One of my 6 Taurus TX-22 Magazines wasn't quite working correctly. The follower was 'sticking' and causing rounds not to feed smoothly. This is what I did to fix it.

Thank you for the tip.. One of my two TX22 mags was 'sticky' right out of the box. I sprayed it, and worked the mag guide up and down. Seems to have done the trick.

I’m having the same issue right out of the box. I lubed the mags which does seem to help a bit. I’m going to pull them apart and give them a thorough cleaning. Compared to the Smith and Wesson victory mags and my Ruger SR 22 it’s a night and day difference in how easily the follower moves in those bags. This seems to be the weak link of this pistol. Wish somebody would just come out with a metal mag LOL. Thank you and those in the comments for verifying my theory of the magazine being the issue.

Thanks for the info. Recently purchased Taurus tx22 and am fairly new to shooting semi-auto firearms. Haven't put many rounds through it yet, but have already experienced a few failures to feed, exactly as you described. I was starting to think I wasn't loading the magazine properly.

I just shot my new TX22 last weekend and was having the same issues. I thought I was gonna have to send it back to the factory. I have ordered some of this mag slick and a magazine brush to clean my mags and then will revisit this. Thanks for the video. Kind of sad it doesn't work right out of the box though.

Did another modification to my 16 Round magazines today. My magazines are stamped with a #5 on the side. Two years ago with my first Taurus TX-22, I had magazines stamped #1&2. Had same jamming issues and never solved jamming with those two. I don't know what the numbers are but they could be edition series numbers. So I dissembled my first #5 magazine and shortened the bottom end of the coiled spring buy 3 loops..about 1 inch. My thoughts were the spring is currently too strong and feeding the round into the feeding area too fast. Reassembled the same modified magazine and loaded it with 16 rounds of CCI mini-mag. Tested it. It works flawlessly! Modified the other mag the same way. Tested it. It works flawlessly! Something else to consider...I'm happy with this mod.

I have tried every fix on youtube and still had problems with certain types of ammo. He is correct on hollow points being most problematic although round nose wasnt perfect either. I started out by polishing the ramp. Still problems. Then lightly chamfered the edge of the chamber all the way around and polished the edge. Still had problems. I bought special brushes to clean the mags. This helped a lot but still some problems. I noticed that malfunctions did exactly what G&P said with the round hitting the front of the mag and the slide hitting it and bending it while putting a notch in the lead. This happened mostly in the first 3 rounds. I studied the magazines and the rounds in the mag and how they were positioned, especially at the top 3 rounds. The rims on the rim fires would stick in the top edge of the little slots at the top of the mags. I took a dremel small metal cutting tip, loaded it in the dremel extension tip without the extension cable being in the actual dremel. I then inserted it into the top inside slots on both sides, and spun it by hand to take that edge off to taper it for the round case lip. I cleaned it with the brushes and put them back together. I have 5 modified and 5 not. The nots would still malfunction every now and then. The modified ones NEVER malfunctioned and I shot them as fast as I could pull the trigger with every kind of ammo I had. If it was going to malfunction it was usually when shooting fast. Maybe one of you can tell me what is the purpose of those slots? Another thought I had was to put a piece of tape on the inside over the slots and fill the slots from the outside with plastic epoxy. Until the chamfer malfunctions Im going to stick with that for now. The slots might be there to help with the double stacking and feeding. Sorry for the longwinded post.

I'd have taken the magazine end plate off. Cleaned the inside. Then take a small flat file and worked the inside some. Could be a burr or some dirt in there. I've been reading that there are two ways to load these magazines. Right and wrong. The wrong way causes feeding problems as you describe. I believe the owners manual describes the correct way to feed the magazine.

How you load the mags. was what finally worked for me. Thank you shoot-n-scoot for that info.

I wonder if it would help to use your same procedure and use some kind of buffing compound or lapping compound inside the magazine to speed up the process? Then of course you would need to take it apart and carefully clean it. I am getting the TX22 in a few days (on hold at the gun shop) and looking for info before I start using it. While you have your dremel out you could buff up the feed ramp on the barrel also- couldn't hurt. I almost bought a 3 round magazine extension but fortunately discovered that Tandemkross makes a 5 round extension. About twenty bucks for two of them- not too bad I thought. I have not tried them yet. Thanks for this video.

I did use my dremel to buff the feed ramp a little. I do that to most of my 22 pisols and rifles. I also put a 12 gauge barrel cleaning cotton swab stick in the dremel and ran it up and down inside the magazine with a bit of light buffing compound. Then I cleaned it thoroughly. I think it might have helped some.

@@gunsandpolitics5510 Good ideas. It's nice to have things that work optimum. Thanks One of my latest improvements is learning to strop my knife blades after sharpening. Easy to do and truly makes a difference.

I have noticed that a lot of .22 pistols on the market seem to have problems similar to this. I am not a Ruger fan boy lol but I have 2 Ruger .22 pistols a 2245 and a Hunter in stainless steel both are Mark 3 versions and I have never had any of these kinds of problems. I think I will stick with the Rugers. :)

I have a Ruger SR22. Used to be my favorite pistol until I got the Taurus. The Ruger mags don't have this specific problem I think for a couple reasons: 1. They are only 10 rounds. Too short to warp significantly. 2. They are made of steel. The Taurus mags are polymer and longer. I think the Taurus mags have a tendency to twist and bend, sometimes crimping in rounds in the middle and causing the follower to stick. The Ruger did have a bit of a problem getting the second round loaded and in battery (after shooting the first round already chambered.) I think the weight of nine cartridges caused just enough problems to make round number 2 a bit unreliable. I kind of got in the habit of loading 9 instead of 10 and the problem mostly went away.

Thank you for this. I was running Winchester SuperX (lead) through mine over the weekend and had probably 30 issues in 300 rounds. I kept noticing the rounds that were jammed in the magazines had blunted tips like you mentioned and had about 4 with gouges on them. I then ran some copper plated stuff and it seemed to feed better but still had several issues. Just as you said, when I had issues I noticed the ammo was nose-diving rather than pointing up properly. I'm going to work my mags the way you describe and see if I can get any improvement.

0Rockstar7 haven’t worked mine yet because I ordered 3 more mags from Taurus that were due to arrive 4/6 and haven’t shown up! I’m waiting so I can just exercise all of em at the same time.

Well, still no mags from Taurus so I haven’t exercised my originals. I did replace the recoil assembly with a stainless one from Lakeline and put about 200 rounds through the handgun with only 1 failure. Seems promising.

ahh skeet it can’t extract what it can’t reach so you did nothing to correct the original issues.

@@1OFGODSOWN Now with 5 mags, I numbered all of them. I only have 1 magazine that has consistently been problematic. I took it apart and used 1500 grit sand paper on the edges of the plastic insert and that seemed to fix my issues for good.

If you have a .22 caliber magazine brush I believe it would have been much easier.Whatever works for you.👍

Good luck getting any MagSlick. It can't even be shipped by USPS. (maybe UPS) And the only source I found that carried it was Brownells, and they were out of stock.

I have fired over 2000 rounds thru it and 0 failures to feed or cycle the action. I fired 1500+ before I even cleaned it. Two of my students bought these guns and they have the same results as I do. One did have a problem that I fixed by getting him to stop limp wresting All these guns work with any ammo we put in them .
@johnpindelski6558

I think it's the spring that's binding, not the follower. With the spring out, my mags all operated smoothly without any binding. Reinstalling the spring, paying attention to compressing it evenly, changed the feel of the mag 100% (i.e., no binding). I commented in more detail on your other TX22 magazine video.
@johnpindelski6558
@johnpindelski6558 3 года назад
Follow up: I shot over 1,000 rounds using all 6 of my magazines with zero FTF. I'm certain at this point that reinstalling the spring so it is aligned properly is the fix for the problem with these magazines.

Stop using the tabs on side of magazine. Use the mag loader the pistol came with and you will have no more feeding issues.
