When I was a Girl Scout we called Samoas Caramel Delights. Then my last year they switched it to Samoas. Also, one of my favorites was the lemon sandwich cookies, I forgot what they were called. And they also had these vanilla cookies dipped in a lemon creme or white chocolate on the bottom - I think they called them Lemonades. Part of me misses being a Girl Scout :(

emmymadeinjapan There are two different bakeries that are authorized to make the Girl Scout cookies. Depending on which bakery provides the cookies to your area, you will see some variations in the cookie names and also the cookies themselves. I personally prefer the Samoas and Tagalongs to the Caramel Delites and Peanut Butter Patties.

As a Girl Guide leader in the UK I can vouch for the incredible work the "world association of girl guides and girl scouts" does for girls all around the world. The cookies are a fantastic way for the girls in the USA to not only fundraise in order to keep the organisation accessible to girls of all backgrounds and support all members but also to give the girls good life skills and understanding of business on a small scale at least :-) I'm a leader for the girls aged 10-14 and then 14 - 26, I also help occasionally with a group of girls aged 7 - 10, being able to offer them all the opportunities we do is life changing not only for them but us as leaders, l first became a leader at 14, the girls I used to help with are now coming up to being adults and seeing them grow in confidence and become amazing young women is worth it. They always talk fondly of the memories they make, Love it!

I'm not sure if it's the same in America, but in the UK with our Girl Scouts, which are called girl guides, there is a group for old women who were previously in the girl guides are called the trefoil guild. Hence the name Trefoil, for the cookies, I think. I wish they did girl guide cookies here in the UK but it just isn't a thing.

@jenbug1988
@jenbug1988 9 лет назад
ItsJustGabi Close, Girl Guides were started in 1910 in the UK (trefoil Guild came later as an option for older Guiding members of those not associated with helping as a leader directly with a unit but wanted to help so to fundrase and support as a whole, trefoil guild still exists for women 18+) A group of girls went along to a scout camp and demanded something for the girls so baden powell felt he had to listen and so his sister agnes baden powell started Girl Guides, later Baden Powells wife Olave would take over the organisation. This was slowly taken abroad across the next few years and the organisation was taken to the USA but called Girl Scouts. In the UK we have never really taken up on the cookies, some groups used to sell cookies at Christmas back in the 90's but it was never an official Guiding thing just something advertised through Guiding and was through a third party company they were never official girl guiding cookies so to speak. I'm a Guide, Senior Section and Brownie leader :-) The above history comes from being PR trained in 2010 during our centenary heard the history of Guiding so many times during that one year haha

I don't know if anyone answered this yet, but the money goes to multiple places. Most goes to a troop account which they can use for trips or supplies or other fun stuff. A portion goes to the origanization itself, allowing them to give poorer families a reduced price for camp (i would never have gone to camp as a kid if it wasnt for that and im so grateful that i got that opportunity) and keep the camps and centers running. A portion also gets donated to charaties and other organizations. I always encourage people to buy (if they can afford to) even if they don't like them because they can donate the cookies and still have their money go to a great cause. Also girlscouts are so LGBT and disabled inclusive its great and everyone should support them. I'm sorry for such a long comment but ugh I just have so many feelings about girlscouts

Ashley Weill don't worry, they haven't been replaced. the girl scouts use two different bakers to supply the entire country. the troop emmy's cookies came from were made by the original baker (thus, they have the original names like samoas and tagalongs instead of caramel delites and peanut butter patties). the secondary baker makes the lemonades while the original makes the savannah smiles for their lemon cookie. which cookies are offered just depends on where you live.

In New Zealand we have Girl Guides which I believe are the same as Girl Scouts (I have never been one) They also sell cookies but I don't think they have different flavours. There are plain Vanilla ones and ones with Vanilla and a thin layer of chocolate on the bottom.

My all time favorite Girl Scout cookie has to be the Lemonades, followed closely by Thanks-a-lots. My art teacher in High school had a daughter who sold them all the time, It was a great time in my cookie eating life.

I was a Girl Scout for 12 years. I can remember when I first started selling cookies, they were $2 a box. Now they're $4 a box.

Girl Scouts were actually founded in 1912 in Georgia by Juliette Gordon Low and established in 1915 lol I was a Girl Scout for 14 years and they retold us all the history every year and tested us twice a year at competitions

Hubby's favorite is also Thin Mints. He even makes a "Dirty Girl Scout" drink with Peppermint Schnapps and Chocolate liqueur! He'll eat the Tagalongs and Do Si Dos as well. My favorites are Samoas (called that because you always want "some more"!) and Do Si Dos with milk. Trefoils with milk are also heavenly. At Sprouts today I saw Bigelow "Girl Scout Cookie" tea! They had chocolate mint and coconut caramel flavors. And of course there is GSC ice cream as well!

Wish you could have tried Lemonades, the cookies in the southern region! BTW, as a Girl Scout that is super cool you bought them all! That makes me so happy when people get them all!

It's funny because in Missouri our cookies look different and some have different names like the Tag-a-longs (or it might have been the Dosidos) are just called something along the lines of Peanut Butter Patties (or something I can't remember) and look a little different. Our Thin Mints are COMPLETELY different too! In Missouri they're very thin and are packaged in a foil wrapping. The chocolate is so thin that you can see the cookie underneath and they're SO good

Adriane King this is because the cookies are produced by two different baker companies, ABC and Little Brownie Bakers.

My favorite flavor is lemon or vanillia cookies. I even have a storage where I hold 20 boxes of each for if I get the cookie craze.
