm really missing my grandchildren in these difficult times. I wish you and your family a safe and healthy week, and I wish your wife a Happy Mothers day 😊👍👍

Thank you, Derek. Yeah, I am a big fan too. Would love a Clod and a Blackfoot too ☺️ Never ending as you know ... I remember your WR-01 very well. Didn’t it start as a Double Blaze? (Well, I know, identical to the Wild Dagger except for the body). I can imagine it is hard for you Grand parents. I am thinking of all my son’s Grand parents too ... so sad. It’s a long time. But better have Grand parents when all this is over than risking it all. Be brave, Derek. Wish you all the best.

@@NordicRC I never knew what my Bigfoot used to be when I got it, but when I was working on it recently I found this on the rear bumper. I'd never noticed before because it blends in because it's black writing. postimg.cc/Wtd16LmT My red double Blaze body came on a WT-01 chassis, but I do have a brand new unused original Double Blaze complete with the twin engine mechanical controller which you have in your Dagger. I bought it two years ago and it's one of those RC's that ends up in a cupboard never to be seen again. postimg.cc/gallery/32v89pbh6/ I have the chrome wheels and tyres but they're not in the photo's. I did try selling it last year but no luck. I saw this today and if you're interested I can bid for you. Let me know 👍 www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tamiya-Mad-Fighter-rc-buggy-with-servo-receiver-electronic-speed-controller/153870656095?hash=item23d367e25f:g:MDQAAOSwDwNec5wl Yes, self isolation is hard but, needs to be done to keep everyone safe for when it's eventually over. I am grateful for the internet so we can still see each other online. No hugs but better than nothing 😊👍
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 4 года назад
Uhh, wild that you have an extra unused Double Blaze! Amazing. And the other ones as well ... Well, apart from wheel colors and the body, I dont think there is any possible way to distinguish between a Wild Dagger, Twin Detonator, Double Blaze or Dual Hunter. I presume it’s a sticker on your bumper? Never seen any other WT/WR-01 bumper with writings on it. But the sticker on your bumper certainly tells it was born as a Wild Dagger, as from what I can see (the page where it was uploaded to doesn’t allow me to zoom in) my guess is that it’s one of the production stickers from the decal sheet, isn’t it? I’ve seen people use it before on chassis parts. Uhh, tempting with the Mad Fighter. But I need to go through some other projects first. When I am finished or almost finished I will definitely go looking for a Mad Fighter and could need some help again ☺️ We are lucky we both got a woman beside us to give us some hugs while we are missing others ☺️

But now is the time 🙂 Will be nice finally opening the bags of goodies and put them to good use now. We are good so far here. Another bonus of having moved outside the city. Easier to be isolated here. And this weekend the spring kicked in. So far so good. But too sad with all the news of people suffering. I really hope you and your family are good too, Chris. The third Tamiya I brought, in a box in the loft and I bet it will still run. Shame they stopped making this chassis a long time ago but not hard to make a 2WD one into a 4WD.
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 4 года назад
Bas Boy RC I also still remember your videos with the WR-01 Monster Beetle. That was awesome. Yeah, it’s such a great durable and easy-to-work-on-chassis. Yeah, the last one came in 2007 ... but then it all stopped. Such a shame. Luckily all the WT-01 parts are still available, so still cheap and easy to repair (never broke one though) and yeah, as you say, so easy to convert a WT-01 into a WR-02.
@BasBoyRC
@BasBoyRC 4 года назад
@@NordicRC That beetle became the blue ranger version using the Blackfoot 3 body with new brushless motor. It might be too powerful so a 4wd conversion would be good, using a Hobbywing 0860 and 2 18t brushed motors. I never got to run it last year because I did not have the time. I'm hoping the ground dries up soon here to get out with something.
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 4 года назад
Bas Boy RC Ahh, I see. Would love to see it run before you change it again. Are you doing videos on the Facebook group? I am so seldom on Facebook though ...
@BasBoyRC
@BasBoyRC 4 года назад
@@NordicRC I can put small videos on Facebook but they have to be small and not had time to try. I'm still going to do a bit of filming for only myself until another format comes up. But no way I will go back to RU-vid to do 4 times the work for a third of the views I was getting in the end. It was like the more subs I got the less I was watched. They do not like pushing channels that do not have ads and it was ads that caused all this aggro in the first place for them.
@PeteWylieRC
@PeteWylieRC 4 года назад
Hi Mikael. Great stuff, what an interesting truck. Looks like it runs pretty well but some better shocks and a bit more speed wouldn't hurt. I'm intrigued by the twin motor setup. I'm guessing that there must be a modern ESC that can cope with 2 motors? Anyway looks like some nice family fun. Hope all is well with you guys. Having your own bit of land to RC on will be even more useful in the weeks to come. Not sure how it is there but lockdowns coming here soon I think. Going to the park for RC is probably not seen as essential. Might have a look at my usual RC place tomorrow as it's generally possible to stay well away from others. Crazy and worrying times but luckily we have this no risk platform to be sociable. Take care mate :-)
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 4 года назад
Hi Pete!! Thanks, mate. Yeah, I do not like the paint job on this one, but it deserves a second chance with another body. Yeah, tons of torque on this one. Low gear ratio and dual motors. There are lots of options for ECS’s for Dual motors. Tamiya, Traxxas etc but I went with a Hobbywing. Been lying in it’s box for a couple of years now waiting for this project 🙂 And yeah, it’s really great with the lawn and forest - but I do miss the asphalt and the dirt. Well, things I can live with. And yeah, I think it’s safe to enter out in the nature as long as it is not crowded and one keeps great distances and doesn’t use the seats, benches etc. Or so I have been told. And yes, now all the social media really makes a lot of sense 🙂 Best to you Pete. Stay safe. Better miss an RC run than take risks.
