There was one shirt I got that you didn't rate- it was a queers take care of eachothef sweater. The text is fanch and the sweater is black. I really like it, and maybe you would too!
For whatever reason... I'm pretty sure it's the same "whatever reason" that they're still trying to change the name of Fairy Penguins to Little Penguins - performative, and ignorant, allyship. You know that if you think the word 'fairy' is insulting, that's on YOU, not fairies... right? Eyeroll.
"Ask me about my pronouns" shirt feels like something you'd see a tv show trying to get queer views by having a trans character, that character would wear that
I think people are generally unaware of the reference to Accepted and ask me about my wiener and honestly I'm glad cuz it should be read earnestly for extra irony
lmao, my first pride after telling my mom about my gender issues, when I was first trying to figure stuff out. One of the stands had someone passing buttons out, (with the same statement) and my mom got me one. I wasn't fond of it, I thought the exact same as your comment. So in Sharpie I added a little 'don't' at the start of it. I'd like to think I present masc enough that even if people 'can tell' I'm AFAB, they know what pronouns to use for me. My ideal life as a trans guy is being recognized as male presenting, not needing a button to open a kinda personal discussion with potential strangers.
@Rebecca Carson it’s a joke. bigots like to say things like “the blue hair and pronouns crowd” and it’s something we’ve co opted to make into our own inside joke. it’s the same with “rainbow mafia” it used to be an insult and now we use it for ourselves to be funny
@@Adamant_Adam yeah I feel like the phrase is best for non-binary people like gender-fluid where they enjoy being androgynous or switch between she, he, and they.
I feel like the bathing suits designed for trans people should not just be part of the pride collection, it should be sold year-round. (At least through the target website)
Seriously. Finding a swim suit that's transmasc friendly & isn't coloured the most obnoxious cis girl colours is fucking hard. If my local TKMaxx sold swimming binders I'd want that shit available year round like it is available in Sports Direct for cis people
@@genericegirl0you have a point, it's not just unicorn barf everywhere now or a shirt that seems like someone just made a pride flag with arm holes but it still isn't good
I feel like Spencer's as a company is genuinely more pro-gay than some others, they have pride shit available for sale in store and online all year round, they recognize their demographic is mostly queer, and they have more variety of flags and designs, but my GOD it's absolutely hideous and every time I go into a Spencer's I get that embarrassing cold chill when I pass by a crop top with bisexual flag hearts on the boobs
Spencer’s has sold pride stuff and other… items… made for LGBT people longer than any other mall store I can think of, so accusing them of rainbow capitalism seems strange.
a few years ago, there was a mug that had “cheers queers!” in a cursive font on it, and my straight coworker (love her so much) said “awww, it says cheers queen” and i had to explain to her that it was “queers” we broke down laughing/crying :) to this day anytime we’re not having a great day at work she’ll randomly drop “cheers queens” and it makes us laugh :)
This is DEFINITELY an issue of Multi-million companies who have never actively supported the lgbt community But only started to support it when it started to become a money opportunity. Edit: I changed the spelling.
@@danny2481 in recent years target has started getting more queer designers to create their pride merch (look at some of the collections from a few years ago to see how much better theyve gotten), and theyve refused to tone it down in the face of controversy. so in terms of big corporations doing pride, i think target is about as good as you are going to get atm. of course its always better to support queer-owned businesses when it comes to pride merch, but i wouldnt feel guilty whatsoever if you buy targets merch either. at the end of the day a lot of it is actually cute!!
Corporations don’t like asexuals because these companies are trying to push hyper sexuality. That’s why mainstream music is often centered around sex. Asexuals challenge this status quo. That’s why everyone seems to overlook asexuality.
I WORK AT MICHEALS AND THEY HAD THE ENBY FLAG THE PAN FLAG THE BI FLAG THE ACE FLAG THE GAY FLAG THE RAINBOW FLAG AND THE PROGRESSIVE PRIDE FLAG BUT NO LESBIAN FLAG
They had this gorgeous green and purple shirt that said “Gender Euphoria” and the definition, but when I went to buy it it rang up as a “Do Not Sell” and they didn’t let me buy it 💔
my cishet brother: "You know that companies are only selling rainbow things because they want your money, right? My Pan Enby ass: "why are you explaining rainbow capitalism to me"
I mean it’s not literally anything...During Christmas time they sell Christmas things Valentine’s Day Valentine’s Day things Halloween Halloween things because they want your money. This isn’t a new concept
@a nation that's different. Very different. Christmas, Halloween, and valentines day are useless fun holidays. While pride is about a movement and accepting marginalized people.
Whenever Anna looks at the camera to talk to her trans subscribers (me), I always get so giggly. Yes, girl, lesbian and trans solidarity! Love your videos as always!
yes!! all the stuff by ash + chess is so so cute. i have their queer tarot set and its absolutely lovely. im so glad to see their stuff in such a big store!!
@@MikanVTuber lol yeah i commented before she said it lol. I’ve worked at target for a few years and I’m used to people reviewing the collection but never mentioning that they use queer designers. Love that she did her research
As someone who has to be pretty closeted because of homophobic parents and living in a very homophobic state (Tennessee sucks ass), I am kind of totally okay with the black and white rainbow stuff. It lets me fly at least *something* without being too afraid of backlash.
Exactly. I love the swim shorts cause it has nods to queer history but me wearing in Virginia I won’t be worried about it making people want to talk to me about Jesus
@@whitneyhendrix8075 Exactly! I would love to fly Pride colours but, I really don't wanna risk violence. I've been called slurs where I live for just getting my hair cut short, don't want more of that tyvm.
@@rebeccacarson2975 they were laughing about the idea that corporate greed pandering to queer people was seen by that person as an end goal for the lgbtqia+ rights movement. (like, "oh, we don't need to protest inequality or contest bigoted laws anymore--target is selling rainbow shirts with 'i'm gay!' written on them!") they mentioned this person being self-hating because they are arguing against their own interests, not because the thought of someone loathing themself was funny to OP lol
@Rebecca Carson Okay, I'll try to give an answer that'll hopefully be respectful. I think it does suck a lot when people within the community hate themselves and each other. It is, sadly, a product of the homophobic society we live in. That being said, those of us who know better *might* end up getting some sense of amusement of the not-so-smart things those self hating queer people say, simply because what they're saying is just inaccurate and nonsensical. That, or they just have a tendency to laugh whenever they hear something they don't like, like a sort of defense mechanism.
Target had a book called "A daughter needs a dad" right next to the pet pride stuff. My mom, a single mom, was upset by the book and I was looking at the pride stuff like... what if the daughter has two moms? Just.. A weird juxtaposition is all
the only "good sign" is that diversity is profitable instead of ONLY repression being profitable (they still do both), meaning that the grotesque corporate representation is a reflection of something positive in the general public. not revolutionary, the bar is so low, but it's at least a little nugget of hope for me
The Green Boilersuit was cute until I saw what I like to call a GAY STAMP of gay in the back. That HUGE stamp in the back makes it seem like its a prison suit used to differentiate the "Gays" from the others.
Omg nooo I love it and was tempted to get it until you said that. Good thing I read your comment before I got it. That would have been embarrassing otherwise
i was looking at some of their stuff the other day, homophobes are bombing the reviews of all the pride stuff with bigotry :/ i feel like target shouldnt let you review things you haven’t bought. i have the ‘trans people will always exist’ shirt and its so so comfy
The one garment I would hugely change is the boiler suit. I LOVE the green jumpsuit but hate the text so much. I wish they had leaned into the MLM color scheme with maybe some teal white and blue florals or maybe designs coming from the ankles up. They never put the MLM flag on pride merch and I totally wish they took the opportunity to go bright and retro with the green jumpsuit that totally fits already!
My guess is always that theres been a buncha goofy drama around the mlm "toothpaste" flag, so for mainstream shops it's not a safe enough design to use :/. Totally agree it'd be cool to see tho.
the relevance of schitts creek and pride is that the cation on that shirt was essentially david's (the guy on the shirt) coming out, at least to the viewers. hes cannon pansexual, (and its like verbally said and acknowledged a couple times which i love!) and that was just him explaining to his friend like what that means i believe
Thanks for leaving a comment explaining more of the context! I honestly love that scene, so it broke my heart a tiny bit to hear her rag on the shirt. 😭 But obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I understand that someone won’t find it as impactful or interesting if they don’t watch the show and don’t have connections to the characters.
@@MusicizmahQueenSBed4 it made SO SAD that it went in Homophobia because that scene was the first time I felt my sexuality truly expressed in words I understood. It was that scene that was the beginning of me acknowledging to myself I was panesexual. Maybe that just means I’m a wine-o 😂
I was so sad that she didn't know the reference and doesn't know anything about Schit's Creek. Dan Levy isn't just an actor, he and his dad created the show and co-wrote it. Those are his words!
There’s at least a 75% chance you’re queer if you’re watching this? Those numbers are looking kinda low team, I’d like to see a 10% increase by next quarter.
That dress wasn't even really a skater dress it was more of a smock dress, skater dresses have a more pronounced waist and are generally made of stretchier fabric whereas smock dresses are more a loose comfy tent kind of style made of woven fabric, that's probably why you haven't seen performers wear dresses like the one from this vid, cause they don't. I roller skate and absolutely love wearing skater dresses while skating cause they flares out so nicely when you spin
The phrase "Ask me about my..." will always only remind me of the 2006 film Accepted with Jonah Hill where he wears a hot dog suit and says "Ask me about my weiner"
the "sorry, can't think straight!" shirt is something I would have worn in middle school 😂💀 EDIT: I would wear "if being gay was a choice I'd be gayer" just for shits and giggles-
People who tuck deserve cute bathing suits, though! Not odd 00s-child colorblock monstrosities 🤢 an adorable modern tropical pattern, a cute nerdy design, or even a solid color with fun texture would have made that suit worthy of the cute category!
@@injusticenation5536 Cause there usually aren't any just for Aros, and the ones that are, respectfully, that I've encountered in the wild are a bit lacking. I wanna see that fumbled attempt, to see someone recognize us as a market and fumble it anyway.
I just get bothered when brands use it purely for marketing. Just because June ended doesn’t mean you need to stop supporting the community. Maybe it’s specific to my target but July rolls around and all the pride clothes are gone from display.. but I’m still bi the other 11 months too..
I mean, they're not supporting us during june either, they're just taking our money. I just like it as a social thermometer to tell me that the average normie isn't violently ill at the sight of a queer person
Literally had only been to a target for the second time in my life the other day and when I walked passed their pride section I couldn't help but be like wtf is going on here. Love the support but idk man On another note the target was so underfunded there were clothes everywhere and it was dead silent. It was super apocalyptic but no one looked stressed honestly I loved it
Killed me on the you tried for the colorblock 💀 at the very least, the swimsuit offers help for pre-op trans women (aka, a pocket) so that bumps it up for me at least.
Hehehe Annamarie picks the pink shirt with the white text live laugh lesbian then proceeds to trash any shirt with light color and white text. Love ya, found it absolutely hilarious :D
as much as rainbow capitalism is eye-rolling, and their lack of actual support deafening, I'm just glad that being queer and/or supportive is popular enough for them to pander to
I feel like what you do is balance it with just an absolutely abhorrent straight shirt, the kind that has a list of very specific adjectives about you. Keep people guessing by wearing one right after the other
Capitalism doesn’t tend to push asexuality because the corporate elites are trying to promote hyper sexuality. Supporting asexuality would go against their agenda.
Me too. Also, nothing for aromanticism either (I'm aroace). But yeah, I feel like asexuality and aromanticism are always forgotten with stuff like this. So, I'm sad, but not surprised.
@@LilyGinnyBlack35 they literally mostly capitalize on gay and trans folks (and the occasional bi merch) and ignore other sexualities. V sad but not surprised, yall are so valid (as a nonbinary person who saw the NB flag exactly once in this video)
I did buy them, I have wanted a pair of black shortalls foreverrrr (I hate belts and/or having to pull up my pants, I guess my body is weirdly shaped) and the fact that they had a little rainbow put these over the top for me. They were also not insanely priced like some I've seen online.
Okay, off topic, but Anna is literally so pretty that my internalized bisexuality is shaking in its boots. (Holy crap she liked my comment! I love your videos!! 🥰)
@@ДарьяЧернышева-н4х I thought bi was an umbrella term that encompassed pan, omni, etc. no? I don't know if he outright said which he was, so I said bi to be safe
I have the crossbody sling backpack and it’s really cute. The zipper tags have aroace, bi, gay men, and pan gradients on them and the zipper seams have a pretty rainbow gradient. Capitalism really pops off sometimes.
That pink dress looks like it could be a beach cover-up. Target's gotta bring back the pan flag bandana from a few years ago, like 2019 maybe. As a bandana-wearing pansexual who knows pun-fu, I need a pan-dana so bad.
Please please please look at the Pride Bratz dolls made last year. They are a sapphic couple with bi and lesbian Pride pins and they make my gay heart melt.
David from Schitts Creek sleeps with his bff and when she’s asking about his sexuality he explains that he’s pan by saying he likes the wine not the label and it’s a really sweet moment. I agree that it’s red bubble type merch though.
I have the gender fluid mug, my mom got it for me on my aunts suggestion, and i felt so seen and loved. I really wanna get one of the enby shirts now too bc i wanna represent my gender identity this pride. Nobody really knows im not cis, but its still a significant part of me that i feel strongly about
I identify as aromantic and straight however I'm also very supportive of the LGBTQ community hopefully things will get better for the transgender community no one should be treated unfairly because of their gender identity or sexual orientation
@@Lil1kv Stop shaming this woman. It's true what she's saying and we as a human species have failed if we let biological men absolutely destroy women's sports. Just because some of the LGBTQ+ members think they are some justice warriors that doesn't mean they actually are. The real injustice is letting these "men" do whatever they want because "progress". Have you ever heard about trans men winning every category in sports? No, of course not. Why is that, I wonder?
@Rebecca Carson you do realize for many professional sports there have been cis women who haven’t been allowed to play because they had too much testosterone. transwomen aren’t just destroying every cis woman in sports because if they were you would be seeing transwomen getting first place in every womens sport competition ever. you’re being stupid and decisive on purpose. don’t be baby brained, do s9me actual research on who is and isn’t allowed to playin professional sports. (also, nobody gives a fuck about high school sports so I really don’t care whether trans women are beating cis women in high school. it’s high school. if right wing psychos stopped banning minors from hormone therapy then maybe the trans women wouldn’t be crushing them as brutally as you think they are. solutions abound!!!!)
I love the swim shorts! I don't like wearing bright colors because I'm shy and don't like to draw attention to myself so those would be perfect for me for pride. Love the overalls too and the bikini (but the fit wouldn't flatter me.) My perfect Target Pride event outfit- -Skelton T-shirt (with a few alterations to turn it into a cropped tank.) -Checkered swim shorts - those Checkered socks - the flag collar (even though no Pan flag.) - the rainbow tote - my black boots
any clothing item, ESPECIALLY LGBTQ ONES, that has a saying makes me cringe sm. I asked my friend whos trans what he felt about this shirt i saw and he agreed that it was super corny and weird. it said and i quote "TRANS PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS EXIST" i... i want to cry rn. edit; i didnt know it would be in the video💀 oopsies, different opinions ig
Last year I bought a tote bag from target that says "busy thinking about girls" like that t shirt and now I feel like a bad gay. I know it originates from rainbow capitalism but I use it to not-so-subtly signal that I'm queer (I'm very straight looking)
You’re not a bad gay!! You’re allowed to represent however you’d like and you’ve gotten good use out of your purchase! Rainbow capitalism is the main way to get any merch representation, so it makes sense to want to buy it. Keep the bag! And buy whatever items you like and will use!
As a millennial myself, I always find myself thinking the things people keep calling millennial humor are more like gen-x humor lol but its possibly just bc I'm at the younger end of the generation so people I see making those jokes are older than me but just older millennials.
Nah as someone in the middle of the pack with millennials, gonna hard agree on the "what about this is millennials???". Frankly a lot of the comments gen x was on the young side for 😂
