TEAM TALK: $200,000 BASS BOAT IS HERE!!! (REACTION!)
We'd never thought this day would come but unfortunately we think that it's here. The $200,000 bass boats are among us and it's kinda mind blowing. Now, we will say that what's pushing these numbers higher and higher are the cost of electronics. However, $200k is $200k! What's going on in the pro fishing world? 7-8 graphs, 22" units, are they over compensating for something??? Probably! The pro circuit needs to have regulations immediately implemented for electronics. I mean, 4 graphs on the front and 3-4 on the console are just ridiculous.

I don’t fish competitively, never have and never will. I go fishing to get away from technology and I have no problem getting skunked, this is why I love throwing big swimbaits and glide baits.

I agree with you on how crazy it has become. My very first boat... seems like a century ago 🤔 😕... I had a flasher .. it was round and the lights flasged around it to show depth and fish lol primitive lol. Plus I had a "state of the art device ". You lowered, by hand, a probe over the side into the water. It told you water temperature and.. this was b8g, what color bait / lure to use ! Plus yes, we used the floats to mark the spot. Trolling motors didn't have foot pedals / controls either. You could put an extension on it so you could use your foot to move it in the direction you wanted to go. But it was operated by hand. No power poles... good old anchors lol... and if you were really up town. You had the anchors front and rear with either a hand crank or electric winch !!! Boats didn't require a second mortgage either lol....

I still have my old 1980s Humming bird flasher unit. Still working just fine. I did have a Lowrance paper graff. Im showing my age now. I bought a 16 foot Fishermarine marsh hawk 3V aluminum bass boat in 1983 with a 30HP Yamaha outbound on it. I still use and my son uses it. I'm 71 and don't fish as much as I use to. But i must say this whole rig has been a great buy. Andy thanks for your videos and by the way i had a 19 foot 1992 Champion DCR with a 200 hp Evenrude. Sold it 4 years ago that was the best riding boat ever. People that went out with me couldn't believe the ride. Had a stroke back in 2017 so i had to stop fishing tournaments. Realized I wouldn't be able to use it anymore because of balance. Andy keep up the great work and stay safe. I know you love Champion boats. Andy those floating markers I still have and still use them.

Miss the old days back in the 90s when everyone had to run a 150 in competition and had a flasher at the console. And yet, pros caught plenty of fish. $30k for a loaded bass boat back then sounds insane in our current world.

Fished with my dad using a Lowrance "Green Box". At some point we had a Lowrance x15? Paper graph, a couple lcd graphs, and now HDS. I keep a half dozen marker buoys in the boat still.

Some would say 3 or 4 is over the top but I get it. It makes you more efficient. Some of them setups in Chris's video are ridiculous. If I saw that at the boat ramp, I would laugh. I wouldn't think that person can fish, I would think they just want to show off how much money they have

It’s not going to stop until guys have a live video feed under the water with a camera that can cut thru the murky water. And then have a rod that makes the perfect cast out to the fish based on what the monitor tells your rod/reel.

I finally just bought a Garmin and livescope for my boat and it was basically $5,000 after buying a new lithium battery to run clean power to three graphs total. One at the console and two up front and $300 of that was for the install. One of the hardest parts so far is learning how to fish again because it changes everything. That's why the new kids are so effective because livescope is all they've known. The veterans have all the years worth of shit in their head that they're thinking of rather than focusing on learning the new technique.

Hahahahha! We are at the 100k v bottoms, it’s official. Crestliner quote for a new 2250 Sportfish with mercury 250 and just 2 hummingbirds (one 9” on the dash and one 9” on the bow cause I’m on a dad budget) was $78k in the spring of 2020. I didn’t order so they kept the quote on file to torment me with an updated price email every spring. Spring of 2024 it was $104k and change! Can you imagine if I really “invested” in a high class electronics setup!?!?! It’d be at least $120k! I can still remember being in my dad’s boat in the mid 1990s with only a factory installed flasher on the dash for electronics in the entire boat! We caught fish steady every time out on the river - LMFAO!

The funny thing is I got into kayak bass tournament to keep cost down and lean towards simplicity. Nowadays people are putting 5-10k worth of electronics on kayaks but I refuse to go that route just to stay competitive. 🤷‍♂️

Watch some of the old BASSMASTER tournaments from the 90s and early 2000s there are no graphs on the front of the boat, it is really out of control. Last year was the 1st year I had a graph on the front of my boat.

A paper graph. Yup, knew them well. Back in the day when flashers were still standard on most new boats (mounted in the console), and the hottest new fish finder was the Hummingbird Red ID. Funny to think that that Hummingbird LCD unit was once top line stuff. Thisis going back to the color selector days, but that is a different video.

Andy, I watched this twice. I contacted Retired Pro, now guide, Steve Daniel, down in Okeechobee, that he discuss this on his weekly radio show every Saturday at 0500 on WOKC. He’s definitely old school fishing as I am. I’m not demonizing those that can afford & use it. I’d like to be in a boat that has it just to observe. I’m blown away watching the videos and live coverage on FFS. I’m in FL where hydrilla is everywhere. Not sure how I’d use it. Dustin Connell just won MLF using it AGAIN … and yes I had a paper graph, marker buoys, & flashers. An ol fart following your shows. Always interesting to me. All the best sir. I agree it's getting waaay out of hand. The tournaments should have some type of limits, number of transducers & screens or a total square inch of screen space you can have? Something?... I'm open to whatever. But it's only gonna get worse! I'm fine with FFS, I'm not against it. I have it with a 10" Garmin on my kayak. But when it's starting to seem like the electronics is main focus of success catching fish & winning tournaments. I'm starting to become not very impressed.

i make mid 6 figures and i can't imagine dumping that much cash into this. im happy with my 2 graphs. some of those guys in zaldains video didnt even touch a top 10 in the last 4 years. most them guys didnt even know how much the setups were. leads me to think the graph companys are just throwing products at them

Not going to lie, my dad still runs a paper graph on his little river boat...it's insane what he can see on there. This shit is out of control. These electronics packages cost more than my wife's SUV. I gave up on even local tournaments because I can't afford to keep up with even these guys...my kids sports and well-being is much more important. It became a complete elitist sports, It's a damn shame. Great video guys.

Nice work Andy & Co., "Flashers, paper graphs, marker boey's, and lining up landmarks" dam I'm getting old. Have 9" Garmin's now, but still use my flasher religiously for running because it's an instant bottom read. I think the next industry move will be digital processors and Ai that will turn the screens into video game pictures of what's below. I get it, but now days I'd rather go fishing that watch TV.

Love your videos.....suggestion/question for you. Why don't you ever review a center console boats like Boston whalers or walleye boats etc. would love some insight on boats and quality of manufacturers. I fish lake Erie on Ohio side alot and see many different boats and styles. Just a suggestion for some different content maybe. I'm not sure how much of those style boats are up your way but just throwing it out there

Started with a pre WW2 row boat. Graphs? We got no stinkin' GRAPHS! 1968 Didn't get into any type of graph until late 70's (flasher) and the paper came out in early 80's or sometime then. Had one of those too! Topo maps and time on the water was how we caught fish then. Now, 10" Hummin'bird - down & side on dash & 9" down on the nose. Still, I use the "time on the water more than either graph. They do help though. Just put on a 36 volt spot lock Minn. and a Suzuki 200 to upgrade the old & tired Yamaha HPDI. 70 years old and speed wasn't the main concern more reliability. Put these young bucks in a boat without all the electronics and see how they do against some of us "oldtimers"!

Remember this competition fishing is not fun..watch the weigh ins..I used to do it..when its over you beat your self up on why I didn't do better..now I fish 4 days a week and have a blast doing it..this will surly kill the sport if they don't back up..fish to enjoy..God bless..

Yep...In Zaldains video, they never mentioned, lithium batteries, mounting hardware and the installation costs. That's probably another 5-10k on top of the graphs and transducers.

Ultimately for true competition there needs to be a limit on it. I think 1 brand of electronics on your boat one 3&1 transducer one live transducer and two 15” screen. This would limit costs make technology better because brands would have to compete for the business and would bring back sponsorship for electronics.

Still have my Lorawrnce flasher originally purchased in 1982 lol does everything I need on the isolated small lakes we fish where all you see is wildlife from one shoreline to the other lol. No jet skis no speed boats no million dollar homes just peace a quite until you see bald eagles 🦅 fly overhead looking to pick off your catch as you real it in.

I’ll stick with my 10 foot pelican bass raider and mud motor. I can go anywhere a kayak goes and on full plane at 20mph. $1000 I do take my $3000 mobile livescope unit with me tho. Ha
