My buddy from Texas was a "smurf" and he said the surf torture was one of the worst things he experienced. He said that he would have died before he got up. That is a lot of mental toughness that is hard to imagine.

I was 13 yrs old in n.c my dad was in the airforce on vacation we used to go fishing/ beach days on camp lejeune onslow beach i saw these guys swiminng out to sea in groups - i was in awe- 12 yrs later i was swimming that beach- 2nd force recon-

Back in the late 80's I went through a period of instruction that lasted months. We were asked multiple times over that timeframe 'What is the meaning of brotherhood?" Near the end of the cycle we were told that when men work together shoulder to shoulder there is no room for any to turn back. The weak derive strength from the strong, and the goal is accomplished by all. This is the true meaning of brotherhood. For whatever reason this was engrained into my mind during that time and I've never forgotten it. No idea where the quote originated. But definitely gets at the heart of esprit de corps for those that go through trying times and come out the other side together.

I’m a French guy and I’m proud of that but if I would’ve been an American, I know that I would’ve love to join the U.S. Armed Forces (If I’m so sure about that it’s because I tried in the French Air Force, unfortunately a sight problem stopped my dream from coming true) especially the Navy just to be a SEAL. When you say BUD/s is not impossible, very very tough but not impossible, when you say "if the guy next to me can do it, I can do it", you probably don’t know how motivating is your message for those who want to try it. You say nobody is thriving in surf torture, they are just getting by, barely surviving. There is this guy called Jake Zweig who claims to be imune to the cold, which absolutely fascinates me. I suppose there are exceptions to everything.

The closest I did while there was making an amphibious landing/training climbing down from cargo nets off the ship USS Durham to a mike boat and landing on Coronado beach. It was safer than an amtrac.

Today I went into a marine Recluter’s office after being discharged during bootcamp for having thc in my system the universe aligned and I’m having a second chance thank you Taylor I’m going to be a guide or a squad leader in my platoon I’d do anything to see you in my graduation once I get shipped out. Surf torture sure sounds unpleasant. I do not think I'd make it.

After all you'd been through, you were gonna just die rather than give up. I know surf torture must be one of those things you have to experience to understand. Like a night mass tac combat jump at 1,000 feet w a machine gun strapped to your leg, or rucking up a mountain in kandahar. You gotta be there to get it: SALUTE!

In the year 2024 it’s called surf immersion.

“The path of least resistance creates crooked rivers” Got a lot of time for ye Tcav but l disagree with this statement, l think it is a testament to rivers, part of their own journey to navigate around and through a variety of geology over thousands of years in order to get to the Ocean, kind of like freedom. In Ireland we say “There are many streams to the Ocean” in other words there are many ways to live but we all end up dying, we all reach the Ocean. You must be a navigator in this life, rivers can cut straight through rocks, move rocks along with them, be a bit boring if every river was straight. The old ones say, when you do things from your soul, you will eventually feel like a river, the great journey from the mind to the heart. Be a navigator Tcav.

Hey Good Morning Taylor. Well I can relate. As you know Marines doing indoc/rip school stays along side ya'll at Coronado during our first n third phase, and I was I a winter class. There's nothing colder than that Coronado surf in fricken January. I don't know what they do now, or what Marsoc/Raiders training cycle looks like, I left active duty in 95' they weren't spun up yet. We got wet regularly up on San Clemente Islamd as well, and I know you guys would be up there for your 3rd Phase. There's probably not much in the world more bleek, and hopeless than sitting in the surf at 0230 in January 🇺🇸SF
