Great review! Finally, a review of Chinese cars in excellent english!! Not some automated robot-voice or flight announcement english level. Keep going!
Thanks for all the comments and i would like to say something regarding the quality of Chinese cars. BYD, Geely and the likes of Greatwall Motors only started making cars some 15 years ago. At the beginning they were simply copying designs and due to the lack of quality parts and machinery the end products were not great. People preferred imported cars or cars made by a factory owned by a foreign brand. How things have changed over the last 5 years, especially over electric cars, Chinese brands started to overtake their foreign counterparts in sales. The likes of BYD, Wuling and Geely were miles ahead in terms of sales and newcomers like Nio, Xpeng, HiPhi etc have all made their stand. People now recognises their own brand and for the same amount of money you may get twice the car. In terms of off roading capacity and durability, let me just tell you one fact. The way from Sichuan to Tibet is thousands of Kilometers of treacherous some times dangerous roads. It has improved over the years but still is a challenge for many. There are many car rental companies specialises in offroading vehicles and the rental price for a Tank 300 is about the same as a Land Cruiser Prado, that says something. Again thanks for watching and thank you for your comments.
Thanks for the video. More information on towing capacity would have been good. I'm very happy with the build quality of my GWM utility. A check of the component manufacturers will reveal some quality suppliers, ie. Bosch, Borg Warner, ZF gearbox etc. I wish people would investigate further before posting crap.
The biggest issue in Australia seems to be reliability & resale. Lots of MG, HAVAL, LDV vehicles seem to be back at dealers for various warranty issues. Then a lot seem to be going back on sale privately after only a few months of ownership. Dealers here generally won't take them as trade in irrespective of distance covered or age & most dealers may or will require a fee of up to 3% of any trade in price paid as a disposal fee . Chinese vehicles are incrementally improving , but still have long way to go as far as quality & reliability are concerned
The issue with Chinese SUVs in Australia (and other similar markets) is that while they offer lots of features for a very low price, they usually gimp on the drive train: undersized engines, undersized suspensions, thinner linkage arms, lower spec brakes etc. This is not as much of an issue for the Chinese market as hardly anyone goes offroad there. But here in Australia you cannot avoiding going offroad on any road trip so the quality issues became really apparent. Not to mention due to the remoteness of Australia if you get bogged down in the outback it will be extremely costly and dangerous. That's why Land Cruisers absolutely rule the outback due to their over-engineered suspensions and reliability. If Chinese brands truely want to challenge the likes of LC300 or even Ford Everest (ute based SUV) they need to change their approach on engineering big time.
True! Chinese products are still very much taking copy the concepts and make it cheap approach in most cases. And in some cases, that strategy would hurt it’s reputation as a result. The Tank costs 60% as Toyota LC 300 in China. It is not a bargain at all once you take second hand selling price into account.
@@matthewwaller3188 agreed, we've had a Cannon X for nearly 12 months and absolutely stoked with it. Considering trading up to the new T500, but will wait until GWM 'hopefully' bring to Australia the X Cannon (Ram1500?F150 size) with the same V6TT/9spd driveline. If they import both T500 & X Canon, GWM will have some very serious sales figures in the coming years.
@@techlock-trading yes agreed, I’m awaiting the larger Ute. I’m hoping something with a GVM the same as a ram will be great. I find most of the reviews about cannons when put against all the mainstream just all seem to skip over how good they really are buy just focusing on silly things like power figures on paper but if you drive one I find it takes off pretty damn quick in sports mode…
I think you better go and visit a GWM and Haval showroom. Even lloking at the new Ranger, that just cought up to the Cannon, the later is better built. You can deny it if you will, but fact is a fact.
Very good review. The Land Cruiser is the "Gold Standard" of rugged offroad SUVs. Comparing this vehicle to the LC is "Apples and Oranges" in my opinion. A fairer comparison would be with the Lincoln Navigator. Thank you for your review!
While Land Cruiser is a proven rugged offroader, its likely that 95% of Lancruiser owners don't use it to its maximum offroad potential. I think Tank 500 would be more than sufficient for the vast majority at almost half the price with better interior and better city driving.
But Lincoln never tried to be offroady, afaik. I personally think the closest competitor is Nissan Patrol. Back in 2009 it revolutionised the segment by being an affordable luxury land yacht that could drive over any terrain. Tank 500 has front differential lock while Patrol had better ground clearance and could actually flex the suspension.
You just earned a new sub your english is very good and you gave us lots of info about the cars and I'm sure in a couple of months they are going to be on the road in Saudi Arabia
Very good video. Here in Madagascar 🇲🇬 Chinese cars are very successful (GWM, Geely, BYD, JAC, Foton, Kaiyi, Wuling, BAIC, Chery, Changan, MG, DongFeng, ...) because they have lots of innovations and they are cheaper. But if I have the money, I will buy Range Rover, Mercedes, BMW, Audi or why not a Porsche Cayenne. But for reliability, Toyota is the best. The LC300 is the perfect SUV for a daily drive (on road or off road).
You are claiming a tank is a serious contender for land cruiser? No at any level. If you have money are you confident to pick Tank over Toyota land cruiser ? A big no.
The one I’d go for would be the one with the best spares and back up for the longer term. However, if I flipped every three to five years, the Tank would be mighty tempting. No mention of relative fuel consumption in the video.
Does the car have other colours? I guess this colour might make the car appear less dusty than it actually is,but would love to see some other choices of colour
Of course it has, the car has other paint options like white, blue etc, but the most popular ones are this champagne color and black. You can also choose two tone interior as well.
Very few LC buyers get it for the short haul. Typical LC buyers don't get a new one until the old one breaks: which it never does😆. On a more serious note, LC buyers don't get it for the looks (Interior or exterior) they get LC for the reliability and capability. HP and Torque are all well and good but with an LC i'm guaranteed of longevity. The Tank's price might entice someone who isn't worried about the long term though
What I respect about GWM is that they had the balls to make the front diff lock available. Most automakers think their customers are stupid and will damage the vehicle. Like, where the hell was Land Rover looking? What I dislike are less than adequate claimed ground clearance (actually looks taller than that) and the silliest brand name on the planet, which, btw, I taught myself to pronounce in Chinese with all the tones and sh*t (tănkè), cos I don't wanna think of actual people k*lling machines when thinking of Tănkè 500, my favorite SUV on the market. Maybe they meant like fuel tank? Water tank in the desert with life saving cold fresh liquid inside? A compressed air tank of an electric compressor that you use to clean stuff when DIYing?
Hi love the video. We are in Australia are you able to tell us what the towing capacity is for the Tank 500. Also what the gross combined mass is. Thanks
the tank is very beautifull with all the tecknology goody. the question is can it hold it against landcruiser 300 on durabilty and reliability after 500000km use . i will always pick usefulnes over anything. so the toyota 300 is better
Looks very nice, I have to agree with some of the other comments though. I am dubious of its off road capability however having said that I think this will sell extremely well in Aus as the wait list for a Ford ranger or everest is 12 month minimum, a landcruiser is 24 months and most other competitors have similar wait times. Great wall is selling volumes because it is available, cheaper and not a massive step behind in performance and comfort.
At least you'll have a lot more money left for performance upgrade if there's the need ✌😊 and wait time! That is actually the main deciding factor for me 😅😅 if I'm both wanting and able to buy a new car now, I want my new toy now! 😀
I wish they bring back that Toyota Land Cruiser that make like this one love that sunroof like this one in United States of America of course they have 4WD in that suv
Hmm, in my opinion real offroad vehicles don't need any chrome attachments. It is meant to be used in the wild... but then all these shiny parts will get scratchy and dull
Nice looking vehicle offering great value for money, but would be great if the reviewer was a little bit more objective. For example (1) The screen has a significant lag and (2) At 5'4" there was always going to be loads of leg room in the rear
LC 300 probably is unlikely to lose sales to this. Lack of a diesel engine, sub par quality on most Chinese cars aren't likely to take any sales away from the Toyota. Quality, reliability & resale are going to need to improve massively . Something that's seriously & sorely lacking on other Chinese cars here currently .
well, Tank 300 has been doing very well in Australia, doing so well that it's already got a cult following despite such a short time here. I think the smart money will cross shop, if they do the warranty terms right, it will no doubt steal sales from would be Toyota customers.
Been doing business in China for years and have been driven around in a lot of Chinese auto's. To say they make garbage is to say the best thing you could say about their production. Comparing this to a land Cruiser is just plain dumb.
I hated everything China made. However, my wife went to buy our daughter a new car and she returned with a new car for yourself. GWM Haval H6 hybrid. Looks modern, quality seems good, performs well, and rides well. I was impressed and exceeded my expectations. Friends are new into the GWM Tank 300 and off rd it to the extreme without upgrades along with all the other japan model equivalents and again exceeding their expectations.
I owned a Dodge SUV car for over 13 years in Australia. And there was only an okay seat not comfortable for 2 hour drives under hot weather and not enough safe tech to prevent car accident. I can honestly say that. It has been come a long way for car industry to make a safer and more comfortable car with tech in 2023. You always can find a long list of safety recall from all different car brands. Even on the most expensive car Mercedes, Bentley etc. So for those who post negative comments please stop these bible bashing for once and be happy with for what they have improved.
Exterior is a bit too traditional very boring looking. However the interior is both modern and luxurious well and high tech as well. Desirable without the usual ridiculous price tag most manufacturers are charging nowadays. Want one! 👍👍😀
you have to tell people what's your height while showing the rear seats space..you having a lot of knee room does not necessary equal someone else having..we should know what's your height in order to have an idea of the space itself
Please Are you able to respond to the comments by Henry Orcustus. He has raised very pertinent issues, A response would be much appreciated. I was going to ask about availability in Australia. Thankyou BeeKay PNG
