One of my favorite songs from my favorite band from the 1980's, TFF....I personally connected with this song, growing up with a narcissistic father who physically, mentally and emotionally abused my poor mother till the day she died, and practically dictated life for me and my sisters..Their earlier albums, especially THE HURTING was therapeutic for me....
When I first heard this, it sounded plain compared to their other songs, but something about the message stuck with me. As I heard it again, I began to love it and the intricate subtle details in the song. The more you listen to it, the more beautiful it gets. I later began to love it as it helped me realize the personal prison I was in. I can't listen without crying 😢😢😢
I think the video was about abuse. I think Roland's father abused his mother, but I also saw an interview where he said the song is also about allowing males to express their softer sides.
You may not know but there are actually 2 drummers on this track. A guy by the name of Manu Katche who has played with the likes of Peter Gabriel, and the 2nd drummer is the legend himself, Phil Collins... Of note also Collins and Gabriel both were in the band Genesis together before establishing their legendary solo careers.
Also Phil Collins didn't have that much of a solo career after Genesis outside the odd film soundtract song, contrasted to Gabriel who still does stuff even now if at a slower pace. The cover he did of the song "My Body Is A Cage" still gives me chills when remembering it being used on the soundtrack of House.
Well done guys, I really enjoyed this review. Please do Advice For The Young At Heart (Curt on Lead Vocal) and Sewing The Seeds Of Love (Roland on lead vocal)
It is a double message to this songs the woman in the video feel trapped to he man much like Mother Earth feel abused by humanity from pollution and radiation waste.....so, we need to free her but doing the right things to make sure she grows much like the man did in the video in letting his woman go.....
