Panic knitting here. Haha. Two days before Christmas. Just a hat for my youngest because his siblings have something hand knit to open and I don’t want him to feel left out. It’s been so nice catching up on your videos this morning. Always a pleasure to spend time with you. ❤ 18:45

If what you’re knitting is to small as a sock turn it into a pair of mittens or gloves and knit socks a bit bigger. That pattern is so cute I wish I could knit. My stitches are too tight.

Lisa, I am so glad you were not injured with the fall down the steps, in particular, your hands. It is a shame people don't know how to stay busy while waiting or have the desire. I would have been well armed, also whilst waiting during jury duty. I have a fear of running out of things to do. Your socks are so adorable. That brown is perfect and so beautiful. When you showed the Charming Color Work Sock book in the fall I purchased it and promptly made the bat socks. They are pretty darn cute. The Sophie shawl seems the perfect project for the cashmere. The black fleece you bought is really pretty. Natural colored fleeces are my favorite. Although, I like color, I think I like spinning the natural because it makes me feel more connected to the sheep. Sounds funny, maybe. Thanks for a great video.

Check out the grampa cardigan by Andrea Mowry! I think that was the name of the pattern. I’m going to spin some natural brown Shetland for it.

hi Lisa, I am so so happy you liked my suggestion !!! A new word for me : bandwagon LOL ! I didn´t like popular patterns but then I thought they must be good if they are so popular...like ranunculus for exple ! it reaches thousends of projects, so crasy. There is one popular hat which I highly recommend ,the pattern is so clever , you can start with any wool and needles and later check the gauge and measurements , it is genius ! : Musselburgh-by Ysolda Teague. check it out. You may also like a cardigan I have on my to do list : Mariechen by Isabell Kraemer.Peaches looks so cute in her new outfit. Wishing you and your family a very happy christmas !

I have the Musselburgh hat on my needles at the moment. Such a genius pattern. I understand why it’s so popular. I’ll check out the Isabelle Kraemer pattern you mentioned. She’s another designer who writes beautiful, clear and elegant patterns. Happy Christmas and Happy Solstice toy you and your family. 🤗

When I do a long stretch of sewn bind-off, I use arm-length pieces and spit splice as I go (not superwash, obviously). Much easier and doesn't wear out the yarn. Happy solstice to you!
@SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning 9 месяцев назад
I think I’m going to do that for the remainder. The yarn is holding up but getting a bit worn and the yarn is non superwash which spit slices great. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Lisa, so lovely to see you. Your red sweater looks so fabulous, it really is the best red. And I ooohed out loud when I saw your socks, they look so good. Your colours are absolutely perfect. I knitva lot of colourwork socks, and I have found I get the best result with magic loop and 2.75 mm needles for all the colourwork, that way I can guarantee they will be able to slide over my heel. If you want, you can switch back to 2.5 needles after the heel, if you have narrow feet. I also now always make my toes as if it is colourwork: I knit with one strand from the inside of the ball, and one strand from the outside of the ball, and knit 1 stitch with one strand, 1 stitch with the other. That way, the tension on the toes is the same as the rest of the sock, and I get a much more durable toe. Just a tip to maybe try!
@SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning 9 месяцев назад
Thanks for the tip. The pattern has you return to smaller needles and decrease after the color work. I’ll try the 2.75 next time. Many 🙏thanks!
@ailienrhijnsburger5178
@ailienrhijnsburger5178 9 месяцев назад
@SoulfulSpinning sure! As a reference, I knit non-colourwork socks on 2.25 mm, so there is a real difference. For no colourwork socks I normally use 64 stitches, colourwork socks usually have around 72 stitches. I have a pair of socks early in my colourwork socks "career" that I made with the larger amount of stitches and smaller needle, and everything I wear them I struggle to get them on or off. I recently reknit them because it bothered me so much...

I wanted to knit when I went for jury duty. I looked it up online before going and they said needles were not allowed in the court room. Glad I didn’t chance it because another person brought their knitting and the when they went through security the officers told her they would have to trash them or she can run them back to her car as long as she was back before the rest of us were checked in or be fined. So I’ve learned to take a book or my bujo.

Hi Lisa, I hope Peaches loves her new knitted jumper. Is she happy with the Welsh mountain? It's next to fur not skin so she should have few complaints! I have learnt to fashion a one ply drop spindle Welsh mountain thread as the one handed novice and knitted a simple sample. It's not for neck wear but works as a sole of feet warmer here in mild winter conditions in lowland Wales! :) Wishing you Nadolig Llawen, Happy Christmas (in Welsh)!

Peaches isn’t complaining! After washing it is noticeably softer and will be great for outerwear and the color is beautiful. We are having a very mild winter here, too. I’m wishing you and yours a very Happy Christmas 🎄!

Another lovely episode Lisa. Yes, sewn bind off is laborious, but the result is worth it. When you were waiting to be called for jury duty, no one was knitting because it’s usually not allowed in the courtroom. During my service they wouldn’t even let me in with yarn, but a nice court clerk rescued it and took it back to the waiting room - they were going to throw it away 😢. Happy Holidays to you,

Hi Lisa, hope you’re doing well in this New Year, when I “wait” for a new episode, I’m watching the ones from the archives… archeological digs. One caution on Lantern Moon Ebony needles, 3 of them broke on me, in a funny way, on diagonal. Luckily Lantern Moon stands behind their product and they will replace my loses. I really love to use them, they are so good in hands. After knitting nearly 50 years I only broke 1 plastic and 1 bamboo needle. So breaking 3 LM Ebony within a month is weird.

I had a similar incident a few months ago where I fell forward out of the main part of my home down a couple steps into my family room. The same thoughts went through my head and I, also, was an injured. I’m glad you’re alright! Recently I was diagnosed with beginning osteoporosis in my spine so now I really have to be careful. No more skiing for me. I think your colorwork socks are fantastic. My favorite length for a DPN is 7” and those are so hard to find.

Now I’m just finishing up my own current projects so I am free to start something new after Christmas! I want to knit something super wooly for the coming dead of winter months ahead. That explains it! I imagine knitting during a trial could be considered a distraction, but perhaps because I was on standby and didn’t get picked they let it slide? Anyhoo, I feel like I was very lucky not to have my project taken away!
