It can even be a difference of opinion!!! They are so intimidated by us they have zero tolerance for an opinion..That's why some of us walk on eggshells around them and get called uncle Tom's..It's a terrible situation we've been in
Yes, after Kyle left everything changed. I know the executives should still be saying, we ____ up this time to themselves. We know that because when Obie and Sinclair got married, who did they call, Kyle.
He was laughing right when I saw your comment...I enjoyed it too, especially frm the point he was making...The obstacles he endured & became secure w/ in himself was empowering...
When he left, I lost interest in the show too. No-one could replace Kyle in my mind. He was just toooooo smooth. Basically, he was in a class by himself. I loved the brother and enjoyed watching him on the show.
Indeed, his voice over role as Kratos for the God of War series was his cash cow. I honestly couldn't see anyone else as the voice for Kratos other than him; that's what made the character who he is. So I'm happy for the brother TC.
He's speaking with such conviction. You can tell by his tone and body language that it's true, that it struck a chord with him and he learned from it. It's very unfortunate because he's talented
Erika Alexander(Maxine Shaw) said some of the same things in her Breakfast Club Interview. She said their Craft Services were weak.(in a respectful way of course. ) She said the cast wasnt treated as legendary as *We see them. I totally believe him, even in regular everyday life if you speak up on the job as a black person that can cost you your rep, and future employment.
@@PiSceS-3884 omg I like how you think! back when I saw it I thought it was cool because I was assuming it was a black group of writers creating relatable storylines for those of us that have had to navigate corporate spaces. I could see how that would be a BIG MOVE to challenge him. wow.
@@Faaade_ Cause they always testing us. We resist the Devil, he Flees, (for a Season) then comes back harder and Slicker in a Covert way. But we're some Intuitive Individuals, in addition to being Talented. "Divide and Conquer" Is the only way they can get the results they Desiree, through manipulation and Lies. Very Similar to a Serpent in the Garden. Right is wrong and Wrong is Right. I'm starting to believe there is a fundamental difference in Morals ! and thank You, my Soul Sistah ! I Love the Light in You ❣️
Yesterday I watched "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" so it's weird that today I watched this, read T.C. Carson's wikipedia page and realized that Star Wars has given him a lot of work. We haven't been seeing him because he's a voice actor for animated productions and video games. I'm glad he found another way to make money in the business, he's very resilient but still missed on screen.
Difficult to work with in translation; “ you’re not bucking down like we want you to, you’re speaking your mind and well we don’t like it.” It seems like if you’re confident in any shape of way you’re immediately labeled difficult and it’s a dang shame that we lost a chance to experience this mans work further in Hollywood, I wish he would do his own podcast I will pay to listen.
Sounds like the very thing that Monique was talking about. When it comes to black ppl, we aren't allowed to stand up for ourselves. The problem is also that other blk ppl perpetuate this " difficult to work with" narrative... We need to support each other rather than jumping on the bandwagon.
@@mikeredd2126 This applies to our every day life!!!! Just walking down the street or driving if you ask the police any questions about there issue with you your being difficult and subject to brutality or death
@@mikeredd2126 Absolutely, it happens in every industry because its typically run by people that don't look like us. A lot of times, their mentality is, you have a place, and you should stay in it.
@Jay Johnson He was probably just paraphrasing what the guy said to him. He is classy like that, I'm sure the tone and words that were said were very disrespectful for him to act in such a way.
@Jay Johnson I agree with your sentiment. But, I also understand where he may have been emotionally. You ever have that period of your life where 1 more thing that is undeserved, unfair, and just wrong is the last straw? People can only play the game until they decide no more.
I personally feel that whoever was running the show sought to push it off the air. They didn't want a black show on tv. It made them money and then they were over it once they recreated it with a white cast (Friends). TC is an amazing actor and singer but they didn't value his talent.
That was Fox's whole plan. They used the black sitcoms to upstart the network and cancelled them all when they were still high in ratings. If you notice, with all of the popular black shows on that network, they messed with the formula so they'd have a reason to cancel. If you mess with the storyline and get rid of important characters of course the viewers would stop tuning in.
naturallyme14 Exactly! They do this all the time. Black people are the tastemakers, so they use us to build up a network (or musician or product-like Shea Moisture) then once that’s been achieved they pivot to white audiences and throw us out.
@@SoulKisses76 when I saw this. I'm a grown man that grew up watching that show and as black men in this day and age we need that we need to see more of that that is black pride especially in a day when VH1 has black people portrayed as problematic very rowdy it made me feel good as a black man see that that's strong powerful intelligent black men exist 💯
Yes! And I say this all the time and I am not even a black man, but there is nothing worse than someone who tries to embarrass you in front of others. It’s disgusting. He could’ve pulled him to the side. What he wanted was for TC to grovel. Glad he walked out of there with his head held high.
I think he misread the room. Before he showed up, everyone already knew gossip and they still wanted him to audition. They knew his talent and they still wanted him. They asked the black man to ask the sensitive question so they could get past it. He wasn't ready to get past it and walked out.
I’m telling you brothers and sisters Hollywood is no place for black people! People like Denzel and Will Smith know this. But they made no effort to create their own film industry. Indians created Bollywood with no problem
@@mansamusa2012 Bill Cosby tried his son died and today he is in jail....they sabotage any black people who try to start their own version of Hollywood
The "standard" lines for putting down a black man or woman... He's an Angry Black man, or He comes to work not to work, unprepared. He's not on time! He can’ t write... etc. And, it will stick... The standard BS! It's so unfair out here for a lot of us. I am proud to see TC Carson stood up to it and didn't sacrifice his dignity. The thing is, they normally get another black person, a brother or a sister, to attack another black person! Black on Black! There's a white person normally operating behind the scenes, pulling the strings. SMH
@@shawandacarr8925 yup you are right she was in a couple of episodes training Black Lighting daughter how to control her powers, plus now that I think about it 🤔 both of them share the same Birthday too 🙂
Jonathan Rayne You never know, they could’ve had that discussion, and he might’ve told them not to sacrifice for him. I think the time to do something like that would’ve been at the height of their popularity, but of course the show runners waited until the final season to pull the okie doke. That, and they don’t typically let Black people get away with that. I wouldn’t have been surprised if they canceled the show a year early if they all stuck together. Think about it, they wouldn’t even give them decent craft services, but you know FRIENDS was right across the lot being treated like kings practically since the beginning.
@@escapefrombabylon5847 Word, you try to bluff and you might overplay your hand. in the 90s, shows that catered to the black audience were semi-common. They'd fire the whole cast and kill the show to make a point
@@iunderstanphotography2780 Nobody's saying it's right. It sucks that it's that way, but that's the way it is. As I said, if you don't own the studio or the production company, then you have to fall in line. The Hollywood actor is a glorified blue collar WORKER. Denzel had to put up with crap... guaranteed, but he didn't let it stop him. At the end of the day, your dream and your desire to make a living should be the ONLY thing that matters. It's a whole bunch of people with principles that's out of work and starving.
That show sucked as soon as he was fired. They ended up getting mel jackson to replace him which was trash. I loved kyles character. Mel jackson was terrible sorry but not sorry.
Loretta DeVine played his mom and Lisa Arrindell from _Madea's Family Reunion_ played his girlfriend. That movie is so slept on. I remember watching it on Encore Black a couple of years ago.
@@DavidRichardson95 oh shit if you talking about like 3 or 4 years ago then that's about the time I saw it again in a long time myself on encore LOL 😄👍🏽
His voice was shaking when he talked about what happened. Wow, I feel so bad that this happened to him, but it is so good to see that he used it to make him stronger. You can't keep a good brother down.
TC Carson...I don’t know if you read these comments but my brother I want to tell you this. You had many young black boys like myself in the 90s looking up to you. You had the best job and best women, Maxine, in particular. You ARE one of the best actors and voice actors in the game. We love ya and praying for many blessings your way and to your family.
The brotha who is doing the interviewing did a excellent job. This is how it should be, our stars should allowing black journalist to interview them and black journalist need to carry themselves with professionalism just like this brotha who did the interviewing did.
The problem was & remains that you are a melenated man with strength & convictions. They were not ready for your strength! You are not a schuck & jive type of man. Your energy & positivity still exudes even during this interview!
I definitely know how it feels to be lied on by my coworkers and supervisors about my work that hurt my career and reputation with that company . It’s a horrible feeling .
I can relate to what he’s speaking. I am blackballed by the company, I work & I haven’t gotten the opportunities for growth while I see other people with less experience & less time getting positions because of who they know & not what they know. Enough is enough.
I remember seeing him as an extra in some commercial walking along in a group of folks singing. He was shown only for like 1 second and I remember being in shock cuz I was amazed how he went from “Living Single” to just being an extra in a commercial. I can see pain in his eyes in this interview.
Never a discussion of personal life/ sexual preference etc. So many people’s private lives have been ruined the minute it became public knowledge. Good for him
I agree I also liked how the interviewer kept it on his career, craft, etc. and not on his personal life or past relationships with people. No need for the mud slinging to get views he kept it classy....😉
@@markjefferson2434 Not sure , I met him and Kim Cole in downtown LA in 92' at one of my customers shop. Not saying him and Kim were dating but I couldn't tell if he gay...😉
Great interview. And so sad to hear how the industry did him he is definitely talented and above all he carries himself like gentlemen. Very posed and extremely intelligent. A confident smart Black man is always intimidating in hollywood. Thank Goodness he stayed true to himself because God always prevail over the enemy. Although they tried to stop you and hurt you.. No weapon against you prospered!!!
It's sad to hear stories like this, although it's everywhere. Now that hollywood folks can't control independent films you can focus on getting with those creators.
Exist N Nature Media amen. Fox used all that brilliant black talent to build their network then they dumped them like yesterday’s trash. We built that network and look at them now
He was always one of the smoothest brothers on TV at that time in the 90s.how we thought all black men should dress talk and act like back then..glad to hear things from his side after all these years.
What you just said is one if the main reasons he was fired from the show. You really think they wanna show Black men in a POSITIVE light and not the hood, gangsta, criminal you mostly see??
@@AtypicalM Standing his ground makes him legendary...there aren’t many that do and would do what he did. Use your own vocabulary to describe him, you’re entitled to that.
I had just rewatched living single on hulu , Kyle barker was one of my favorite people was so sad when he left the show. its crazy that he was fired and then had his career blackballed. Definitely one the Best and most underrated Actor of all time !❤❤
Monique told us about the movings and shakings of Hollywood, did she not ? His story sounds just like hers, does it not ? Verbatim, lee daniels said she needed to "play ball" ,and when she didn't play along to get along, she had to endure the back lash of retaliation. We see that deep convictions to "integrity" is the road less traveled. Many are too afraid to rock the boat against that established "upper tier". Look at the tumble of lee daniels and steve harvey , both who've tried to sway Monique, about money over integrity. We shall ALL reap what we've sown, if not now, surely later.
Doreen Newman IMO ive agree 100percent with Monique however she does come off as confrontational and angry. The way he’s speaking about is totally different. I always say it’s not what you say it’s how you say it. Screaming and yelling only plays into the stereotype that’s already placed on us. And people don’t listen when you scream 🤷🏾♂️
@@Edward_Strong1982 Larry I agree with you, many times tone can activate one's listening ear, and that's ONLY if it's coupled with a heart that's willing to listen. One can put their words on a platinum gold plater, if I'm closed to you from the start, it just wouldn't matter how've packaged it. I think from the start of Monique's issues with those folks, many people had that clipped of her expressing her cursings and railings against her "associates", etched in our minds that someone posted when she was doing her stand up. And I agree with you, not the best approach, but that was the only time I've heard her express to that level. She's always communicated very pointedly, not backing down from anyone she approached face to face. It's always been very calm and articulate. She has credited her husband with helping her curb her attitude in a positive manner to work for her, and not against. If you ever heard the two of them speak on the same platform, in the beginning when she'd respond, it would have somewhat of a "bite" to it, even though her vocal inflections would be calm. However Sidney's reply would support her, as he would neutralize that sting of hers. She has come a long way. Oh, a prime example of the heart and ears that wants to listen, Martin Luther King never yelled when he gave his speeches, yet he was killed. Hearts that refused to listen. Larry, stay safe and healthy, take care of you and yours.
@@Edward_Strong1982 the "it's not what you say it's how you say it" is always a "cop out" when people don't want to accept the evidence no matter HOW it's presented. I've seen black people calmly voice their position, or ask about something and told they were "attacking." It is unrealistic to expect someone to be calm always in the face of disrespect or cruelty.
No one wanted to believe or side with Monique because she's a black woman. Soon as a black man says exactly what she's been saying for years, everyone jumps on the bandwagon.
This man was part of my childhood like on Thursday night Martin Living single New York undercover yo then as a teen this man played The original God of War Kratos
Yes, It was so funny realizing that he was the first Kratos. I kept hearing his voice during the game thinking, "I know that guy from somewhere but I can't place him..." Then I looked up the voice and thought, "KYLE BARKER!!???? Fucking KYLE BARKER IS KRATOS!!?????" Blew my mind....
What a talented actor. He gets blackballed for asking to be treated fairly, but Matthew Perry sniffed the whole damn studio with no one batting an eye.
@Brandon Epps I think that's kind of the point... What black man you know would catch AIDS, not tell his partners. Touch boys. Constantly sleep with prostitutes and you don't hear anything about it until way after it happens, then when you do the reaction is still pretty much meh.
He had a short-lived voice part for Kratos after hearing Christopher Judge from the Stargate series the brother with the circular design on his forehead, there's no wonder why he don't have the party anymore!!!
"The friendship you saw onscreen was real. We all really, really liked each other. We were just like brothers and sisters... some days we couldn't stand each other, but we loved each other everyday." I loved that quote from The Honorable TC Carson that was shared regarding the relationship between he and his cast members. At times our communities forget the importance of never "falling out" fully with our fellow brothers and sisters over minor disputes. With just that statement alone he encompassed... True community and unfeigned love. Thank you for this much needed and appreciated interview, Comedy Hype.
It might've been. It certainly wasn't his best work, but I thought he did his thing in that one. Or, at least he did the best that he could with what he was given to work with.
People in Hollywood and in the regular blue/ white collar job industry have issues with strong minded heterosexual black men who speak up for themselves. I've had people talk behind my back for some odd reason at the workplace and I'm a very reserved and laid back person.
Thank you so much for this interview. I truly had a deep love and respect for the show. His character was very real to me. Sad to see him gone from the show and startling to NOT see Latifah there for the reunions for whatever reasons. NYC has a Black story that needs to be told. That opening sequence with the dancer takes place on a spot that if the street could talk, you'd NEVER leave the spot! Glad I followed this channel.
I love TC Carson, I watched all his interviews from CH and I appreciate his candor, honesty, and laying it all out. I wish him well, he still has more to come!! I will support him 100!!
That's because white people are afraid of what they can't control . Tyler Perry did it right and more people in the business should ban together and form their own studios and production companies. Ur stronger in numbers
This is really sad to me. I loved TC Carson's character Kyle on Living Single and to hear what they did to him. It pisses me off. It wasn't enough they fired him off the show. But they also made sure to stunt his growth as an actor to block his blessings by putting false narrative out there in the industry. It hurts cuz he could have been bigger. No wonder sometimes Id think hey where is that one guy from Living Single. l liked him in the movie U-571.
Cindy Sinclair I really wish he could started his own production company or something he seem like he would bring some quality work to the table. In that business you can’t just be a worker you have to advance yourselfLearn screen writing, directing and etc to stay in the business otherwise they will toss you to the side when they done or when you don’t fall in line
They definitely did him wrong for sure and it pisses me off that this continues today. I also noticed that he only had to say it "once" yet Monique has had to repeat her story for years, had receipts and still getting the side eye & called out for showing receipts. How Sway??? We still have work to do as a people before this will end. We must hold them accountable when they do us harm.
Cindy Sinclair It’s interesting with Kim Fields being in the cast and possibly the most well known and with years of experience in the business, wonder how much of a say she had in anything.
Yeah in the early beginning he did his best it was kind of weak, but Christopher Judge from the Stargate series the brother with the circular design on his forehead is off the chart with his voice he hit it right on the head he is the best voice that is well-known that you here he has the best voice look up voices for Kratos God of War on RU-vid and you know exactly what I mean.
@@supra663 Nah, TC Carson did the voice for Kratos in every single version of God of War for multiple consoles; the entire series as a matter of fact. It wasn't until the God of War (2018) game was released on PS4 that you saw Christopher Judge as the voice for Kratos. The replaced TC for Chris since this version entailed more body movement with the graphics and required someone with a much larger frame in real life that would be equivalent to Kratos". So they picked Chris because he had the voice and the ideal body frame that they were looking for.
I have to disagree. A lot to what Monique is going through is what she has brought upon herself. It’s also never a good idea to have the person you sleeping with as your manager/agent. There are so many people who claim they are team MoNique, but why her comedy shows ain’t selling out? You can’t be upset with Netflix for not offering her millions and she’s not selling out comedy shows. Netflix wasn’t even checking for her and they were nice to offer her what they did. I don’t like Amy Schumer and Tiffany Haddish is hit or miss for me (but I’m proud of her) but they were offered their deals because they’re guaranteed money. They are selling out stadiums. MoNique’s comedy show tickets are on Groupon. She needed to come into Netflix with a more humbled attitude.
I always knew what that meant when you have been called "Difficult" in the Industry ppl will run the Other way producers etc. You got to have a Spotless Reputation in That Town
Mr Carson thank you so much for the work you did on Living Single. It was and still is one of my favorite shows. Things definitely didnt turn out the way they should have but it had nothing to do you. You have so many gifts. I'm glad we got a chance to see them. All the best to you.
Wow! Great interview! The level of intelligence, brutal and painful honesty and integrity of Mr. Carson is priceless, and greatly appreciated! Thank you!
This breaks my heart every time I hear stuff like this even tho I know it happens. That’s why I was so mad at Black folks who turned on Monique. Taking white folks side. I hope one day we realize the rules to the game we’re locked into. But Black folks have to recognize we’re in a game in the first damn place. Race First = Winning strategy!
A lot of Black People are still against monique and other black women with similar stories. It is weird to me that black women are told to shut up and be grateful for pennies while our brothers get support from the jump. We need to love and support each other equally.
I wish you well @officialTCCarson! 🙏🏾You are a talented actor, your season will come soon. BTW, you are as handsome as ever and your smile is dazzling. ❤️❤️❤️
My 9 year son love living single because of TC Carson aka Kyle Barker..he loves the way he dresses, talk and just carries himself on whole. I wish he could meet him.
Brother T C Carson thank you for speaking your mind . I felt you were part of the bond that made Living Single the success it was and is to this day. God bless you.
Netflix should pick them up. People would love to see a reboot of it. Especially if it written correctly. They are all still alive and possibly need the work.
I love Living Single and I've been watching the reruns on Hulu, but I don't think they should do a reboot. I read that show creator, Yvette Lee Bowser wants to bring it back. She should just leave it alone. I'm just saying.
I wondered if he was blackballed after watching the last interview. He is a class act and I am a huge fan! It reminds me of what happened to Eartha Kitt. They blackballed her after she disagreed with the first lady with sending black men to war.
Thank U @ComedyHype I love this! He looks amazing. So dignified. Articulate & down to earth. I loved his 'character' & Max. I miss that show. Great memories.(=❤#90s
