Another great example of a wrestler having what I consider a "series" where multiple moves that they're proficient at INDIVIDUALLY also have the ability to connect together

This is my 8th video in 8 days. I'm posting so much because I plan on making a course soon and there are certain videos that I want to have posted before I make it since it's going to be interactive. I'm going to let this one sit for a few days. Thank you for the kind words. I was really excited to make this video. If you like this one, watch my videos on Dom Demas and Jaxon Smith. I do the chain summary just like I did in this one.

I don't see FHL throws or rolls with an underhook in FS or GR. They go under the armpit from the outside in. Why do you see the underhook version in folkstyle?
@earnyourgold
@earnyourgold 10 месяцев назад
@@michiel5160 because I’m FS & GR only exposure matters. In Folkstyle the guy is trying to keep the guy on his back to get back points or the pin. Doing it when an underhook makes that easier
@michiel5160
@michiel5160 10 месяцев назад
@@earnyourgold A pin also ends a FS or GR match. In FS they often snap from collar and underhook to FHL and then change the grip. Which can be very thight when done right. Makes me wonder if this grip is even allowed in folkstyle. Anyway, I like this video format.
@earnyourgold
@earnyourgold 10 месяцев назад
@@michiel5160 yes the grip is also allowed in folkstyle. And yeah Pins end the match in all styles but in Olympic styles the guys don’t really go for pins as much as we do in folkstyle. They just get the exposure points

Oooh that knee is something i haven't noticed in 40 years of watching this move
@holographer
@holographer 10 месяцев назад
It’s truly the key to executing especially when there is no momentum. Sometimes the opponent will force themselves through by driving in and it becomes more of a roll (I’ve heard it called the Williams in that context). At the college level guys know it’s coming. 2:51 Sparks is pulling back slightly but he’s still cooked when the knee becomes a fulcrum and his legs never find the mat again.

Agreed the knee is pretty slick, and I wouldn't have caught that unless he pointed it out.

Incredible breakdown. This and your Dom Demas series are highlights of systemic chain wrestling. You are becoming a coach’s coach! It feels like you and Cael Sanderson are really pushing the sport of wrestling forward in the 21st century. Do you have a Patreon or something? I would love to $$$ to continue supporting these types of videos. PS- I also loved the lil history lesson at the beginning. Keep doing those! Love seeing moves from yesterday be used today.

The web diagram is a great way to illustrate a series or offense from a given position. Not sure I've seen that done before but it makes a ton of sense, especially for coaches.

Great video-great explanation-as always.Your tutorials are the best on the internet-by a lot-great wrestlers against great wrestlers-moves work! Rules must have changed from 1968-1973. My memory is headlocks were illegal UNLESS one arm was also trapped with the neck/head. I think the idea was to prevent opponent from being "choked out" -neck blood vessels-arteries/veins-from being occluded-lights out. The trapped arm protected blood vessels on one side.-Guessing rule change was to make collegiate wrestling closer to freestyle. In any case-single legs- are lethal now-for the attacker! Great stuff-thanks. Just ignore my "cranky old man" rant below-get old-72-you will get it Oh-I am going full "Old guy crank" now-in respect to the Euro-trash who dictate freestyle rules- 1)Don't allow headgear-so EVERY freestyle wrestler is disfigured-for life-why?? badge of honor like some candy ass Prussian fencer?? 2)But they don't allow you to trap their foot by stepping on it?? What kind of WIMP rule is THAT?? They should PAY for sticking that foot out! Step on it-they drop like a stone. OK I am done being a crazy old man- Great video-as always-BEST PRACTICAL TUTORIALS ON INTERNET-much better than a coach demo-ing moves-these are REAL MATCHES- excellent wrestlers-great stuff-coach demonstrating moves-not the same as real life

Great job breaking down this series. My HS wrestlers in Michigan have been savages with the cow catcher (we call it bulldog) and cement mixer (we call it twister) and even inside trip but we struggled with the gator bacon. After seeing this video we revisited the gator bacon with a few of our kids and they were loving it. I sent them a link to this video and told them to subscribe as well. We appreciate the great content. Keep up the great work!

It’s interesting because I’m a jiujitsu guy and we use elevators (or butterfly guard as we call it) pretty often. In fact we use this type of setup pretty common because we suck at takedown defense 😂 so we grab the front headlock and try to get to a guillotine choking position. If the choke fails then you can crunch their neck and head downward and use your elevator to kick them over and go to mount or top position. All that said I’ve never thought about using the knee with the elevator and in my head I’m trying to figure out why we don’t. Great video and thanks for sharing!

This video was especially good for me to watch after Disney duals, so I can see a few different moves. I got a front headlock countless times in several matches, but spent a lot of time just trying to pull my arm out from the other guy's grip for a go-behind.

Just my take here but the position of the foot in regards to his opponents is the difference on whether he takes the sweep or inside trip. When his foot was outside of his opponents he hits the foot sweep

@2:43 that was so cool, jam the head, the supplex right over the head. looks kind of dangerous for the other guy jamming someone's neck like that. My coach would encourage us not to do something like that because we would be pulling the other guy on top of us and on to our backs. We usually went left or right or rolled, none of that over the head stuff. That's kind of new. Ref could call you on that tho for being a slam if you get to high up, on the other hand it was legal to slam someone as long as you were going into a pin

How beneficial is an elevator and a cement mixer for folk style? Should I just use these moves for freestyle?
@davidhughes4785
@davidhughes4785 10 месяцев назад
Gator Bacon Elevator maybe not effective in Freestyle rules against top level opponents. Probably more stalemates and possibly losing 2 points near fall on way to being stalemated. On the other hand, he might be able to pin some good wrestlers with Gator Bacon Elevator. If I’d have wrestled him 45 to 50 years ago, I would have been caught flat on my back, when he did any move in this series you have broken down. Thank you thank you thank you! Your powers of observation and strategy are top notch!

I don't really watch folkstyle, but a lot of greco and freestyle and I have never seen a throw from the FHL with a underhook. They go from the outside under the armpit and lock hands. Why do they do it different in international styles?
@davidhughes4785
@davidhughes4785 10 месяцев назад
@@michiel5160 Maybe different rules make some moves less or more likely to be successful. And possibly men’s freestyle has older wrestlers that are more resistant to moves done by college wrestlers. Different ages, different rules, and different levels can allow certain moves to be successful in college wrestling and not in international wrestling. I dunno. Again thanks for great videos!
@davidhughes4785
@davidhughes4785 10 месяцев назад
@@michiel5160 I don’t know Possibly different rules, and or different officiating emphasis. Possibly some moves might work on US college wrestlers, mostly ages 18 to 21, that might not work as well against international wrestlers peaking in strength and skills at ages closer to 28-30 years. Or maybe this is a “new” move that will find its way to high levels of international freestyle competition I would just be pinned, but I was a journeyman skillset wrestler, rather than an All American or National Champ. Great to see videos showing top matches! Thanks

these guys hesrolling over gotta do some BJJ classes and learn to clear that middle leg and try to get in between his legs or completly cross his body if hes holding that "choke" 7:48 could the guy in brown just start moving towards him an put his knee across the belly i cant tell if hes blocking the cross body with the other leg but he still might beable to squeez that knee across and take the full mount or literally summersalt over the top maybe create a scramble? and 2:09 during the takedown he gotta release that leg put the hand on the front of it and rotate// move his legs to the opposite side of the choking arm do whatever you have to do to clear those legs and get ur body on the opposite side and get into side control and u have a pin if he keeps holding on or in jitz u can push your shoulder in his neck and he gonna let go ... or at 2:10 during the pause the guy ontop bring his left leg on the inside of the guy on the bottom so he cant get that foot in the middle if u gotta straighten that leg and smash the knee into the gooch whatever u gotta do clear both legs or take saftey in between the legs - bad for jujitsu cause then he wrapps his legs around u and gillotine but for wrestling he cant choke... or you bring your body all the way around to the other side same exact concept as earlier and put ur shoulder into his neck to release the choke if he holds on after u clear those legs. i feel like theres a lot of chances on the times its not successfull immediatly and there is these small pause moments. unless you know what your looking for with that middle leg. this guy could potentially get countered and pinned hes almost giving it to them . once he has them flat though i think they can only shrimp into full guard but theyll be pinnned by then
