Keep in mind this album is getting very close to turning 50 years old ! That speaks volumes about the music that came out of the 60's and the 70's and the longevity it still has in today's society ! There was so much raw talent in the artist back in the day before everything became synthesized and auto tuned !! Glad to see the younger generations still enjoying it as much as we did !!

I would totally watch a video of you playing Songbird on the piano. Another incredible song from this album. I also love the verses because of that uneven rhythm and drawn-out phrasing and the compactness of the voices. You can hear the pain in it and yet it still sounds mysterious and I love it. I would say I don't love it any more than any other song on the album, simply because I literally love every song on this album, just each song in its own way. They are all masterpieces to me. And the album flows so well. This is one of those albums that you can just put on loop and it just feels so good every time around.

@metalmark1214

This began as a Christine McVie song called "Keep Me There," which is available on the expanded edition of Rumours. Nicks gave them the lyrics for the verses, Lindsey Buckinghan and Christine McVie wrote the music and the chorus lyrics, Lindsey added the guitar over the ending, and "The Chain" as we know it was born The ending was the only thing left from McVie’s original track; we ended calling it “The Chain” because it was a bunch of pieces. "The Chain" is one of only a few Fleetwood Mac songs whose authorship is credited to all members of the band at the time.
@Fallen616
@Fallen616 Год назад
Actually it was Stevie who wrote the iconic chorus, and Buckingham & Christine wrote the verses. The chorus was part of another Nicks-penned ballad for the album which was dubbed, “The Chain demo.”

I love how the vocals drag like a heavy chain, which can hold the love together or drag it down. And how Stevie's voice actually sounds like a rattling metal chain when she harmonizes on this. Silas, your joy is a joy to watch! You're so lucky to be hearing this for the first time. My high school friends and I used to listen to this album, blaring out the car windows as we skipped class (not recommended!) to cruise to the Potomac River on a pretty day.

Back in the mid-late 70’s the thing was to have stereo systems that could push 100-250 watts per channel. With those systems you could get the feel of what being at an actual concert was like as the sound would be vibrating in your chest! The whole room would be shaking! It was FANTASTIC! Glad you enjoyed this album….next should be Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff”!Cheers

Until the 90's when I saw 2 pink floyd concerts, the Fleetwood Mac concert I saw in 77 on their rumours tour was the best concert I ever saw. That ended in 90 when I saw Pink Floyd on ther 'Momentary Lapse of Reason' tour. When they toured in 95 for the (famous) Pulse concer I saw them, also at Foxboro Stadium in MA, and the rest is history. David Gilmour blew me away when he played Comfortably Numb at the end of the cocnert, which featured songs from their new album, 'The Division Bell'. Also in that concert they played, 'High Hopes', which is the only PF song that makes me cry. Love watching you younger people enjoying the music I enjoyed in concert. I was a big concert chaser back in the day. My first concert was seeing Simon & Garfunkel in 1965, when the did their tour for 'Sound of Silence', and the rest as you know is history.

The technology of the day limited the length of time each album could be, and the standard back then was 10-12 songs per album, so therefore that limited the length of each song. Anything over 3 minutes was considered poison for radio success as well, but around this time that mold was becoming more and more extinct.

I recently saw a live version of this on another channel. Idk what year it was but it seemed not too long after the release judging by the way Stevie and Lindsay were throwing daggers back and forth throughout the song. It was wild!! I never knew about the drama in the band until seeing it live and the reactor telling the back story of the 2 breakups that were occurring in the band when this was written and recorded. Stevie Nicks and Lindsey broke up and Christine McVie and her husband John were getting a divorce. THATS INSANE! Lindsey was practically throwing a tantrum on stage but it made his singing and guitar playing so much more powerful. It's an incredible vid. I'll try to find it and come back and post for those who've never seen it. Maybe it's not an unusual performance by them but it surprised the heck out of me. Wow!
