Thanks mate. Looked like one of those days where you go out excited and come back with not much at all. Nice to see anyway, and I look forward to the rest of the trip.

Yeah I was very keen to get some good recordings but a bit too busy. Going to have to stick to early morning sessions I think to avoid the heat and the crowd

I’ve just bought a Tascam X6 to do field recordings and mostly improve the sound on my Camino de Santiago videos. Your explainers are enlightening, thanks! oh and enjoy 🇦🇺

What would help me, is understanding the very basics of outdoor recording set up options. What do I mean? I regularly record out doors, I never know when something is going to happen, by that I mean if an animal is going to make a sound in front of the camera or people in the jeep I am travelling with make a comment. So a single directional mic doesn't pick up the other sounds. You talk about a recorder with multi channels as if we all understand what these are and how it works. Sorry mate, it needs to be very basic for me as I start the journey to try and improve how I capture the sound better. I currently have to try and increase the volume of sounds during editing, so that sound behind the directional mic is to be heard in the video. My question is, can I use this multi recorder to capture a number of sound tracks - First what I am filming with my directional mic. Second what the occupants around me have to say as another channel and 3rd a mic connected to me, so comments I make are captured along side the video shots. It would be great if all the recorded sounds go on and off with my camera. My fear is having miles of sounds that I need to go through and find when I want to match to my video shot when editing. Editing is time consuming enough without adding even more complication. PS I love your openness of how you share what you are doing. Keep doing what you are doing, no shouting at the camera, no razmataz of terrible music, keep it simple and honest.

Heya, thanks very much for the message. If I understand correctly you're trying to record all of the different audio sources in time with the footage you're recording on your camera. Yes this is possible to have 3 or more audio tracks recording different sources at once. For synchronization you could look into getting a cable to set-up timecode with your recorder (search timecode setup with camera on RU-vid). To also make syncing video and audio up I use davinci resolve and Premiere Pro for my video editing. They both have great 'auto align' for the audio clips. So as long as your camera is recording audio too it'll sync with the audio from your recorder. Hopefully I have answered your question 😁. Let me know if any of that made sense haha

@@rarefindssound I feel I have hit the jack pot with your response. For the first time I feel I am starting to get where I need to, with my sound recording. My camera is a Lumix Panasonic DMC-FZ330. I use a Rode VideoMic Pro (wind noise is an issue, I saw some clips yesterday that might me help reduce this with different mics and set ups). I use Davinci Resole to edit. I would add I am a basic editor using Davinci Resolve on learning what I think I need to know to edit my tracks. So you telling me about 'auto align' for the audio clips is taking me in to a whole new area of knowledge. So my understanding of what you have said, in simple terms is; if I purchased a separate audio recorder, I would need to work out how to get a cable set-up time code with this recorder (I will need to try and find a video on google showing me this, as it is way above my current knowledge levels), then down load audio and my video clips to a storage device after each days shoot. I can then combine the two when editing. I will now need to look to see if I can find any videos on this on You Tube - would you do one? It might be of interest to more people than just myself. Once I have this knowledge I would then start on a journey of how to set it all up so I can record the sounds in say, a jeep in India, to capture the in vehicle comments and sounds, while the camera is pointing at the subject. Thank you for your reply, I feel I can now start a journey to the next knowledge level. Brilliant.

No worries! Unfortunately I only have my GoPro and my Audio Recorder on me (I am currently travelling) so can't show the cable timecode. But I could do a short video on workflow and the 'auto align' in davinci as I use this for my videos on this channel. In simple terms I think the workflow that you would like to do is similar to what I currently do in my videos. I'll try and sort out a video of my workflow and post it on here 😁

@@rarefindssound Brilliant. I am sure there are a whole pile of people who make videos out door as you and I do. Loads like me who want to get their sound better, but lack the knowledge. No hurry, can't wait to see it. As an aside. I see you mention a GoPro and audio recorder. I use my mobile phone on a Zhiyun SMO4 gimble. It allows for unobtrusive videoing, it is very simple to use, in that it securely holds my mobile phone, so I walk carrying it in my hand, freely. I clip it on when I want to video. Issues again is wind noise. Enjoy your travels. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.
