I was so surprised to see the thumbnail of these two people together! Arjen finds the time for absolutely everyone. He and Floor are being such great ambassadors for The Netherlands! Elizabeth, you know where you need to turn next!
Me, too! She's followed the trail to Arjen's door. It seemed like only a matter of time but, at the same time, I was worried it would never happen! I surely didn't expect an interview. I thought maybe she'd discuss a video. So YAY!
Arjen is one of my favorite artists and producers. His work with Lana Lane on 'Secrets of Astrology' is epic and Ambeon bridging pop and metal. Every Ayeron album is amazing, and the Space Metal albums.!!! His treatment of vocals as musical instruments is legendary.
Look i know this is a coincidence, but I commented on the first Lorna Shore reaction and said how great a Tea Time interview with WIll and it happened, i did the same with the first Ayreon reaction and now its happening, I have to force my luck and say how amazing a Tea Time interview with Floor or Bruce would be
Hey Elizabeth, In your interview with Devin, which singer did he mention? Yes, Anneke van Giersbergen. In this interview with Arjen, which singer does he mention? Yep..Anneke van Giersbergen! I think it's time to revisit Anneke, but not in one of her collaborations, but with her own band. please check out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UpEm0YZWI8k.html
Arjen.. I will never ever hate you for saying such is a terrible language.. Because you're 100% right! Writing or singing in Dutch is just.. especially on an emotional level, extremely limited. I too an Dutch, but have always written in English. It opens so many more possibilities to express yourself. So NO. I will not hate you, I love you for saying that haha
Floor's Dutch version of A Song For War Child is one of the most beautiful thing's I've ever heard. So much better than the English version. I don't even speak or understand Dutch. But it's a much more emotional sounding version.
Wow. Almost 2 hours of Arjen and you talking about music. Some great lessons to be learned as well. If you want to check out the singer (Jaycee) he is praising, check out the latest 'Praying Mantis' singles. I think you will love his voice.
Wow, through your talking about Dio I discovered his VERY old stuff for the first time. Sure nothing for most Metal fans, but when you like 60s bands from Rock, it may be worth a try. So thank you!!!! By the way, if you like the stuff Dio did for Roger Glover I found John Lawton perfoming there, too, so I remembered another singer of Uriah Heep, David Byron. You should listen to his version (he was the original singer of it) of "Rain" from Heep. That is damn emotional singing... perhaps another candidate for first reaction???
This warms my heart so so much, and that's just from the trailer! You are two of the most humble and charismatic (well, it's in the name after all ^^) people on this planet. I'm so glad this interview is a thing!
Arjen found Marcella Bovio when for his Ayreon The Human Equation album he put out a 'casting call' looking for a new talent that would fit in the character he had in mind. Marcella responded from Mexico, Arjen was very enthousiastic about her voice. So he let her come over to his studio in the Netherlands and the rest is history. In fact she never left the Netherlands again.
@@TheCharismaticVoice ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pEifyeijN5A.html Ronnie James Dios last show!He really left on top!He was 67 years old in this clip and sang better than most other much younger hard rock-singers even at this age!Dearly missed.
You keep getting closer to interviewing Floor by degrees, would LOVE to be a fly on the wall for your excitement when that day hopefully comes for you 🥰
@@darkaether2798 I've stood next to him after 2003 Star one concert (little meet and greet after)... I actually had to look up, and I'm 6' 4" (and true, he did tower above all there I first thought he was holding a really tiny guitar on stage.....
Gosh, this is by far the most interesting, heart warming, honest and profound interview between two musicians that I have ever heard! This really made my day (eh...my evening)!!!!
No Arjen, I agree. Dutch is a ridiculous language! I do love the amount of time Arjen puts into contacting the audience - commenting on youtube, reacting to fanmail. What a stand-up guy.
@@TheCharismaticVoice I've been wondeeing if the artists like this kind of stuff more than a usual interviews too. At least it's something different for a change. Thank you Elizabeth. And Arjen too. Was fun to watch.
He is definitely one of my biggest inspirations, not just as a musician, but as a creative person who is so kind and thoughtful. If I can be both artistically adventurous and unique, while also being kind, enthusiastic, and compassionate the way Arjen is, I feel I will have done something good with my life.
Hi Elizabeth ! I'm so glad you found out about Arjen ! His whole discography is basically a huge box of ear candy. It just keeps on giving ! And it will get you to discover many great singers ! I first heard Devin Townsend's voice in an Ayreon album, for example. The Electric Castle is still my personal favourite, I think. Isis and Osiris into Amazing Flight is pure gold.
Ok, I'm subscribing just because this interview. By the way, you should interview Marcela Bovio, she released an album last year, almost 20yr colaborating with Lucassen and she sings on multiple songs for this StarOne's album.
@@VampireDemonFreak exactly, she is so versatile than can sing quite different styles and has a range that even she hasn't explored the full of it. Eg: just as she sings as the main voice, she sings so high in one of the songs of the latest StarOne's album as a background vocal.
I absolutely love this man. I used to run a Facebook page about progressive metal called progressive power. He would always comment and say the nicest things. What a wonderful human being and amazing talent
Another great thing about living here in The Netherlands is that we are full of amazing musicians like you Arjen :) And Floor and Simone and Anneke and Sharon the list goes on and on. Really lovely interview!
Elizabeth once again bringing us another fantastic interview and with the man himself no less! Love both you and Arjen Elizabeth keep up the amazing work!
Great interview Elizabeth,👍Can you please react on songs from Arjens project "The Gentle Storm" with Anneke van Giersbergen? As mentioned in this interview: 1:08:51 This live version of Brightest light is great ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vDtBD4ylFQU.html but also "heart of Amsterdam", Endless Sea" and a lot more😉 Thanks!!!👍👍
when they mentioned very early Dio, I immediately thought of Elf "Carolina County Ball" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HsZbBaduJOU.html
What Arjen says about replying to everyone is really really true! I've sent an e-mail a long time ago to compliment his work when I first discovered Ayreon and he replied to me! His music already got me hooked but when he actually took the time to reply to me, personally, I really fell in love with his art and him as well! Edit: Also, one of the most wholesome interview I've seen over here as well!
How many hours does Arjan have in a day??? The man knows everything from everyone who made music in the past fifty years. And he reads all the comments, and he creates stuff. I would like to ask, does he sleep? Also nice to see the charismatic voice putting herself in the attention of Arjen. I hope it will work out. I'd love to see you perfrom in Ayreon.
Wow! What a great treat. Arjen, I can totally relate to your sensory loss. Mine has been gone going on four years. I use vanilla/caramel in my coffee to flavor it. It helps a little. I miss the taste of steak, pizza and pasta the most. I just close my eyes and remember how it's supposed to taste. Elizabeth, if I may be so bold, you are breaking new ground with these interviews. I think it's wonderful. Get Tuomas or Floor and RU-vid will explode! Thank you for all the work that I know goes into something like this. Please stay safe...
Arjen is one of my favorite musicians of all time, let alone still producing music. Him discussing the tone in 01011001 shifting due to depression from his anosmia means I'm going to have to listen to it again through that lens. One of my favorite Aryeon albums for sure.
I was going to say that 01 is my favorite album but maybe it's just because it was my introduction to Ayreon and all the other Arjen projects (Ambeon, Guilt Machine, Star One, the first album by Stream of Passion, The Gentle Storm and of course his solo stuff)
How delightful to see you do an interview with the master of Metal Opera. I have been a fan of Arjen's work for decades. Ever since I heard him first play in the band 'Vengeance' (and even in 'Bodine' before that) up until the projects he's doing now. I even met the guy a couple of times and he is such a gentle, kind, humble and warm person even though he's not too comfortable around people. I was even lucky to be chosen to participate in a music video for Star One's title track of the last album (Victims Of The Modern Age), playing 'the Metal Guy' and, while Arjen was not intending to be present at the shoot, he did turn up when it was my (and the clockwork guy's) time to shoot our parts of the video. Certainly one of the best memories I have. Ayreon's song 'Day 11 - Love' (from 'The Human Equation') was the first song that really made my eyes water. Up until this day I still cannot sing along with this song without getting a lump in my throat. Really looking forward to this, and I do agree with him... I am from the Netherlands myself and Dutch really is a terrible language. 😂
My dear Elizabeth, what a wonderful interview. I hope one day Floor Jansen will have the time to have such a long and great in depth conversation with you. She is a very good friend and musical partner and colleague from Arjen as you know, he could give her good references to you and your work. Would make us Floor and Nightwish fans very, very happy. Blessings to you!
You should burn theirs instead… Also I heard there are functions on any computer and phone to set an alarm (and/or reminder) The time is set. You shouldn’t miss this tomorrow.
One of my most looked-forward-to-est of interviews. Arjen brings so much joy not only through his music, but through his interactions around the music.
Hi!!! In the last albums Arjen collaborates, among others, with Hellscore. Hellscore is a totally a cappella metal choir conducted by Noa Gruman, an amazing singer, former student of Floor Jansen. Since they are AWESOME, please people, go to their YT pages, enjoy the music and send them some love!!!
This is awesome! I know Amanda Somerville is one of the guests on his latest albums (Transitus). What a powerhouse of a vocalist! One of my favorite female vocalists of all time. Maybe a reaction on Amanda in the future. :) Big part of Avantasia, Exit Eden, etc...
Great one, Elizabeth, i've met the tall guy couple of times and he's always been very nice, even comlimented me for my video i made from the gig where he was on stage, it's on my youtube :) you're the best young lady, keep it up !!
This tea time interview will be one hell of a challenge to compete with. You and Arjen - different backgrounds - different everything - you were just excellent to each other... This was great. Period.
It's hard nowadays to find good artists interviews. This one is an absolute bliss. Time to think, time to speak, time to connect. Gives a different depth on an artist works. I'm so grateful to have access to these on RU-vid. Thank you :)
What a wonderful interview. I never thought of it, but it makes sense that Arjen is a Tangerine Dream fan. I love 'em too! I also love that he mentioned Rush's "2112"! It's a long song, but you'll love it when you have the time to get to it, Elizabeth. :)
Exciting. I'm new to him too. Aren't we getting so much out of these reactions. You, brought me to Nightwish n Floor too. Keep on keeping on Elizabeth.
He started as a guitar player for Bodine, then Vengeance. Nowadays he makes even more awesome music under the names: Ayreon, Star One, Ambeon, Guilt Machine. Do check it out! You won't regret it!
Hey Elizabeth! This is awesome!!! So excited to see your interactions! Also, I would like to recommend, for the future, for you to possibly preview over the wonderful music from Disney’s newest film “Encanto”!! It’s just the sort of musical theatre type songs that I think you’d love! Excited for later!!
Dear Elizabeth, Loved the interview.Arjen name checked a British Prog band from the 1970's - Gentle Giant- unusual time signatures and unique vocal arrangements I am sure you would enjoy.I'd recommend the song 'On reflection' from their 1978 BBC programme Sight and Sound in concert. I couldn't find a link that worked. Fellow you're Jus JP did a reaction and may help you get hold of it. Alternatively Dr Doug Helvering did a reaction toe Steven Wilson re-mix of the album Freehand and may help supply an audio only version. All the best from the UK. Rhod Watts.
They say Dave Grohl is the nicest guy in rock...... I say he is a great 2nd .. Arjen is without doubt clear Number 1, the most generous, genuine, engaging, open, beautiful soul... Oh yes.... and a genius to boot.!
As far as vocal range goes I’d say you should react to Skid Row’s ‘ I Remember You ‘ because Sabastian Bach is known for having one of the best voices hands down. Also, you might react to Steelheart’s ‘ I’ll Never Let You Go ‘ and Slaughter’s ‘ Fly To The Angels ‘.
Dutch is a beautiful language, Arjen! Think of all the great idiomatic expressions we have, and the way we can change them around to fit the story we're telling.
Aanrader.
The Human Equation is still the greatest concept album I've ever heard. It's brilliant from start to finish. In a perfect world we would have a film production on the Opera
A bit late for this reply but there was a live performance called The Theater Equation which was a reenactment of The Human Equation with the whole cast! It's fantastic.
Speaking of metal opera... RHAPSODY I'm still surprised no metalheads have mentioned them. They're a power metal band fronted by Fabio Leone who is an opera singer himself. Additionally, their albums are basically a DnD campaign in musical form. Sir Christopher Lee narrates some verses and sings as well.
I am very happy because Arjen said he loves glam rock. This genre has so much bad reputation (in my opinion because Nirvana and all this movement of 90s). It's nice to hear that someone love this style too :)
I have been seeing reaction video's for half a year and enjoy all your reactions. You know your vocal stuff. This is my first time I have seen a tea-time with you. You did a great interview and showed that you are a lovable lady. I have to sheck your old ones. Keep up this goog work.
Yes we finally get an interview with the Hippie, love his music. I have all Ayreon and star one albums on cd and saw both ayreon concerts. Arjen is a great composer, guitarist and singer. Can't wait. Greetings from the Netherlands
Arjen is the best. SO many times he has responded to comments I have made on his RU-vid videos and Facebook posts. Despite his seeing in himself a not really "nice" studio perfectionist, he is in fact a very thoughtful, kind and friendly human being who is definitely excellent to others. Even when deleting comments Arjen does it with thoughtfulness, class, & dignity. He genuinely cares about his fans and doesn't take us for granted. I positively adore him and His music.
Arjen ist amazing! He is funny and down to Earth. I can confirm he writes back to even the most ridiculous fan mail. Quite a long time ago I wanted to shoot a short film for a student project, where a guy lost on an airport meets his favorite musician.... So I imagined Arjen playing in it and... I don't know what I was thinking, but I wrote to him. He actually replied short after, saying he may consider doing it if it is professionally done. Unfortunately, the project didn't happen due to factors out of my control related to schedules and production crew, but the fact that he wrote back and was supportive meant the world to me. ❤
Totally agree with the "dynamics" stuff, thats why i was always a fan of prog/symhonic rock/metal. In the 70s-80s it was more stuff like Yes, Genesis and Pink Floyd for me and from Metal bands i mostly just prefered the ballads (but i also loved Stargazer and the whole Rising album) and in the late 90s it was first Lana Lane and then i discovere Nightwish, Within Temptation, and since then its mostly symphonic metal. Meanwhile i also really love the full power songs of Lovebites, but the more dynamic ones are still the ones i love the most. Also of course melody is important here, and thats why i will never like Rap since its just speech over rythm with not much dynamic or melody, so i never get why its so popular these days.
Arjen you are so humble, what I heard people want to work with you cuz you are an amazing person and composer. That you got Mr.Dan Swanö on an album says it all :) this was a treat to watch! Thank you both, well spent 2 hours!
This was so much fun to watch! Same age as Arjen, I can relate to so many songs he mentioned: Kashmir, Stargazer... "Love is all" sung by RJD is absolutely amazing! You should look up the story of the whole album. Just then listen to that song. Let's stay excellent to each other!
Wow, what an excellent interview. I'm 4 years younger than Arjen but can relate to a lot of stuff he said since in the end we grew up more or less with the same music. And yeah, i also love "2112" from Rush, and I think its time for a reaction to that one 😄🤘🏼
Among all the attributes Arjen has, his ability to listen to the question being asked without talking over or interrupting is impressive. It is a pointer to his interest and connection that he brings to his relationships. Seems very genuine and honest and I listened to every word. Inspiring
This interview is an absolute dream. Been a huge fan of Arjen since maybe 2002 or so when I discovered the 2 Universal Migrator discs and was blown away. Love all his works. To see him interviewed by Elizabeth on one of my absolute favorite channels was just amazing. To hear Arjen talk about his love for two of my favorite bands, RUSH and TANGERINE DREAM, was just icing on the cake. Elizabeth, you must check out his INTO THE ELECTRIC CASTLE album. One of my favorite concept albums of all time :-)
