A science teacher from Rochester, New York, made good on his decades-old promise to watch the total solar eclipse in 2024 with his students. More than 100 of Mr. Moriarity’s former students gathered with to watch the cosmic event upstate.

I’m sure he takes care of himself. Healthy diet and lifestyle will go a long way in preserving youthfulness. You cannot change your genetics but you certainly can change your lifestyle.

He kept a promise for 46 years and I still haven't met anyone who can keep a promise for 46 seconds. A rare person, who created his own rare event, far more inspiring than any solar eclipse in the past half-century. I wish more news stories looked like this.

Had some great students back then too. I teach college level physics & astronomy, but for one semester a high school wanted an astronomy teacher so I figured why not (inner city high school mind you) and yeah... that was rough. Meanwhile, I get high school aged kids coming to my college because they can't get the education at their current school or whatever, and they almost always are an absolutely delight, such that if I had a classroom of that type of high school student it would be fantastic!

Science teachers for me were always the nicest. Everyone has a different experience. Physics teacher, biology, environmental teachers were all awesome. Especially physics one

Science was always my favorite subject. Lot of the teachers I had helped with that. Now a senior in HS. I've always felt like many science teachers seem to be the most interactive/good demeanors. That's just from my experience.

I Traveled 300 km with 58 students of my Ecology Class just to see the eclipse with them and give them an unique experience! i hope to live that in the next eclipse 27 years in the future!

I had two science teachers like this in junior high. I am still in contact with one via Facebook over 20 years later. I have also gone back to visit my old drama teacher. Some teachers really do leave an impact

I love my old drama /english teacher. He had such a positive impact on my high school experience. I’m friends with him 28 years later. Drama was where I fit in and made so many friends. Loved it so much!

That’s awesome. I was a smart azz, teenager, it was years later that I learned one of my teachers was at D-day in Normandy. If I only realized it then, I would have been a much better student. Sometimes life teaches you a lesson later on in life. Kudos to the teacher who obviously left a mark on his many students. What a nice story for what is happening in the world today.😊

Now this is a perfect example of how a great teacher touches the minds of his students. I have to admit I giggled at the "Will there be a test on Friday?" comment from his former student. Great sense of humor!! Teachers like him are far, few, and between and deserve the recognition (be it small or big) like this so they know that they made a difference... much like his former student who became an Earth Science teacher like him. That's a longest class assignment I've heard of! 😂😂😂 In all honesty though, this just speaks volumes of how a great teacher can have enormous possitive influence in someone's life. Unfortunately, my instructor, "the one" which marked my life and path passed away from cancer. Wherever you are, I miss you Mrs. Shannon. But im thankful to have had you and to be able to convey to you how importan you were to me 20yrs later. ❤
