I know i had a good Tecumseh on my old go kart, i had issuse with that kart, the clutch would stay locked on and wouldn't release, and i went down a hill faster than the motor could even do free revving, that thing screamed, hummed, every noise possible, and it managed to stay together, how idk but it was somthing else.
I took a B&s 5hp apart today. Gas tank was filled with 95% water, crankcase was filled with 95% water, pison was seized. So I cleaned it all out (purple, water hose, then gasoline), unseized the piston, took off carb, and found I have a valve stuck up. Took of cover to valve rods, looks like might be some damage along travel, indicating more damage inside. So I removed all bolts and tapped case just as you did in this video to to break seal, but my crankcase case is not coming off.
i have a techusume 10 hp engine for lawnmower, i was told they do not make that moter any more and i cant get a piston replacement, can i use a biggs piston n rod for it if so can u give me parts number so i can buy the piston and rod and rings for my engin thanks.
I think the reason these engines fail is from constant overspeeding and people messing with the engine governors to get their snowblowers to throw the snow farther. Here's a tip that always worked for me. Take your time through heavy snow and if you insist on running full throttle, DON'T! back it off a little from full and give the engine a chance to work.
One more thing, if you are not sure on how a engine governor works, don't mess with it! Call a mechanic like Donyboy73 to help you. If you suspect your engine is over speeding, back off the throttle. It just might save your engine.

How many of these crankshafts Etc are the same across models seems very expensive to make a separate crankshaft for each and every model each and every manufacturer
Why is it blown?what is the cause of the damage of the connecting rod ? Lack of oil? Or very bad quality of the pieces? Tell me please i bought a tecumseh 10hp LH358XA to make a gokart.
The exact same thing happened to a 70's briggs and stratton engine from roto tiller that a family member let me have to take apart. I kept the valves(springs, keepers etc), the gas tank and the piston. I also have the connecting rod, but its chewed up, and I just kept it for show. I would have kept the crankshaft but it had a little more aluminum and scrapes than yours did. Plus I couldn't get it off. When I saw this video it was like deja vu, some black(dirty) oil and twisted metal.
i have a 7hp tecumseh that has blown a connecting rod and the crank shaft has aluminum stuck to it like the one in that engine you think i can clean it or should i get a new crank shaft
Hey, I just got a free 4HP Tecumseh engine from someone. When I got it home, I had noticed that there was a hole in the side of the case, I gave it a good shake and pieces of the rod started to fall out! Is it possible that the hole was created when the rod blew?!
depends if the bits are imbedded or just stuck , if imbedded definitely a new crankshaft as to much damage could be done to the shaft, if its just stuck & not imbedded try to clean it off using something abrasive but be careful not to damage or mark any bearing are of the shaft as this will result In premature wear
Think about it logically, do you run your car at full throttle all the time? Of course not. Do the same with your small engines. Use a high quality engine oil and change it religiously! Don't wait till the oil looks like roofing tar to change it. If you follow this I guarantee your small engine will last for decades. I never had one oil related failure in 30+ years.
