Lara has been classically trained more than 10 years in Royal Conservatoire of Brussels. And she continues to receive vocal lessons on a daily basis. She said she would have pursued a career of opera soprano if she was not first and foremost a songwriter. She went the pop path just because of this.
Ten years? No wonder she is so good. I worked in Brussels from 1990 to 1997. Maybe I travelled in the same tram as Lara without knowing it. However, I first heard this song when it was sung by Helene Fischer, and because of that, it remains my favourite version. Helene (who does not even read music) spent two years at a performing arts college in Frankfurt. She went on to become Germany's most successful female pop singer ... ... ... ever. I don't believe she learnt anything at this college. This is a talent she was born with. And, as a bonus, she happens to have the most beautiful face I have ever seen. Unfortunately, in search of ever greater adulation from her fans, she seems to determined to kill herself. But that is another story.

Certainly the best female rendition ever, but, (and gender is in no way raised by me with intent), you must, if you have not done so already, please listen to the version by Julio Iglesias. There is a SPECIFIC version of his, as he has now performed this song a million times! The version that I ask you to listen to is from his album CRAZY. It is performed in his native tongue of Spanish. It is the version I always come back to, despite an earlier comment of mine in this same chain of "comments" siding with Lara! Lara and Julio are the only two performers that should be legally allowed to sing this. Pavarotti's attempt was hideous. Kindest regards, Brian.

@@shanefrancis368 Pavarotti is absolutely terrible when it comes to Caruso. He even has to change it midway through in order to adjust to his range. Really shocked you put him forward. Caruso should only be performed by Lara and Julio, both in isolation rather than as a duet.
Caruso, is an italian song, written, composed and performed in 1986 by Lucio Dalla as a tribute to Enrico Caruso, the most famous tenor of his time (late 19th / early 20th century). He was the first global singing superstar. The story is about the last days of Enrico Caruso, he knows he is dying, and he is remembering all his career on stage and telling his much younger wife how much he loves her. It has very quickly become a classic of italia music and the biggest names have covered it (Julio Iglesias, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, …. and of course Luciano Pavarotti). But for many, Lara's version is the best ever, as she was able, with her unique ability to convey the emotions of a song, to reveal the real sad story written by Lucio Dalla. I was told that Lucio Dalla himself, after hearing this performance, said that she made it her song and this is the best version he has heard from it. For Lara, this song is really important as this is a kind of anthem for Italy, and she is so much connected to this country. She spent the first few years of her life there with her sicilian mother and grandma. Her husband is also sicilian.
I'm pretty convinced she could soothe a badger with her voice. She'd Sing that badger a lullaby and he'd be on his back drooling and sleeping like a baby in just a few short minutes.

Great, one of my favorite performances of Lara, been loving the original by Lucio Dalla since an Italian friend introduced me to it in the late 80ies, and Lara did it more than justice... - great reaction, thank you! Lara singing this still gives me shivers and goosebumps every time I get back to it, absolute masterclass in storytelling combined with a masterclass in vocal techniques - can't get any better... Btw. I'm still hoping you'll get into Isyana Sarasvati again at some point, her new piano version of "Unlock The Key" is another masterclass in music... Peace and love from Bavaria!

Great, heart warming even, to see new knowledgeable people experience The Queen's masterpiece interpretation and execution of this beautiful song about the dying days of the great Enrico Caruso. How sad he and his young wife (and child) must have been. Fun fact - in the song she of of Sorrento - in the words you will see it as the Gulf of Sorrento where Caruso and his stayed in a hotel. She however sings "Surriento" not Sorrento. Neapolitans pronounce it that way and Caruso was from Napoli, and would have said it that way. Lara. Misses. Nothing. I hope you do more reactions to Lara, our Queen, long may she reign.
I can feel the passion you feel in listening to good music and, between us, you are also a very good performer. Lara Fabian has the great quality, in addition to the vocal one, to best represent the emotions of the piece. However, I must also say that Lucio Dalla, author of the song, had a voice that pierced your heart.
"Te voglio bene assais" = "I love you very much".........this piece is so moving.....that's why all the great ( and near great ) operatic vocalists, male and female, have performed it......

Started listening to this song several months ago by different artists. Love her rendition, but think I'm more of an Andrea Bocelli fan. Of course I don't speak Italian, but l have the lyrics singing along. 😂 Loved your reaction. Maybe one day we'll hear you sing this song.
I agree. Lara sings to perfection. And we should take our hats off to Lucio Dalla, who wrote this exquisite song, in memory of the great tenor. I first heard it sung by Helene Fischer, and that is my first preference (probably out of habit). Do we need to see quite so much of Lara's chest?
