Tatting - Working with One Shuttle, Adding New Thread

When working with only one shuttle and bare threads, it may seem more difficult to add new thread when you run out. Here is how I do it.
The thread I used is DMC Cébélia no. 30 in shade 992.

I greatly appreciate this tutorial. I have tried Hens and Chicks, too. I had to give up when it came to the thread bar. Then I tried your pattern and again, there was the thread bar. Thank you so much for showing me how to add a new thread.

@@11Frivole some edging that’s a hen and chicks. It’s olive colored and I’m hoping to sew it onto the bottom of an old black tank top. I’ve never made this long of a tatted project so this was really helpful!

Hi Maria, thank you very much for your comment. I was planning on making a video about this edging so I'll try to get it done before the end of the week! I wanted first to modify the corner I used and design a better one. I'll try to get it done as quickly as possible.

You are amazing to do this for me. I have a tough time sitting at an airport (when I rarely fly) with nothing to do. I take a pill bottle full of homemade shuttles, with size 10 thread on them, in case anyone wants to learn.

@@manishagahlot9601 Hi Manisha, you would just use the picots to join another length. If you look at this particular pattern for example, you could join two lengths in mirror image and use the picots that I'm joining to the hanky to join to another length instead. Many edgings are made in more than one round, so it's the same idea really. :-)

@@manishagahlot9601 Hello Manisha, yes you are correct, you join when making the second length and match picots from both sides so that the two lengths are mirrored but you could also join them one on top of the other too or tip to tip, it depends on the look you are trying to achieve. I'm not sure what you mean by your second question, an additional ring required between two rings?

My tatting lace doesn’t sit that straight and well. It curves up and down.

Hello, this might be due to the way you pull your rings and the lengths of your bare threads perhaps? You have to try to be as consistent as possible so that all elements are the same size as other matching ones. It's a bit hard for me to say without actually seeing your tatting. :-)
