I think all companies should break in all subs as a form of quality control. Not to mention the people that don't know they need to break them in and try to give then full power right out the package. Sub breaks and then it's "their own fault"

Well, I'm from the old school way of break-in. Setup my amplifier spec to final load ( so you don't have to re-tone it later ) play 4 to 5 different tracks " song's " with different bass hits for about the first two weeks at about 10 to 15 percent volume. Each time i lower the volume for cooling off period. Start to increase the volume after two weeks until i reach about 50% volume. Once i hit that level, I'll just turn it down for a song or two before turning off vehicle. Never had any issues 😎👍🏾

It's been my experience that the first few months of play depending on how much you drive the vehicle and listen to the subwoofer or subwoofers ....that they all give off some odor ...I always turn my stuff down when the smell appears....run it at a lowers volume for a while the gradually increase volume until I am back to the point where the smell was achieved in the first place ....all this below the clipping point ...I don't adjust gain on amp just use volume on head unit and bass remote to my amp ....that being said I also never try and push a sub to hard for at least 3 months but I don't drive the vehicle I have my system daily so it just depends on how much you are using the sub or subs.....but again that's just me
@rayproductionsbackupchanne3862
So is the smell actually bad? I've heard mixed answers..most of them were about excessive glue burning off or the adhesive heating up for the first few times. My ground zero did the smell after doing a few short tests at about 400 watts (RMS of sub is 1000)

Is there any danger of coil heat damage by playing a continuous tone for hours on end? Or is the subwoofer designed to play indefinitely so long as the power is at or below its rms? And lastly is there a away to determine the subwoofers coil thermal limit? Thanks for your reply. -Cheers mate.

If it was half turn [ 12 o’clock position clockwise] knob, turn that down to 4 o’clock counter clockwise and like the guy in the video said .. just keep raising the gain slowly every few hours to allow more power in to kick it deeper and deeper..

Popular companies (99%) say baking the speakers, treats this as an advertising gimmick. Apparently there are differences, but they can be recognized by such a small number of people that you never wait for it to bother. Well, unless you are an avid audiophile and gel, you have above average hearing, but you won't get anything in your phone. I will add that I read somewhere that it takes a long time to heat up, for sure a few (next) days non-stop 24h. But if you want, warm it up - it will never hurt your speakers.
@blakebrockhaus347
@blakebrockhaus347 3 года назад
There's a difference between breaking in audiophile speakers, and DD subwoofers. Audiophile speakers are very soft and don't move much. So a lot of the time it doesn't really matter. Car subwoofers are a totally different animal. They tend to be super stiff and move a ton. This means that the spider has to accommodate a ton of travel. With DD subs specifically, the spider is so stiff when you first get the sub that it'll reduce power handling pretty significantly

What a hassle having to play a sub in a constant drone for 24 hours or more... Especially after you have spent $2000 plus! You have to do it this way, and that way, and at this many hz and make a box and blar blar blar! Nobody wants to do this ridiculous job, it’s so inconvenient. Everyone just wants to get their new sub and have it play perfectly the second they get it home. And don’t say it’s like a pair of shoes! Cause it’s not! What a joke!

Robot Underground doesn't agree with this. And neither do I. Breaking in subwoofers is not needed. You break them in by playing them. You don't need to do "50HZ cycle for 40 minutes" or anything like that. Just take the subs, throw them into the box, and start beating on them. THAT's what breaks them in. Robot Underground knows what he's talking about, people.

Exactly... they will naturally loosen up, and sound will improve over a few weeks.
@TheBurnout96
@TheBurnout96 2 года назад
Wrong. I build subwoofers for friends and family. And they often don't know anything about that subject but want maximum performance. If you dial in your amp for the max output and tell them, that they should not exceed a certain volume level, you run into issues if the sub is not broken in yet. When the sub breaks in, fs drop and more amps run through it you might run into the problem, that you're pushing over rms and exceed xmax. These people don't know that and they'll come to me when it's already too late. So breaking in a subwoofer makes sense. Maybe not for your usecase, but for some others out there.
@nickrose8733

No break in is necessary. I've argued this with many of my fellow BassHeads. Even JL Audio put out a article that it's totally unnecessary. Just match the right amp, run them at recommended specs and your fine. People say you can smell them burning up. That's usually just the extra glue from new speakers which will burn off when it's done wether you run it for 24 hours or slowly for weeks.

No, it actually helps when you have a stiffer spider, I got the red spider on my sundown ns v4 that mf wouldn’t move with my hand, 10 hours of play later and it moves more freely

Why does sundown make subwoofers and say don’t break them in just put full power into them? How does it “break in”when you don’t give it max power to flex everything? At low power you’ll only flex a small part of the spider/surround not letting anything else “break in”. Next video is going to explain how to break in tires and belts. Lol so stupid.

Guessing 99.9% of people don't break in their subs. Too much time and effort.
