All too well was my heartbreak song for the one and only heartbeat I’ve ever experienced and I can’t even relate to that song that much, but just the lyrics of the bridge get me so bad I can travel back in time and remember all too well, All too well IS THAT break up song for real.

All too well will always be one of her best songs of all time periodt. Wanna know a fun fact? The original all too well was 10 minutes long but taylor deiced to cut it off because a song cannot be that long. Fans have been asking for it but she told them that she lost the version of it “somewhere in the drawer😂😂😂” but years later from her latest live stream while looking through her old diaries, she found the original lyrics of All Too well and it was there all the time.

It was also the first song that Swift wrote for Red. Plus Taylor has said that the song was "the hardest to write on the album", saying: "“All Too Well” was difficult to write emotionally because it took her a really long time to filter through everything she wanted to put in the song without it being a 10 minute song, which you can’t put on an album. She wanted a story that could work in the form of a song and she called my co-writer Liz Rose and said, ‘Come over, we’ve gotta filter this down,’ and it took her a really long time to get it."

Some facts: All too well is one of the most vulnerable Taylor's song, not just because of the lyrics but also because of how she felt performing it in the red era. A lot of time she was visibly upset and she also cried during the tour. But on the rep tour she sang it a lot of times, and she said that we changed that song for her. That song was sadness and pain, but she saw us loving it for years and years and now everytime she sings it she doesn't think about the breakup, but she think about us.

I remember this performance all too well (lol). Fans were saying they want her to perform ATW, and then days before the Grammy's she teases that she's going to perform a really requested song. I lost my mind because she actually listened. What pissed me off though is that most people didn't even pay attention to her performance. Instead they just made fun of her head banging and it even became a meme for a while. I was so angry because her performance was overshadowed by people making fun of her. That's when I realized that her deep cuts will almost NEVER be appreciated by the general public and they should stay hidden to be discovered by the fans.

This performance still hits me like it’s the first time Im watching it. I can feel Taylor’s emotion coming though the screen. On top of that she sounded so amazing! I’ve never gone though what she has in that song but I can feel for her, cause damn she got lost in the performance and all the emotion. You can see her try to regain herself at the end.

Steven!!! You have to watch the ACTUAL Grammy performance, I believe this was her rehearsal which was released afterwards. The one from the Grammy’s that night was even more emotional, especially on that bridge. And her vocal was INCREDIBLE. Plus the look on her face at the end says in all. Seriously. Wow. I've never heard that opinion. I've always thought that the rehearsal is way more vulnerable & emotional. She seems way more put together & composed for the live performance. From the comments under each video & under people's reaction videos I was under the impression that was the opinion of her fandom. I equate it with the 1st time you hear an emotional song or see a sad movie you cry but the 2nd time it's easier to keep your composure.

Since you like both of the songs, i recommend thinking of "The Moment I Knew" as kind of the prologue to "All Too Well". Almost as if they are the same epic song, just split into part 1 and part 2. As if the disappointment and phone call she had in "The Moment I Knew" were the lead up to a lot of the break up feelings in "All Too Well". In TMIK she runs off crying to her friends and also he calls later to simply say "I'm sorry i couldn't make it" . In ATW she says the lines 'casually cruel in the name of being honest' and 'running scared', and to me, if you listen to the songs in order it tells a really emotional story that references itself. I would add "Begin Again" at the end of that listening order too tbh. Originally I thought the bits that were cut from "All Too Well" that would have made it 11 minutes were re-arranged into "The Moment I Knew" because it seemed like they were written to reference each other, but since Taylor is releasing the original lyrics to ATW soon I kind of doubt that my theory is true. It's still fun to listen to them this way to achieve maximum feels though.

"All Too Well" is the song you love but at the same time you're sad because it really happened and hurt her. I think saddest thing about the song is the fact that the girl who wrote the song was the girl who wrote "Mine" - "Love Story" and a lot of other happy songs.

All Too Well has always been my favorite song. I was going through something so similar with so many same moments that she explains in the song. I use to listen to it in my car so loud and just belting the lyrics out. It reminds me of a time where I was in love with a boy who chose to stop loving me. It reminds me of long drives in the car where he was looking at me, almost running a red light. It reminds me of fall. It is such a beautiful, heartbreaking, amazing song. 💜

i recommend you to watch her tour performances of i knew you were trouble (from the 1989 tour), we are never ever getting back together (from the 1989 tour), dancing with our hands tied (from the reputation tour) and even all too well acoustic (in the reputation tour), she really changes up the formats and the sounds of those songs from the original and it sounds so good

When you love an artist this much,it's natural to connect to their feelings and struggles. I remember i immediately teared up when i listened to delicate coz i felt Taylor's pain in every single word. I have only ever been able to connect on this level with a handful of artists. Honestly this song impacts me because I know Taylor was in such pain and the lyrics, while being very in-depth about her relationship, are so incredibly relatable even in platonic relationships. I cry because of my broken heart, not necessarily who broke it. It makes me so happy to see Taylor now play it smiling with a crowd of screaming fans. I heard that the first time Taylor started piecing it together was during Speak Now Tour rehearsals and the band was confused until they realized she was writing. She'd just gotten off the phone, if I remember correctly. Imagine being in so much pain that you just immediately start composing something. Incredible.

Not only was All Too Well originally 10-20 minutes long (fans argue over the time what ever) she first started writing it while on the Speak Now tour. Apparently when she came to one of the pre-show rehearsals, her and Jake had broken up and she busted in crying, went on to the rehearsal stage and either sat at the piano or picked up her guitar and started singing and processing the song. With tears in her eyes and her band by her side they joined in and free styled with her while she sang. They stopped the rehearsal so taylor could have her moment of grief. Andrea was there too apparently and recorded it. One of the lost tapes we might never see.

Oh THIS IS the ultimate!😭👏💗 Taylor has said this song took her the longest to write out of all of them bc of the emotions in it. (Not sure if that still remains the same today)

I also really love to watch is All Too Well during the At&t direvt tv now session from 2018. She explained of all the fans always screaming along with this song the loudest has helped her getting over it. And you really see it in that performance and I love that so much!

Thanks so much for this. I have seen several performances of this song but not this one. She never disappoints & I really like the piano version better than the acoustic guitar which she did in Reputation. You hit the nail on the head. In your rant- those feelings make the song what it is- a masterpiece! Can’t wait to see those originals in the diary scans with the new album. Who else would do that for her fans? Amazing!!!
