Are you looking for a good stainless steel water bottle & a cup you can use over the fire as your cooking pot?
There are quite a few out there and in this video I look at what The Bushcraft Store has to offer.
Is it any good and how does it compare to its competitors?
What this video to find out.
Enjoy

Another excellent comment on a piece of gear. It makes such a pleasant change to listen to reviews done by someone who has clearly used the items. Keep up up the great videos Neil. Thank-you for you time and effort.

I sold my Pathfinder cup not long after I bought it, steel is thin, handles are too small, lid fits too tight. I replaced it with the TBS one, and it’s fantastic.

I use a TBS cooking pot/cup as shown, I then bought a metal cup from the Decathlon sports shop [about £4] , it fit's perfectly in to the TBS pot, no rattling and no jamming and makes for a great combo.

Greencraft we are very happy with the manufacturer it’s just that this year all manufacturing and supply has been delayed by lockdowns due to COVID-19 so a little patience has been the order of the day for us and many other companies. We have more product on the way but this year has been very difficult to manoeuvre around the very disruptive situation worldwide.

I purchased the version with the double wall bottle. 750ml capacity. I like something that will keep my water cool in warm weather & if it's cold, I prefer being able to carry hot or warm water with me. Makes preparing a hot drink etc much more convenient.

I agree with you about the SS water bottle. About the SS cup, I prefer my cups without bail.. I had the Billycan cup for many years, it's collecting dust. After the bail clips shredded my water bottle bag, I never used it again. You should look into the GSI glacier cup. I prefer the Pathfinder Military Canteen cooking set any time. It's my "never-leave -home-without-it" water bottle

Nice review Neil, thanks for sharing. I've had my eye on that mug for a while and heard lots of good things about it. I've been using the pathfinder cup (the round one) for nigh on four years now. It's been ok, my one and only gripe has been the butterfly handles as they're quite small. They've released a mk3 version now which rectifies that issue but as you point out the prices have gone up and as a consequence the number of UK companies selling their stuff seems to be dwindling. All this makes the TBS version even more appealing and it seems to have some neat features 👍

Hi, thanks for posting. I nearly purchased one but after reading reviews I decided not too. Instead ordered a Joe Robinet one. I’ve got the pathfinder system. It’s good but is starting to rust on the inside by the seams. There is also a lip on pathfinder one that is impossible to clean so bacteria will build up. The design on the cup is bad because in the heat it’ll loosen so when you come to move it it does and will fold in this covering the fire or even worse you in boiling water.

Thank you for the recommendation. I was unaware of its existence. I had been considering the Pathfinder bottle/cup for quite a while, but .. well, I didn't really fancy it, especially not that extra fish mouth spreader for hanging it. Not only does this one fill the spot nicely, but it actually cost me slightly less (Royal Mail from the UK included) than a locally sourced Pathfinder set. Now I just need to see if I can tweak your bottle pouch design a little for it (belt loop). Plus the fabric seems to be a bit difficult to find here.

I like these, been using them since early last year. The only con for me is that the mouth of the bottle is a bit sharp and if in a vehicle which goes over a bump while taking a drink it can hurt. Thanks Neil 👍🙂

i have both sets and i like them a lot but the TBS one edges it for me the bail handle is a bonus and it's also bit more robust slightly thicker gauge steel i think, I can be a bit rough on kit and I've had to reshape the pathfinder mug a couple of times. atb Colin

I really like the water bottle - the lid strap is strong enough to be used as a carry handle (so far). I have boiled water in it using the spreader to heat from the bottom (could have unboiled water at the bottom if heating from the side). The cup, however, I gave to one of my daughters and I continue with my BCB Crusader with homemade lid. I found that the TBS lid is loose fitting and falls off too easily (could have made a lid which wraps over the lip (although this can collect smoke/soot) or a lid which sits deeper into cup - either would have been better); and the handle is about two and a half fingers big (two fingers not enough grip, but three fingers is too cramped) - I don't have particularly fat fingers, I thought. It seemed, Neil, that you had the same issue but didn't seem to mind - just not for me. Good review - just wish the cup lid fitted better and the handle was a bit wider. Thanks for the videos, Neil - always enjoy watching them.

Personally I use a NATO or a CRUSADER cup depending on bottles I am taking. Summer, I use a cup exact same as this no markings, and its titanium. Lighter than alloy stonger than steel. Ebay tomosho brand or something. I have flogged all 3 lots of use.

I’ve been after the TBS system for a while, out of stock everywhere I look. I do like the Crusader BCB system but I want the TBS because my firebox stove has an insert panel specially for that round size which makes it extremely efficient. It’s also nice that you can hang the TBS over a fire to vary the simmer.

Pauloutdoors Never thought of of the Corona effect. It would be great, but as the cost of living is less, and their workers will work for less, it’s not viable, unfortunately!

The graduation marks are easily added to any pot with a hammer and punch, 250ml and 500ml usually suffice. Do you really think that there is a great benefit in the bottle fitting inside the pot bearing in mind that you have to put your tea, coffee, sugar, meth stove etc somewhere, why not carry them in your pot and forget about the nesting aspect? @ozdavemcgee2079
@ozdavemcgee2079 3 года назад
I use Nalgenes. Plastic and the very expensive stainledd jobby lol. I paired it with a tomoshoo, or thereabouts spelling, titanium cup/ billy. It was like 40 AUD on ebay. Wont rust light as. If weights an issue you can go that way. Handels folding on side. Handle on top to use as a billy. N8cely nests or holds a gas canister and a cheap fold down gas stove. Identical to one in vid except it has a niche in lid handle so it sits up at 90% if you choose. Ive fl9gged mine over 2 yrs its black from being in coals literally a good 100hr boiling still AOK

I can see were this set looks maybe looks comparable (could be better) cup or construction could be maybe, Except Dave Canterburys products are very high quality tested proven also.. your not just paying for a bottel and cup with lid set with Daves, you also get more with the pathfinder set, like (stainless steel stove stand) section to use for fire, alcohol stove, or even soild fuel, coals, so on. That stand/stove, also fits together in the kit, nests with the cup and bottel as well as the fish mouth spreader. So yeah (you pay a little more), but you also (get alot more for the price) with that pathfinder set. If you don't need all that extra, then this would be a good choice potentially, I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just a realist you get less for less money. Good video tho take care.
@greencraft4783
@greencraft4783 4 месяца назад
I have used both. The TBS cup IMHO is better quality, the steel feels a little heavier, the numbers are properly stamped into the metal. You can buy it as a set with the stove too. I think you are paying for the name to a degree too as most of this stuff is probably churned out in the same place.

"Out of stock" I noticed that lot's of things are out of stock everywhere. I read the TBS about us and it states it's made in een european controlled work inviroment, wich could be in China. I don't like that vague way of putting things. Just the other day i bought Jack Wolfskin shoes (German) because my last pair lasted me a long time and were made in Viëtnam. Viëtnamese are hard working precise folk, i know from an ex girlfriend. ;)) But my new pair was made in China and they didn't fit me well so i returned them and mailed Jack Wolfskin if all their production had moved to china and still didn't get an answer. Says enough. No china crap for me. Ow and you can only tell if stuff is good after a few years of serious usage.
@ptouchpaul

Hi Romin, unfortunately we will see a lot of things "out of stock" for a long time due to the volume of product made in China. I think we would be gobsmacked if we look at how much bushcraft equipment is actually made in china! It's not just the manufacturing plants that shut down themselves with Covid, its the raw material suppliers too.
@Romin.777
@Romin.777 3 года назад
@@ptouchpaul I think you are spot on about that. I just go the fysical stores than, or buy nothing at all. I really didn't need it, just wanted to know how much it would cost. My new way of thinking is it chinese and do i really need it? Haha returned as much as i bought recently. :)) Better spend my cash on usefull things. :))

It says 95mm on the website but i have already bought a few cups and cans that have claimed to be 95 and the 95 is the edge of the outer lip. Nightmare. I have used one that was leant to me, but don't own one. The grade of steel and the etching are the same as the Pathfinder canteen (which I own and have used a lot). The bottles are almost the same, the bushcraft store cup is made of slightly better materials (i think). If you have the Pathfinder version and you are happy with it, that's good, the video is aimed at a person who is looking for a new one.
