@@CoolAirVw AVS stands for anti shudder valve. It keeps the engine from doing that shudder thing when you turn off the engine. The purpose is to stop airflow to prevent ignition after shutdown.
What is this pipe kit called I have a bew engine I just had to buy a new throttle body and throttle body hose as I’m losing antifreeze from the 3 piece connection
I don't think I've seen a car with an EGR delete (in our area)... they are supposedly popular in the TDI community. I think heat inside the vehicle is also affected (the cooler takes heat from the exhaust / the exhaust gives off heat into the coolant). Wouldn't mind seeing dyno specs before & after. I guess a little HP/lbs-ft here and there could add up to a noticeable gain. I do know that there are guys running bigger injectors, turbos & boost... so it's major upgrades (over a little one like this) that turns these TDI's into sleepers! =)
Thanks for this video. I purchased the delete kit and now I'm not so sure about installing it. The block off plates you mentioned sounds like a better plan and I've had "run away" since buying the car with the 1.9 Turbo diesel once already. Clean or replace the EGR and use block off plates would be a good video if you can do one in the future.
I liked the video a lot. These old ALHs are so easy to work on because of lots of space and access available everywhere :) CRs are super tight. Regarding the ASV valve. This one is vacuum operated one. During a real runaway, the force of air entering cylinders is so high that the vacuum simply won't be able to hold the closed - the air will override the holding force so the best way to stop a runaway is foot firmly on brake pedal, shift into 1st and let off the clutch abruptly. What I didn't like too much was the coolant leaking onthe the transmission upon removal of the hose from "coolant manifold". There is a transmission breather there so with these amounts of liquids coming there is a chance some might get inside the trans. Al in all, great video.
This is one of the best videos I've watched on VW TDI's. It was even better since I am going to be doing this to the exact same Golf in the next few days. I would have liked to know what kit was used because the one that I am using does not include the coolant hose. Are these hoses readily available as an aftermarket part. The kit I am using allows for the use of the AVS valve, so I will make sure to reinstall it. I was also surprised that the car's intake manifold was so clean. It was mentioned that it has the VNT 17 turbo upgrade. I wonder if they had pulled the manifold at the same time and cleaned it. I have the same turbo to put on my Golf as well. I decided to pull the motor out to make all of the upgrades easier. As clogged as my AVS and intake are, the valves and ports cannot be any better. It now has me thinking of a crankcase vapor canister and an alcohol injection system to try to keep the system cleaner.
What we could do is just get a couple of blanks and leave the entire EGR on. blank under the asv and blank the exhaust manifold wwhile both egr pipes are still on just put the blanking plate in between where the gaskets are. nobody will notice egr delete. and to make it cost nothing make egr blanking plates yourself. job done.
Anyone can remove an EGR valve and install a plate - I was doing it in 79'. No, there weren't kits available back then, you made your own parts. We don't need any more videos demonstrating EGR removal. We need videos to show the procedure to reconfigure the computer after the EGR has been removed.
Hi, At about 28:20 in this video you mention block off plates for an EGR delete. I have a couple of questions. If block off plates are used, will the check engine light come on? Do you know a source of (or sell) the block off plates? Where are the block off plates installed? Are there any long-term negatives for using the block off plates? Your the first mechanic I've heard of recommending block off plates. This would make a good video (in my opinion) if you get a customer wanting an EGR delete. Thank you for any information.
yes the check engine light will come on. Software change (tune) is necessary to keep it off. Block off plates are everywhere on the internet. Normal tdi suppliers like Boraparts or Cascade German, ID parts and even ebay. Some people claim the car warms up slower, but I haven't noticed anything significant.
One thing mate, ive removed activator hose from the egr as simple modification (both sides are blanked no vacuum leak), thing is the turbo after it goes to overboost condition and when u accelerate hard it will go into limp mode, u generally feel the car without egr have more boost on low revs the prob is it cutting it off on high revs ;) advice's? yeah i know im supposed to check the vnt but when i plug egr hose back there is no overboost whatsoever.

I don't know exactly how to explain my problem but I own a 02 Volkswagen beetle with a 1.9L tdi engine I had to replace the turbo and once I finished limp mode was on and engine light I reset the computer then went from 7 faults to 3 faults which was the glow plugs now limp mode is off engine light is still on I have slow rev and low power any idea how I can fix the problem
Sorry, i cant help more but it takes more than just few words describing the problem to diagnose the car. It takes feeling the problem and my own interpretation and maybe some tests like graphing, vacuum tests or visual inspection ect.
Can you bypass or delete the EGR without deleting the ASV? Stupid question I know, but I am curious. I am thinking about deleting my EGR, but want to do so without getting rid of the ASV. Do they even sell kits that have a race pipe with an ASV attached to it? Thanks!
asv doesnt stop runaway. it only closes for a split second to limit air into the combustion chamber so the engine dosent shake. only way to kill a runaway is to put er in 5th and drop the clutch or wait for the valves to meet a piston
is there any reason why someone would get rid of the asv valve by disconnecting it and shoving a bolt in it? I just got an 2003 alh and noticed that someone along the line has done that. I wanna hook it back up but just curious if there known for issues.
Where did your client buy his delete kit? Mine is an automatic and I cant find one for my '03 tdi jetta. Because, I want to recline my coolant line, that what I am having trouble with.
Just watched this video and I agree, I don’t want to totally delete everything but I would like to block off the egr valve. I noticed you mentioned you can do it with just the thicker metal block off plates. Can you tells where to buy them. I have a 2002 beetle 1.9 tdi with 150 k miles on it and the egr valve and intake are ridiculously clogged with soot, I would like to solve this problem without making major changes. I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks
At 21:24 you begin to talk about rerouting the vacuum lines so that you can eliminate them all together, as opposed to plugging them with screws or golf tees. Does anyone have a diagram of how this works exactly?
Great video you can actually go ahead and delete the N18 and change over valve because you deleted the intake manifold flap and egr it’ll clean up those vacuum lines even more

Hi.deleting engine shudder wont damage the engine when you are turning off the ignition?because the engine vibrates a bit when its being turned off Thank you.
The other thing about the delete I am not a fan of it that the she does serve as a cooling of the combustion chamber by inserting exhaust air “non oxygenated “ I forget the proper term for that anyhow I just go into adaptives and make the eve duty cycle as low as possible I believe 10% then you still get a cooling of the combustion chamber I totally agree with run away control too. Innert is the term I was looking for lol
Oil coming out of the "vent hole" in the egr is common. It just means the egr valve is worn out. There is a fine mist of oil passing through the intake all the time from crankcase vapors and the turbo. That fine mist is pushed out the EGR vent hole if its worn, by turbo boost pressure . If you want it nice and dry replace the eGR valve.
Lots of "coolant heaters" available, namely Frostheater (not a sponsor but Frostheater can contact me if they want), but they are not "circulating" as they just use conduction/convection. I dont know how to answer your question about coolant flow, because I dont have all cars memorized, and honestly I dont know what car you have, but I can tell you if you disconnect the hoses and start it you instantly know which direction coolant flows.
on my vw. 2.0tdi. i can block off egr by simply remove the vacum to the egr and plug the hose. check engine is on. but drive better no problem. my iregular rpm around 1800rpm also goes away. dunno why though.
FYI I dont recommend "race pipes". Very different hardware for BEW but all similar in theory. Leave ASV valve in place, and on BEW leave "intake shutter valve" in place.
Also the hose you connected to the race pipe on the left side was that the stock pipe and you just cut the end off or did the customer have a new silicone hose?
@@anthonyrizzo5973 all the hardware is different. Block off plates, coolant re-route and a tune is all that is needed if your doing this on BEW or ALH.
Anybody else have problems removing the clamp that connects the intake hose to the turbo at 4:07? Mine is pointed towards the front of the car and slightly at an angle to where I cannot get my flexible hose clamp pliers on it. I've tried from the top and also the bottom. Only thing I can think of is to remove the hose below it for more access.

easy free way is to remove vacuum hose from EGR valve. Better way is to install block plates and remove EGR cooler. Of course either of these will make a EGR trouble code so you'll need to live with CE light or get it tuned.
I added block off plates to my jetta to dellete the egr. The engine sounded like it had a blow by didnt like the sound so I took them off. Did I miss something.
@@duramaxduke6490 The two "heater hose size hoses" you generally tie them together. most kits will provide a coupler to do so and some kits, depending on application will provide a hose to do do so. There is a small (8mm) coolant hose on the cooler also it goes back to a "Tee". Most people take out the "Tee" and us a "coupler" eliminating the 3rd leg of the "Tee" and therefore no need of the hose that goes to the cooler.
Had to leave it running all day a couple times, frigid temperatures during work. The intake was blocked as bad as the demo u showed. Suspect exhaust and turbo took a lot of soot too! I Even used a EGR free vacuum schematic. New MAS, $6k worth engine improvement ??? Lost

if you could help me out I'd appreciate it. I have an 2006 jetta with the brm engine, i need to replace my turbo as its pushing oil out exhaust and I have had a ford 6.0 diesel that had a run away after a turbo replacement because the shop didn't check intercooler before starting up engine. I want to replace my turbo on this jetta and also delete the egr but i want to have the asv as a safety backup for runaway shutdown. is all this possible without an engine code or light on? thanks
ASV and EGR are seperate devices on BRM. Block plates and software delete for EGR should do nothing to the ASV on BRM. Installing a "race" pipe similar to what is in this video WILL eliminate ASV function.
Different parts but yes it can. Usually on that folks would be considering EGR and DPF delete. If you've had the "fix" done after the emissions scandal they give you a warranty so you should wait till the warranty is out.
You can leave it in place but removing it makes room, and a "cleaner" engine bay. It does have the potential to leak antifreeze and the hoses as well that run to it so less "stuff" has less potential for failure.
.....and lots of it if the car doesn't see a lot of highway driving. It also helps keep the exhaust turbine vanes and variable vanes (VVT) last longer. I have to dive into this project soon on my 2005.5 TDI / BEW and take off the intake manifold and clean the exhaust side of the turbo and probably the actuator. ugh. And there's no easy way to get around any of this. Probably 10+ hours.
