Ok for clarification: The reason she was very brutally training her battalion was that she hopes the soldiers would drop out/give up on being in the battalion on their own, cause she actually DOESN'T want her own battalion, and DOESN'T want to go to war. It's a 7-10 year old body pumped full of fight juice . When training her squad,she was setting unrealistic standards and tough training on purpose. She wanted them to quit. If a decent number quit,she might get an extension on the month she has to train them,which means more time out of the front lines. The avalanche was caused by one of them screaming curses at her,VERY LOUD, in snowy mountains. That's the same guy she kicked the shit out of. She did it to get the snow out of his lungs. But god is a cheater. He put paperwork in the right place for candidates. He had her file "happen" to be the one to come up when testing an unstable weapon. He gave a dream to a scientist to make it better. He rigged it to never work and only explode if doesnt Tanya pray. Any time she prays,he brainwashes her little by little.as far as we know,she wears a rosary against her will because of the brainwashing.since she's the only one to be able to use it,she's always on the front lines. they didn't light up the whole Dakian capital,only the ammo depots and shit after giving a warning as required by international law. God also allowed 3 different prayers focused on one person on the enemy side to come true, creating a supersoldier that is out to kill her specifically . Tanya is by no means a good person, but every life she ended is on God's hands.

Also they also explained that Tanya goes into fits of mania, where she starts smiling and laughing manically during battles because she souped up on magic, in this universe magic can act like cocaine when you are exposed to a high concentration of it, such as when your casting lots of spells as they do when they're fighting, the manga goes in depth about but long story short they have many layers of magical spells on them at all times when they're fighting, so they gain heightened senses, increased durability/endurance, increased reaction speed, increased agility, increased strength, etc. The state they go in when they're souped up on magic, also makes them more resilient to pain, and mental/physical fatigue so they fight for longer, and shrug off hits, although this does take a toll on the body so they can't maintain this state for long, but it's usually long enough to deal with your enemy, it also depends on your base fitness.*

There is one important thing that is in the manga but not in the anime, and that is "God Mode Terms of Service". To go over the basics, Tanya is already a sociopath, but also has a magic gem (like all field mages), but hers is completely cheated. This magic gem is unstable and kept blowing her face off when she was a test subject (for that gem). One day when the mad scientist who created this gem was crazier than usual, he deliberately tampered with the ejection system Tanya was using to separate herself from the gem when it seemed to explode. Suddenly, she was unable to free herself from this bomb hanging around her neck. The god of Isakai said her then "You who totally reject my existence, if you want to survive and use the superpowered gem, you must pray to me, good luck". So when she uses the gem in "God Mode", her eyes glow yellow because it's God's power boosting her already overpowered attacks. So when a character has access to the powers of this god because he likes to fuck with people, their eyes glow yellow. Now, the terms of use of this "blessed" gem. Each time Tanya prays to use it, she becomes more dependent on this power which burns out her neurons. If she smiles like that, it's not that she particularly appreciates the massacre, it's because she is completely high and increasingly wild because of this power which she needs to survive this war. Those who use the power of this god become savage fanatics, which is the purpose of this god: to make Tanya the ultimate blasmemous atheist, their messiah. And for that, you have to fry her brains by making her use the cheated gem, and for that, he has to put her in danger in the face of fairly powerful opponents, so savagely cheated by the grace of this power of god. It's a standoff between a god and a human, but the human in question is as devoid of humanity as this god. I think it's a shame that it's not integrated (at least for now) into the anime, it's a whole important component that has been removed.
