One thing to know about Taylor is that her voice has aged like fine wine. She was never going to have the vocal ability of Ariana or Adele, but her lyricism and storytelling is miles above the rest. I love all of her old stuff with my whole heart, but 10 years after this performance her vocal control and technicality is so much improved. It's been a joy hearing her voice change and get even stronger over the years. If you want a more recent live performance of this song, she performed the 10 Minute Version on SNL and it was fantastic.

@@michelle6337 Let's not forget, the American songwriter who got the Nobel Prize for literature was Bob Dylan.... not exactly a vocal virtuoso. Range and power are only two of a multitude of compelling vocal attributes. Taylor Swift has those to a lesser degree, but her lyrics, her expressive and stylistic skills and her innovative arrangements are truly second to none. She is an American treasure.

So, now that you’ve heard the standard version, you’re homework is to watch the short-film, which is basically a music video for the 10 minute version of the song. She both wrote it and directed it. It’s Taylor at her absolute best. (I’m sure Ally knows.)

Yes!! The short film and added lyrics are beyond amazing. There is so much more to this song than meets the eye. When you listen to this one take note of the red scarf and how she references the scarf in other videos as well. She has said that the red scarf is metaphor. I’d love to know a man’s perspective on what they think the red scarf represents.

Taylor has never gotten enough credit - until now. She was a teen when she came out. Everything about her was still maturing - songwriting, vocals, performance, looks, love life - and she had to do that in front of the world! She has grown into such a beautiful human. I feel like a proud mama 😂. I wish one of my kids were Swifties or I had a group of girlfriends who were Swifties. I would have love to have seen the Eras Tour. I haven’t even seen the movie 😢. If I win the lottery, I’ll find a way to get tickets to one of the shows she added in FL in the Spring! Sigh.

Good point. She is much more polished than when she first started. I can tell she worked HARD on her vocals, and her presence and presentation are outstanding. The vibrato on the end of her phrases is so warm, so honest. This is a great example of a singer half talking, half singing, which for Taylor is really effective at conveying the emotion. It isnt just about her vocal ability- its about what she is saying and HOW she emotes.

I wouldn't say this is her best performance ever because I believe this was when there was definitely still big feelings there. So emotional which is great but not technically her best. I suggest checking out the Grammy Museum. She does 3 songs, Out of the Woods, Blank Space and Wildest Dreams and they are all incredible, 2020 CMA Betty performance, NPR Tiny Desk and one of my personal favorites, We Are Never Getting Back Together rock very from 1989 Tour. I'm a huge fan of just Taylor and her guitar or piano.

You have to hear her song called Exile. A little hint/spoiler Her : "I gave so many signs" He: "didn’t even give a sign” It’s about how people can grow apart. A once loving and happy couple started to grow apart. The male part of the couple sings about how the female part didn’t even give a sign, while the female counterpart harmonizes about how she “Gave so many signs”. Its kinda heartbreaking but it harmonizes so much. Perfection harmonizes of growing apart. [Sorry for my english] I like your context👍

Taylor is so successful and very well deserved because not only is she a singer, great performer. She plays both guitar and the piano. Doesn’t lip Sync, but her writing is so exceptional like a master poet. And people say she writes about her exes, but she doesn’t. She writes about her experiences and her exes happens to be a part of her experiences. And it just shows that we all have similar experiences at some point in our lives which is why it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from or how you look like. Taylor can make you a fan with her writing. We are more alike than we are different. And Taylor unintentionally proves that. I love her for who she represents. A lot of hard work and a lot of love.

You are wrong about best video of all time. Its the 10 minute version movie/video that she wrote, directed, edited, and performed in - and its the full, uncut song. It is even filmed in 35mm real old school film. No one does that anymore because it take a seasoned film wizard to pull it off - and it costs a fortune. She absolutely cleaned up at the award shows with this masterpiece. And word is it is being fast tracked for an Academy Award for Best Short Film. Her genius and talent know no bounds. All hail.

Thata crazy. Must not be good musicians. There is nothing to hate abt /on her. And on top of her own being, she has done so much for other musicians- taught them how to take back their works, fought for pay for streaming, spoke out against sexual harassment of women by men in powerful positions. She is a woman for women and the people and her talent is far superior to a mere vocalist. Millions of people can sing, but they can't write music or lyrics like this

And yeah... she gets emotional while performing but she really puts that emotion into her delivery. that's why I prefer watching her live performance videos over listening to studio recorded albums. she has a way of connecting with everyone watching on a level that says she feels what we do and that she appreciates her fans, no matter how famous she's gotten, just as much as she did when she played her first show

My sister recommended a documentary that I watched and was very impressed by her personality and how she makes her songs. So I have checked out some lyrics and was impressed in a big way. She is a great writer. She writes about her life in short bursts called songs. Her work can be seen as an extended novel of delight, hope, heartbreak, and learning. She is brilliant. She refuses to appear anywhere if she can’t sing live, even when it’s for ‘production purposes’, as far as she’s concerned she’s a singer so she will sing. This particular song wasn’t just marvellous at the time, but every single time she sings it, it’s as if she’s hurting all over again, she’s always emotional singing this, it’s why and how she gets to people and now she’s got to you❣️

The 10 minute version shows so many amazingly phrased feelings… “They say all's well that ends well, but I'm in a new hell every time you Double-Cross my mind” “And did the twin flame bruise paint you blue?” “The idea you had of me, who was she? A never-needy, ever-lovely jewel whose shine reflects on you” And my favorite that gives me chills every single time… “And you call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of bein' honest. I'm a crumpled-up piece of paper lyin' here 'Cause I remember it all, all, all”

This is like the second time I've heard this song and it's absolutely beautiful. WOW I love Taylor Swift. I'm 49 and have just recently become a Swiftie, I've been doing a lot of research about her. SHE'S AN Amazing Woman. Absolutely phenomenal. It's 2024 and she has a new album coming out in April. I can't wait!!! I love you Tay Tay. 💜💜. I'm actually from TENNESSEE too and I'm going to listen to this again right now. 💜💜

I dont understand how a lot of people still say she can't sing. She sounds so amazing live. She knows how to tell a story with her voice.

Takes me back to how much she used to flip her hair playing the guitar in her country days. But she can write the heck out of a song.

Why people even ask this question? Of course she sings in live , of course Lady Taylor Swift is truly talented, she is a megastar because she works really more hard than anyone else, people know than see wrote more than 250 songs? A part in collaboration, but one hundred by herself ? It's phenomenal because a lot of songwriter at her age has even not wrote the half than she did! Lady Taylor Swift is clearly a prodigy ! A gifted woman, like Mister Leonardo Da Vinci was at his Era! She is a mastermind truly amazing

The most important thing to know about Taylor is that she is an awesome human being ! She is also a philanthropist, Time Magazine Person of the Year 2023, and now a Billionaire after the success of her ERAS Tour!❤️❤️❤️❤️

What I am amazed about is that in my day, I’m 67, the time of a song was at 3 minutes max. There were bands that did longer songs, YES being one of those long song bands. Yes’s songs were mostly all over 5 minutes, many pushing twenty minutes. She is quite the performer!!

This is an amazing performance but she's for sure better now than she was back then. I love this on the guitar even more, especially the 10 minute version

comments of another video actually said jake gyllenhaal was in the crowd. not 100% sure if its true, but it would explain the emotion and passion in this performance

It's not just about heartbreak, it's also about being pissed off when someone doesn't recognize the significance of what you went through together. It attempts to diminish your experience by virtue of diminishing theirs, when you know damn well what happened for both of you, you know "all too well." It's taking a stand to hold the truth, despite the pain of someone not acknowledging it's sacredness and meaning. This is so brave.

It's not really even that she remembers it fondly. That's pretty generous; he was a gaslighting grownass (29) jerk dating a 20 year old who was in over her head. Nine years is a LOT when she just stopped being a literal child. He told her "sorry, the age difference is the problem g'byyyye" even though he knew how old she was AND he continues to date way younger. My theory is that the "I remember it all too well" is reclaiming all the memories he tried to gaslight her out of. And it all is so unfair that it pisses her off as much as anything.
