Wow, thanks for this! You saved the day. All of the sudden the venue owner decided to throw one of these in to run the sound and I got asked to come in and run a show. This helped me hit the ground running.

I'll put it like this, for most bands and musicians the recording console is the least of their problems. Give me a great song and some great musicians and I'll be delighted to record it on just about anything. TEAC/Tascam made some good equipment and it will most certainly not stand in the way of real talent.

This board is so gas, I use it at the studio I engineer at. Ours recently broke but we're working on fixing it lol.

Nice Video. Thanks a lot. Can you show VCA Automation in a quick video and how you recall it and how the computer works?

Loved my 3700. It still lights up for automation, but it stopped bringing in any audio signals on any and all channels. Power supply voltages and fuses looked ok, that was the end of my troubleshooting expertise! Hard to find someone that can work on these here in Texas.

Oh that's a strange one! I haven't seen this kind of issue before. The channel strips are in blocks of four so I'd expect to see maybe a block effected but not all the channels. It could be an issue with the master section, however there would still be input showing on the meter bridge.. just no audio output. When you first power up the desk do the meters flicker?
@ProgRockKeys
@ProgRockKeys 3 года назад
@@guerrillastudiosmanchester yes, and I hear what sounds like a loud click, my attention is drawn to channel strips 9-12, that general area. I wondered if I should try to remove it, see if it’s pulling everything down. Yes, I tried just about every channel, nothing on the meter bridge coming in. I have it leaning up against the wall, unfortunately these are not worth much these days, even when working.

@@ProgRockKeys We're you using the tape returns on the back of the console at all?

@@guerrillastudiosmanchester yes.
@guerrillastudiosmanchester
@guerrillastudiosmanchester 3 года назад
@@ProgRockKeys that's really got me stumped. The click and meter flicker is normal. It could be as simple as the flip and monitor buttons are in the wrong configuration as this can prevent a signal from coming in and/or showing on the meters depending on how all your inputs and returns are routed. If an input source is showing on the meters but you can't hear it, then I'd investigate the master section. But if there's nothing on the meters then the master section is probably fine there's just no input reaching the channel or the channel is dead, but for this to occur on all 32 simultaneously, that's weird. I wish I was local to you otherwise I'd happily come take a look.

Hello! Would it be possible to do a setup video, and also, could you please tell me what tape recorder model is that? if it's not too troublesome to do :)

Hi Sure thing, the tape machine is a Tascam MSR16 and I think there is a setup video on here somewhere. I remember doing one when we moved studios.

Nice!!! My first console wasn’t that model but it was pretty similar... I always want to get again a Tascam, but I am afraid of noise, I am using a summing mixer, which is a fantastic SPL DreamMix model, but I miss the whole mixing experience with a console. Du you know if anyone is doing mods or sell mods kits for the tascam consoles?
@guerrillastudiosmanchester
@guerrillastudiosmanchester 3 года назад
We've eliminated noise by going entirely analog during the recording and mixing process. Noise will likely be an issue when combining analog consoles with digital interfaces due to ground loop interference coming through all the TS connectors. There's forums with mod ideas but its best to use them as intended and record to tape. We've binned our digital interface entirely now.

i've read that the pre's and eq are nothing special!....is that true??...i want a console like this!...is the automation a pain on a modern context like an Interface ( s ) ( UA Apollo ( s ) )and an Imac??...cheers dude!
@guerrillastudiosmanchester
@guerrillastudiosmanchester 3 года назад
The pre's are warm and the EQ's while basic sound clean and get the job done. Automation shouldn't be a problem in a modern context, however it is likely you will encounter ground loop interference when using consoles like this with digital interfaces. If you're looking to improve digital recordings I'd skip the idea of a console and just go with some top end mic pre's, or do what we did and throw out the digital interface and go fully analog \m/
