Tara Brach: The Courage to Love, Part I [2019-06-12]
The gateway to full intimacy and love is our capacity to open to vulnerability. These two talks look at our ways of avoiding vulnerability, and offer guidance in learning to contact and transform our fears into awake and loving presence.
We waste so much energy trying to cover up who we are
when beneath every attitude is the want to be loved
and beneath every anger is a wound to be healed
and beneath every sadness is the fear that there will not be enough time…
Our challenge each day is not to get dressed to face the world
but to unglove ourselves so that the door knob feels cold
and the car handle feels wet
and the kiss goodbye feels like the lips of another being
soft and unrepeatable.
~ Mark Nepo, from The Book of Awakening

Most often I find that other people are afraid. Of course I mostly go to twelve step recovery meetings, so the people I interact with are suffering from cptsd and borderline personality disorder... their insecurity and defensiveness is very troubling to them, but most are not yet capable of seeing it. Some attempt to draw me into a codependency, "take me hostage", so to speak. I share insights with them, in meetings and online. It's sometimes frustrating that most are afraid to even consider letting go of their toxic coping strategies, but... once in a while there's an indication that someone has a "moment of clarity". That makes all of it worth the effort.💖🌻🙏🏼

Soooo divine. Is it possible that our ability to heal ourselves, change, recover or even offer loving kindness is directly linked to our knowledge, first and foremost, that we are loved unconditionally by an uncreated higher power, being, essence, energy, or whatever we may choose to call this loving creator? If this could be true for us, we may continue with the steps, however may in number, toward a sober and spiritually engaged life. If we do this daily in a partnership with this creator God and at least one more human being, we will be on the path of becoming a mirror of love and kindness to others. “When two or more are gathered in my name, I am there.” The Perennial Tradition. Use what you need and leave the rest in the name of Love.

There is a seemingly huge fear of loving in today's society.

I agree with this whole heartedly. I think one thing we need to learn more about is boundaries.

Michael Harding so sick of hearing about ‘boundaries’. It has subtle violence suggesting nationalistic attitudes towards personal space. I’d prefer to use the word ‘sphere’. It’s more holistic and reflects the internal experience.

Michael Harding You sound like the kind of misogynist who would abandon his girlfriend for farting.
