@stopthefomo I need your help. I just purchased a song x90k and I'm worried I made the wrong choice. Would it be better to go with the U8H over the x90k?
Your on crack if you say the U8H has better motion than the TCL. Even when you had it 1-3 still looked terrible blurry and stuttery on the fast moving objects while the TCL had no problems and handled it like a champ.
@@geoffboyd Yes, there is an update that automatically instals when you set it up and connect it to Wifi. Gives you 4k at 120hz easy, and the HDR 10 hits in automatically an for gaming man, it is amazing. And input lag is so low.
Every time I turn on my TCLR635 I'm impressed how good it is for a so called budget TV. I can say they give you a lot for less. Most people would be happy with a TCL 6 series TV. I have 4 of them and I like each one very much.
U8H DV is a little over-bright compared to R655 (disc content) but does this turn you off? Ironically, R655 is too bright in HDR whereas U8H is more accurate so remember - no perfect TV exists!
Make sure you get a very good guarantee... my Hisense H9G (used for movies only) would not power on after 17 months. It was very good while it lasted but now in the county dump as cost too much to repair. A 3 year term would be nice.
I just have to say I love the way you do your reviews. Started off mentioning firmware updates. I have been watching so many reviews recently and not a single "reviewer" has mentioned how "CURRENT firmware" can change the picture quality. At most some mention firmware when talking about how some manufacturers add a feature later on but never how it can actually affect picture quality. I know firsthand how much a firmware "update" can change the image quality because when I first got my current TV it was amazing, to me at least, when watching Dolby Vision content. But after the first major update the tv received the colors were never quite right again and it completely broke the "game mode" for almost an entire month. So thank you for the honesty.
Hey brother! Thought I'd offer some feedback on the U8H as well. I got the 55" for my bedroom a month ago and I've gotten more impressed over that time. My panel is very clean, either I got lucky on the lottery or the 55" has less DSE. The blacks are really impressive for an LCD and the blooming has been minimal, important because I'm watching it in a dark room. It can't compare to my a80j but significantly better than my older Samsung. HDR is excellent. I use the original Roku 4k stick, so the Hisense remote is only used for adjusting settings (Classy's settings work well, though I've brightened it a bit). I only use the motion settings when SDR content is driving me crazy. I can't turn off DV on my version of the Roku stick but have watched very little content that was not HDR 10. I doubt I'll hook up my consoles so no input on gaming. No reason to get a soundbar for the bedroom, and the equalizer is a nice addition. If your budget is 1500 or less, you'll use it mainly for movies & sports, the price makes it a pretty easy choice for daytime and nighttime viewing and you'll have a little extra $ leftover for a nicer soundbar.
Yes but even in these videos you can see on the U8H you lose detail in the dark which isn’t the biggest deal but a professional that has equipment noticed that and more stutter. When tcl does not have stutter at all.
Speaking as a retired professional photographer I would say the TCL is actually the more accurate scene with the bedroom. That light an the wall is enough to light up the room as shown. (And I own a Hisense U8H and an older TCL P605 so no bias)
U guys right thats why i went with NEW TLC 85655, just came out ,comes with few updated new feathers for Unbelievable price of $2 Grand for 85 inch.. U cant beat that , cant wait for delivery in few days , at this time only BestBuy carries it, just don't f*n buy VIZIO TVS American made piece of shyt! NEVER AGAIN Buys American made , even some stores & now Costco don't carry that f***ked up garbage brand , mine is only 2 years old screen burnt in corner & TV don't works with remote anymore & if u call them, they says BUY a new TV mother fathers!
Including features like hdmi 2.1 capability and an atsc 3.0 tuner built-in would be helpful in the comparison. All new TVs sold in the US should have the atsc 3.0 tuner as standard equipment, imo. As far as cost goes, an external 3.0 tuner can cost an additional $200-$300- a real consideration when comparing costs!
The TCL has a 144hz refresh rate if used as a monitor. Just something to keep in mind. I’m going to be picking up the new RTX 4090 so having a high refresh rate at 4K is a must. And given that you can get it at 75 inches and around the 1500 price point, just seems like the best option in my personal position.
This tv keeps getting detected as a 1080p native resolution as a monitor.. replaced 6 hdmi cables full certified 2.1 8k@60hz, 120hz 4k , and all the latest tech on the cable, RMA'd 4 gpus 7900xtx, ended up getting the Sapphire nitro pluss 7900xtx, still 1080p... Drivers bios is up to date, even replace new mobo and PSU, changed bios batt also, NOTHING WORKS, 700 bucks down the drain.. plus 500 i spent on a new mobo and Gpu smh... Any ideas? Tech from TCL replaced the mobo and pdb on the tv, so new hdmi ports as well... Yes tv settings have been change to 2.1 and game mode on, I can upscale the tv to 4k 144hz but it looks like dog shiz colors are washed, GPU drives are all updated and even bios and chipset for both mobo and cpu... Help guys... 1k down the drain so far...
Please keep us updated if the U8H gets a fix for resolution and posterization for gaming, also is this issue only present during game @ 120hz ? Or just in general, is it also an issue during HDR movie ?
As a average consumer myself I would say either one of these TV's would be good enough for most people. Especially if they don't want to spend thousands more for a TV. I have TCL and Hisense TV's and I'm satisfied with what I get from them.
NOTICE: I finally needed to return the Hisense U8H. The severe problems with "Stuttering" and "Posterization" and "Macroblocking" and "Lipsyncing" were NOT solved with the recent Firmware Updates. It is SO DISAPPOINTING Hisense would release a product with so many glitches and flaws. If Hisense had made the product just a little better and taken a bit longer to release it, I gladly would have paid a couple hundred dollars more to avoid those problems.
@@druid2538 Yes, I returned within the return time period. If you read the reviews of the U8H, you see Hisense launched the product knowing some of the defects such as problems with Dolby Vision not working with Netflix existed. Hisense made it clear from the start that they "Were aware of this problem" and that it was a defect they had every intent to fix with a "Firmware Update." And Hisense already fixed that particular problem with the Firmware Update they spoke of. However, the reviews made it clear from the very beginning that Hisense never promised any sort of "Firmware Update" to repair the problems with "Stuttering" or "Posterization" or "Macroblocking." There was never a guarantee those problems would be fixed. In fact, Hisense doesn't even publicly acknowledge those problems. People are simply told to "contact us" in order to talk about the problem privately. So far, those particular problems have not been fixed with Firmware Updates, as of December 30, 2022. It became painfully clear Hisense had no intent to fix those problems with "Firmware Updates," because those problems related to the hardware - or in particular the lack of "Processing Power" on the U8H TV set. As a result, I decided it was just too much of a risk with too much money to keep the product. So, I returned it. I think it is fantastic that the U8H looks awesome in "still pictures" and "magazines" when you are looking at something that doesn't "move." But when you are watching a movie and you see the "Stuttering," it is disturbing. This is a problem that TV sets from the 1980s didn't have. When you watch a movie on the U8H, you quickly realize that before you can build a 100-story skyscraper (i.e. a TV set at 120hz in HDR), you need to build a solid foundation (i.e. a TV set that can simply play movies with a framerate of 24hz without "Stuttering" problems and "Macroblocking" problems). I hope Hisense listens to this and gets things right for 2023. Those companies such as Sony, Samsung, and LG are just out of my price range. If Hisense had just put in a little more effort to give the U8H a true 10-Bit panel and a little more processing power, the U8H truly could have dominated the market in 2022. Unfortunately, the U8H is a victim of the concept of "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link." The "Brightness" of the unit and the "Blackness" of the Mini-LED technology really don't matter at all when you see the problems with "Stuttering, " and "Macroblocking," and "Posterization."
@@michaelzoran Thank you for the detailed description. I think I'm now considering trying to find an open box LG C2/C1 or Sony A80K/A80J. Or maybe trying to get one of them in a couple months from now when the 2023 models start rolling out.
@@druid2538 You might want to look at the Best Buy "Class 83" model from LG. It is an "IPS" so it has excellent viewing angles. And it uses "Mini LED" technology, so it has good blacks. The Best Buy website "claims" it is $1,000 off. You cannot find this model of TV reviewed anywhere, or on the LG website. People in the reviews have said this "Class 83" from 2022 is actually a remixed "Class 90" from 2021. One thing that has me concerned with Best Buy, particularly with LG products, is that they claim there are lots of money off the produce, when in reality it appears there isn't. For example, I saw Best Buy has an LG 22" VA monitor for only $79, and they claim it is $80 off and normally sells for $159. But that seems to be a lie, because if you go to the LG website it has the normal price of $79. Similarly, at Best Buy the "Series 85" model of 2022 sells for $1,799 and supposedly is "$200 off" and normally sells for "$1,999." That means the "Class 85" of 2022, which ranks higher than the "Class 83" of 2022, normally sells for $500 less than the "Class 83 of 2022." This is not logical and is just one of many examples where Best Buy gets caught in a deceptive lie with discounts on LG products. Anyways, I recently bought that LG 22" Monitor for only $79, and I can tell you I now know why VA monitors have such a bad reputation for "poor viewing angles." This monitor is worse than anything I've ever seen, though. In Windows 10 when you see the blue desktop, all you need to do is slightly move your head and the dark blue colors start to look different. Now I know why the Hisense and even the Sony $3,200 flagship model were rated so poorly by RTings. They aren't nearly as bad as that LG computer monitor, though. I'm going to return it and get an IPS. The blacks of the VA monitor weren't even good on the 22" LG Monitor. If possible, keep me posted on what you do and let me know works out well for you. I unfortunately think 2022 was a year we may have come "close," but can only hope 2023 ends up being the year when basic things such as "True 10-Bit Color" and "No Stuttering" are actually appearing in all the TV sets.
So... how does this comparison fare today, early march 2023? I'm between these 2 tv, 55 inch and I'm going crazy, still can't decide. I'll end up buying a 55" LG c2 for double the price if can't make up my mind... then regret it.
I almost bought a Hisense U8H until I found out that the UK version has much less dimming zones and IPS panel vs VA in the US. To those in the UK, do you have any suggestions for a good alternative? I'm considering a 65 inch TCL C935 or a 55inch Samsung S95B. BTW The C935 uses Google TV (at least in the UK)
Inferior non-US model, U8HQ uses IPS panel, ViDAA OS, fewer dimming zones, worse contrast, 200 nits dimmer, no subwoofer (for countries like Singapore), no Dolby Vision gaming, no Apple Airplay, Homekit, Chromecast, use less power and weigh less, but cost more! 😪
Thanks for the great review, Lou Diamond Phillips! 😆 On a more serious note: How big of a difference is there between the R655 and the R617? Wondering if an upgrade is worth it.
I know that U8HQ in Europe is different (basically trash), but what about TCL? In Europe we have C835 - is it the same as R655 or better/worse? Please let me know.
Thank you! You do a great job of reviewing without falling off the cliff with over done tech geek speak. Lot of movie buffs like me who are really concerned about getting a quality image but not tech savvy enough to understand pixel peeping language.
I've seen two interesting things as far as gaming goes, one reviewer said that he notices there is indeed some issue with the posterization, he experienced lines in strange places and pink fuzzy outlines, but another reviewer mentioned using ports 3 and 4 on the row of HDMI ports, apparently those are better for use in actual gaming so maybe that's another fix for the gaming issue? When he explained how you should handle the settings for gamine he said he had no issues at all.. I saw a U8H at a store and I was really surprised and how good it looked it was easily 2-3 times brighter than the other tvs around it. It really sucks because the day I went to see it was the say the sale ended so I couldn't get it then but maybe it will go on sale again? (black friday 2022)
My problem with Hisense is the QUALITY I HAD A U8G THE SCREEN WENT OUT AFTER 4 MONTHS OF VERY LIMITED USE AND I CAUGHT HELL TRYING TO GET A REFUND FROM HISENSE. LOVED THE PICTURE.. BUT IM SCARED OF HISENSE!!!
I really like your videos but on this compare. Things you did not notice other has. Like U8H stutter problem among a few more things. But the biggest is they both been tested with equipment and the tcl color accuracy is almost perfect where U8H isn’t. Now something like that is hard to see with a human eye but that’s a biggy. But all said I still will watch your videos you do a great job!
I would watch a video with other professionals with equipment that deep checks everything. And decide for yourself cause U8H isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
@@lonniechamberlain251 People could say the same about music, but it doesn’t hold up. Experts know what to look for and have trained themselves to notice fine details and articulate them.
FOMO Love your work and evaluations. Although you do not have the TCL QM850G 2023 and the Hisence 85UX 2023 top of the line evaluated as of, yet I need help in deciding which TV you would buy for what you evaluated at the CES show. Currently I have ordered the 85 inch TCL for $2,199 and the 85-inch Hisence for $4,139 that skyrocketed in price now $4.999. Can you please help me decide if it was you or anyone else on this post that has compared the specs. Thanks much in advance.
Thank you for the video I bought The high sense TV But we do play xbox so I'm a little nervous When the new video P series comes out I'd be interested to see how it compares
Had a 75 inch TCL 8 series. Lasted 16 months, then got black screen . Customer service told me no service or repair centers in USA. So, my $ 1,800.00 has gone down the drains. Customer service said the cost to repair it will be more than the price of a new TV. They recommended buying a new TV. I took their good advice and I bought a new Samsung. No more TCL, No more Chinese TV for me.
I don't have netflix 4k subscription . Just the HD subscription. On my Sony x95J using the firestick , Netflix shows Dolby Vision at 4k. When using Google built in app, Neflix display 1080 but no dolby vision. Is the Firestick or TV upscaling netflix when using external firestick?
I wants to go with U8H, but it's not comes IN 85 in, so I went with the new TLC just came out 85R655, comes with a few new features & is for only $2,000 , you can't f*n beat that, can't wait for delivery in few days , the only place is carry is the Best buy right now
Don’t be fooled I own both. The Tcl is king with 448 dimming zones btw you said 360 it has 448. Blacks at good it does need a software update to fix black bars too and bottom but beside that full screen dark movies are pretty black and bright. The tcl is super bright retina burning bright. I would say just as bright as the u8h. There both great u8h has judder and the gaming feature are just not as good as r655. I actually might return u8h for another r655. Don’t let these reviewers fool you.
@WorkInProgress yea I’ve heard they are very similar in a lot of aspects and you only really notice the small differences when they are side by side. It comes down to preference. One reviewer said to go with the cheapest one at the time of buying bc they are that similar
Just bought the U8H 55" for $649. Beautiful picture & speakers will blow you out! I have a bar with a sub because I've owned the Hisense 2020 ROKU 58" for less than $279 now at Walmart . The problem is that those models only last a couple of years before the backlighting goes out. However, for that price? If it lasts a year? It's worth it to me, but I spent a few hundred more for the U8H. Can't do TLC, seen from experts where TLC doesn't compare to Hisense TVs.
Does anyone know why the US only gets the Hisense U8H when compared to the same tv anywhere else the tv is downgraded for the same money like the zones is only 112
Stop the FOMO: What about the Hisence UX 85 With 2,500 Nits, 20,000 mini led's, 5000 local dimming zones. Everyone seems very quiet about reviewing this TV. It might just blow away any Samsung, Lg and Sony out of the water! The 85 inch monster is currently selling for $4,999 at Best Buy, Amazon and Walmart. Who will be the first to review this extremely promising TV?

The TCL is top notch and pretty much all aspects gaming performance he didn’t really describe why the Samsung was better anybody know why the QNED is supposedly superior to the TCL n gaming performance?
You do know Netflix is not the only one with Dolby vision content right? Literally every other streaming service has Dolby vision and HBO max and Amazon have the more impressive looking show so Netflix having some issues shouldn’t be a big deal. Plus just as a heads up you shouldn’t use the tv as your way to watch apps. Get an external player like a Roku or Apple TV
most people are looking for a tv that games and the TCL R655 games 1080p144hz 6ms freesync 4k 120hz probably 16ms or less and is still has great picture quality when watching live sports even movies are fantastic the hisense u8h cant compete in the gaming category its trash if your a gamer go with the TCL R655
Watched plenty of your videos and the overwhelming majority are great and very insightful. With that said maybe it's time to drop the white gloves and lensless glasses shtick? I think it's hurting more than it's helping.
I think I need an 85 inch tv and am not sure what to get. I watch the NBA and otherwise netflix streaming. My budget is flexible but ideally under 2000
@Christian..Yes it does. 1. Click home button on remote 2. From menu click settings 3. Scroll down untill you see apple air and home kit, and click on it 4. Turn on from there

Don't buy TCL , after 2.5 years warranty ended. Ping back light fails, And its not economic to fix cheaper to buy a new TV. Glass so thin difficult to fix without glass cracking.
Hey my brother from another mother, never gave two shits about TV stuff till about 2 weeks ago found your channel it's all I've been watching never did it but I'm really getting into it, I keep track of five or six of y'all dudes doing this shit but I've got a TCL model 55s 21 it's like 280 bucks at Walmart 8 9 months ago, I thought it always worked great found that secret TC you meant menu and also found the advance expert settings don't really know how to do that shit, so I'm not, I know what you told me yesterday day for yesterday but they got the r46 I think with all the new updates right now for like $580 bucks at Best buy but they say that one you're talking about what is it r55 is best for gaming really, which one should I get, what's better on the one you're talking about and they are 46 TCL, thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart for responding the other day, since I got out the army I'm kind of laid up in the bed, that's all I got to do, thank you again my brother, really love your channel , 🇺🇸💯👊 oh sorry about forgot just for gaming I buy two games a year MLB the show and Madden that's all I've got that's all I buy
