As a parent, if I were ever in that situation, I’d like to think I’d be brave like this man and hope I could give all the kids a fighting chance to make it to shore. RIP, sir. ♥️♥️
Humans are definetely on menu for white sharks in Australia. No mistaken identity here. Appears the shark was in predation mode and stalked the surfers. I think the best bet is to huddle up and swim in together.
@@cwatson42785 we have more attacks, but most are minor bites from smaller sharks occurring in mainly Florida. Very few serious injuries or death from these bites.. at least that’s what I’ve read and been told.
10ft? that’s not what I read on Twitter. People were saying it 20ft plus. Several tweets comparing it to the size of jaws. NY Post reported a video of an “enormous” great white following a fishing boat in the area of Simons disappearance had emerged a month prior to his attack. Also a 10ft GW shark doesn’t completely consume a man. Never heard of that
at 10 feet they are juvinilles that prefer fish- maybe 10 ft is the very start of hunting mammals ? but yeah, to consume him entirely would think it at least 4.5 mt
10 foot is the incorrect size. This attack was a 18+ footer (6 meters), this type of aggressive predation / consuming attack is characteristic of the big 4 meter + size whites, they have less fear and are determined to consume, a very different type of attack from a 3 meter shark, although a 3 meter could certainly kill a man, they are less likely to be able to dominate the encounter with an adult man and consume in a manner such as this.
RIP Simon. Total respect for your bravery and heroic actions. On another attack just in a 22 y old American tourist lond her leg in Turk and Caico islands while snorkeling with a friend 😢
Simon was a hero, that is a heroic and selfless act. As for me in the same situation, I figure the two slowest kids should buy me enough time to get safely to shore.
Based on the description he definitely knew he was making himself a target and distraction to save the rest and hoping he would make it too. But he knew the risk. Such is the greatest love, to give your life for your brother. ...😢
Swim in a pool. Every time you swim in the ocean you take a chance. Sharks are everywhere at all times. Warm water, cold water, day, night, open ocean, shallow breaks- they are there. Whether they choose to attack you is completely a roll of the dice. The ocean is their domain, not ours. I know it doesn’t happen often but it does happen-
Really sad situation here... This man was a hero for sure.. He could have thought about himself first and swam to shore but he put those kids ahead of himself... No way will I swim or surf anywhere great whites are... Bull sharks and tigers as well... Heart goes out to his family.
I would personally like to send my deepest condolences to the family of Simon Baccanello by saying you raised a TRUE 'Example' of a Man. A Selfless Protector. A Huge Loss x
@@martinjago6859 They said 10, though I agree it sounds sus. Also in Egypt, the Russian swimmer was mostly consumed by what they say was only a 10 foot tiger shark early this month and they caught it. Looks bigger to me though.
Well, many people report that you dont feel the cuts from the bite, (teeths aré extremely Sharp on the water). I think that should be horrible drowning before the shark ends you.
Odd how a 10 footer would consume him when they are generally still feeding on fish at that size and don't seem to move onto marine mammals until they are 11-12 feet.
People don’t learn. They always think “Won’t happen to me. Attacks are rare.” Yet we see it over and over again, every summer. I routinely fish at a pier in Galveston, TX. Any given day (no exaggeration), folks catch Bull Sharks, Hammer/Bonnets, Sandbars etc. Just yesterday, someone caught a juvenile Tiger Shark. A tiger, most associated in the Caribbean and Pacific, was caught in the gulf coast of Texas. Within 100 yards of the pier, you’ll find surfers and body boarders.. as folks are catching sharks and tossing bloody bait in the water. Just insane to me.
I would like to think I would as well but none of us really know if we would be able to fight off the natural instict that's ingrained in us to try to survive.
Just to add, if its a Great White, if you're bitten by those gigantic jaws there's not much chance of survival, blood loss and shock, heart stops, it's nearly 💯 fatal. Game over. May this hero RIP
This story is so sad but I think that anyone who lives in Australia and goes to the beach or especially if you are a surfer you should take out an extra insurance policy on yourself because it's highly likely that you're gonna get eaten by a shark
Shame, when a human enters the ocean, the domain of the greatest and fiercest predator of all time, its just good fortune and luck if you survive an attack!
RIP Simon Condolences to his beloved one Thank you to the editor, just one request: please, don't say continuously "quote" ..... Whoever is not very fluent in English gets confused
These 2 attacks are 4 thousand kilometres away from each other...like mr nellist was in Cape cod Massachusetts, and this Simon was in Louisiana..if you're American this is the distance.
@@joshgee8714You also got the wrong buchan point. Its buchan point,NSW which is only 1500km away. Think you googled Buchan point,Queensland. Which is 4000km.
I might have sacrificed myself for my own relatives. But not someone i don’t know. (Some children in the sea) I dont think so . When that time comes, i am not even sure if i would stay behind for someone i love
😂 Damn, I am glad I am not someone you love. 😂 Seriously though, We don't really know how we would react until we are in that situation. I definitely would do what I could to protect and save my own children and spouse. Would I sacrifice myself for a stranger? I don't know. It depends upon how old I am at the time. If I have lived a long life and the person is a young child and still has a whole future ahead of them. Maybe I would. I really don't know.
@@aygennegya yep, I bet it does. 😂 I got bitten by a dog once, that hurt enough.. Even a nip by my hamster hurt. God knows what it's like getting bit by a shark!
Yes, I would have stayed in to protect the children. I've been a teacher and now am a substitute teacher. It is our job to protect our students, if possible. You are their acting parent until you can hand them to the next staff member or to their parent(s).
@@mommyshark1124 Thank you. But there are thousands of teachers out there who would do the same. We tend to think of our students as our children. What mother wouldn't protect their young?
@@saturnskull1242 I like Hal but it’s like he blamed his viewers for not storming the offices of RU-vid and demanding they stop messing with his algorithm lol
@@Spooky_515 he has the classic conspiracy theorist/alt right way of thinking, cause he is such a person. He even blamed the 'lefties' conspiring with youtube (hahaha hah) to bring his channel down. Totally paranoid. Also his conclusion for shark attacks were totally arbitrary, with not a scientific clue to back it up, blaming scientists, experts, etc. One thing I'll admit him though is that he is a good story teller. I also hope he's healthy, cause I'm pretty sure he had a mental meltdown... Cheers mate
Oh but remember what shark experts tell us……sharks are cuddly creatures that have zero desire to eat humans. If a shark does attack and eat a human than it’s the humans fault and not the poor friendly shark 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Renee, listen very carefully, I shall say this only once. There are nutcases at both political extremes, irrational left wing animal activists and right wing shark attack conspiracy theorists. You're obviously the one of the latter. Sharks are neither cuddly creatures nor bloodthirsty maneaters. I've yet to come across a shark expert who claims they are cuddly creatures with zero desire to eat humans but good luck finding evidence for your silly supposition.
I'm pretty sure that no one says that. What's your problem with experts ? The world would be in a sorry state without experts and expertise. People who study things for years tend to know a lot about them. Except for the quacks , every field has a few of those , they usually disagree with everyone else.
And peop!e say humans aren't on the sharks menu...hmmm I beg to differ... The shark will go looking for another human..he liked the taste..I wonder if he is the one eating people
Unless there is a shark in the swimming pool, this question would not apply to me. I would like to believe I were as brave as this young man. However, the scene from Jaws, when Brody's son freezes and treads water, and the shark scrapes him, that would be me.
@@TheRunningMan1985 They definitely have more than their fare share of highly dangerous sea creatures, including poisonous sea snakes and Box Jellyfish. No wonder it was originally founded as a type of Alcatraz Island for England.
😂 as an Aussie who usually just scrolls past comments like this, I have to answer this question. We ALL swim in the ocean! It’s there to enjoy 🤷♂️ I know it’s cliché to say so but do you travel to work in a motor vehicle? If yes then you run a statistically higher risk than I do. Driving to work one day a year is far more dangerous than me swimming in the ocean and then taking a hike in the bush every day of that same year 😳 Live life and enjoy it, you’re never guaranteed a tomorrow! Whether it’s driving to work or swimming in the ocean…. When your time comes, it comes. 😂🍻🇦🇺
My brain tells me that i would, my heart tells me that i would, i hope i would be brave enough to act to save the kid's. It's easy to say you would, but until faced with that choice, no one truly knows.
While the chances may be remote according to what we're told, I just don't understand why you would put yourself in a situation where you're basically one of the lower links in the food chain.
Hell no I wouldn’t sacrifice myself cause I wouldn’t be that stupid to go in the ocean don’t people realize there are big ass sharks in there and it’s their HOME not ours
Just because there is no remains doesn't mean the shark that attacked him consumed them. And to the people mourning the loss: It is wise to remember that he went into the water at his own risk and it would be illogical to blame the shark. This is a very rare occurrence as very few people are actually eaten by sharks.
Seems like more and more humans are on the menu in the last 20 years and thats only the ones reported and the ones known of there are many countries where missing swimmers aren't ever even reported missing some probably swimmers but some um sure shark attacks 😢
I was swimming about 300 yards off shore in hawaii with a bunch of friends ...men and women...i thought i saw a massive great white shark swimming towards us...my instinks were to swim towards it to deter it from coming close cause i feel people would have panicked and caused an attack...i swan by my self towards it and it turned out to be a commercial fishing net shaped like a shark....thank god..... We all have fears but u never know what ur gonna do when people u care about are in danger...granted i know if it was a shark it could have gone either way for me.... Ive been out body boarding many times with sharks present.... Without incident...i concider my self lucky in many aspects.
No disrespect intended...people always say r.i.p..... Id rather say fly with the angels.... To just lay and rest for an eternity sounds boring....a spirit such as his could not stay idle.... Peace brother....
