Thank you so much for having me on! I wanted to make a small correction the Taoist five elements are: earth, fire, water, metal, and wood. Wind/air is one of the four Buddhist elements 😅

I’d highly recommend the game “everything”. It deals with Daoist concepts and it’s an experience more than an objective based typical game. It’s narrated by Alan Watts and you can transform from the smallest thing such as a quark or photon to a galaxy cluster or black hole and everything in between such as a sloth, skyscraper, dolphin, tv or cigarette butt. I’m also curious about the symbolism behind the Taeguk flag and its colors. As well as the link Korea played between chinesr and Japanese philosophy. Great discussion!!!

A game narrated by Alan Watts? I need to find this!! haha My next guest is Bernardo Kastrup by the way. Starting to feel nervous thinking of how I can prepare for that or what in the world I should ask him...

Interesting conversation on a topic (and its variations), fascinating. I was inspired to finally purchase off my wishlist a copy of “The Land of Scholars” which I’m finding quite enjoyable. It’s interesting how you’ve come to study these philosophies (your dharma perhaps?), and I wish you the best in your research and thesis. Do keep Professor Tizzard updated for future conversations, philosophical studies only grow and expand, ever changing.

I like taking a wuwei approach to working with my young leaners. They lead, I follow. They speak. I repeat. I learn to copy them. They learn to copy me. The teacher and the students pushing and pulling. Together we learn to flow naturally in our interactions. Note: there are lots of critical breaks because kids are floating around like butterflies a lot of the time.

Perhaps it may be said that in Taoism there is only creation (the creative process), or that creator, creature and creation coincide. In Western thought we can't help but think in a trinitarian kind of way, which is the general structure of Western languages: subject, verb and object. There is a glitch of that in sentences like "it's raining" or "it's snowing", not insignificantly referring to natural phenomena. In English we still need to put an impersonal subject there. In other languages, for example in Italian, there's only the verb ("piove", "nevica"). In Taoism, one could say, that tripartite structure is absent. Everything is like "piove".

This is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Have you read Rick Rubin's book The Creative Act, perchance? I started reading it this morning and get very similar vibes...

Taoism is considered the eternal truth of the universe-what reality fundamentally is. It lies beyond conception and is therefore ineffable and transcends language. Despite language limitations, we can compare the words left by accomplished Taoist cultivators with our own experiences of mind’s original nature. Illuminating the mind to see one’s original nature is the central theme common to all branches of Taoism. To have a mind that cannot see itself is to be without self-knowledge. It is necessary to engage in Taoist practices to discover firsthand the fundamental essence of our minds.

Though not an 'idiom' exactly, a common phrase I've seen for '까마귀 날자 배 떨어진다' is, "correlation does not imply causation." - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correlation_does_not_imply_causation

I was at dinner on Friday night and someone suggested this exact English phrase to me. What a wonderful moment of synchronicity! Another friend then tried to explain the original Korean to me as I had perhaps not fully understood it. They used the expression 과전불납리 이하부정관 to shed further light on things. Appreciate your own insight and being part of the conversation.
