Funny thing about Starfire turning into cat, in the comics apparently Tamaran’s evolved from Catlike creatures as we humans are to Ape’s. So she was basically de-evolved.

This is probably the best comedy episode in my opinion. Beast Boy turning back to normal from each animal still makes me chuckle. Also all those references are amazing.

One of the best episodes. Pure psychedelia. Mumbo is like the Joker, but magical and without being a complete psychopath.

Mumbo Is probably one of the most op villains in the show

The fact that this inflection of Tom Kenny is a villainous version of Spongebob makes it even better

This was always my favorite episode to feature Mumbo. Before this he was always just a side villain, but here he takes center stage. The musical number perfectly showed off Tom Kenney's singing chops too (the part where Mumbo uses his nose as a flute HAD to be a deliberate Spongebob intro reference).

For me my enjoyment of the sillier, more comedic episodes tends to depend on the villain of the episode. "Every Dog has its Day" and last week's "Can I Keep Him?" I tend to skip on my rewatches because I don't find them that funny or interesting, but Mumbo, Mad Mod, Control Freak, and the Space Tofu are so enjoyable to watch their comedy episodes can hold my attention pretty well.

Tom Kenny was literally a magician with his performance in this silly episode. Definitely one of my favorites in this series in terms of silliness.

12:38 Apparently the original concept for Mumbo was that he was originally a magic shop owner who stumble onto a real magic wand that him powers and drove him nuts, but I think they dropped this idea after his first appearance.

The goofiness of everything in this episode was fantastic

I dont know if they talk about it here, but this is the episode that gave away one of Beast Boy's most unique traits. He doesn't wear clothes. He makes basically a exoskeleton to cover himself so he can transform without worry or issue about getting new clothes everytime. I thought it was fascinating then and I still do now.

I think this episode was just an excuse for them to have Tom Kenny on the show again and have him come up with as many voices as possible. And it works.

Mumbo was a down and out magician who happened to find a wand and a hat that gave the possessor magical abilities. The world inside Mumbo's hat is a magical construct. He merely needs to imagine something while wearing the hat and it becomes real. The magic words he uses with the wand are arbitrary, again he imagines something and it becomes real. The two artifacts must both be possessed by the same person, otherwise they are ordinary, and any magic done before the artifacts are separated reverses itself and leaves reality the the way it was before the magic happened.

Wait.....wait a minute.....Why does Mumbo sound so familiarrr..... *googles* OH MY GOD IT'S FREAKING TOM KENNY WHAT A LEGEND.

I love how each season of Teen Titans have that funny episode and i cant wait for the next season. So many joke before the last episode of the show. Mumbo really being the Ice King of the crazy show. Make you wonder if Ice King really base of Mumbo

Mumbo is a pastiche of Kadabra, who uses future tech to pose as a stage magician. The is also some of William Zard, the Wizard, in Mumbo.

Cultural references The premise of this episode might be a reference to the television show Lidsville, as both feature the main character(s) going into a magician's hat and ending up in a surreal world. Plus, Mumbo's similarity to Lidsville's the Great HooDoo is also noteworthy. Mumbo has similar mannerisms to Jafar from Aladdin. In addition, the song number Master Of Your Fate is similar to "You Are Only Second Rate" from the Direct-to-video sequel "The Return of Jafar". The use of the Magic hands as well as some of the tricks he does during the song, are a reference to "Friend Like Me". The two elderly Mumbos in the loge making puns on the show are an obvious reference to The Muppet Show characters Statler and Waldorf, who likewise keep heckling with sarcastic puns in their show. The Mumbo stage manager is also an obvious reference to Scooter from The Muppet Show. When Mumbo appears as a fortune teller machine, it is a reference to the Zoltar machine from the movie Big. Starfire's quote about being a cat in a hat is an obvious reference to Dr. Seuss' "Cat in the Hat". The way that Mumbo smiles at the end of his music number is similar to how the Cheshire Cat smiles in Alice in Wonderland. When Mumbo is trying to turn Beast Boy into an animal (but failing due to his powers), he turns him into a mouse, a duck and a dog, a possible reference to Disney's famous trio of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. The Maestro at the piano is modeled after the entertainer Liberace. Beast-Boy's line at the end 'Yes! You have no bananas!' is a reference to the famous comedy song Yes! We Have No Bananas written by Frank Silver and Irving Cohn.

Great reaction as always! I think this episode is what Teen Titans Go! wanted to be. But TTG lacks the balance of comedy and deep themes that the original teen titans did so well. But to be fair to TTG it had a different vision amd wasnt trying to have a balance which is fine it's just a different type of show. But I'll always prefer the original teen titans

Trivia One of the Mumbo look-alikes called Raven’s trick "old hat", a phrase meaning old-fashioned. Referring to the fact that Raven‘s trick is merely pulling herself out of a hat. Which is one of the oldest magician tricks, commonly done with rabbit’s no less. The secret to the trick Raven used to kick Mumbo in the face from his hat seems to be that she took advantage of her circus themed magical powers. This is the only episode in the Teen Titans series with a musical number sung by one of the actual voice actors. The other instance of a musical number with an actual voice actor appears in the series finale movie, Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo. When Robin is turned into a monkey, his cape is yellow instead of its usual black resembling that of other Robins' from the comics. Raven putting Mumbo's hat makes her resemble fellow DC Comics heroine Zatanna, who was a stage magician who could create magic spells by speaking backwards. Amusingly, in the comics, when Raven sought refuge with the Justice League, Zatanna vetoed the request because she saw Raven's demonic lineage, which resulted in Raven forming the Teen Titans again in order to properly face her father. The giant cruise is named 'S.S. Youngberg', which may be named after Matt Youngberg, credited for the episode's storyboard. This episode's title song is sung in Japanese.

Goofs The penny that was pulled out from the bank teller does not show the motto 'In God We Trust'. When Robin (as a monkey) fling bananas towards giant gloves, his hands and feet were the same color as the rest of his body. There are several instances where the cages holding the Titans did not have metal grills that were facing away the camera. When Robin says "We don't have much time before the finale", his hands were shown to have 5 fingers (instead of 4 as a monkey). When Raven asked Beast Boy to turn into a paintbrush, the cage between them (including Cyborg) was not seen. The bank booths seen in the beginning of the episode appeared to have shrunk significantly at the end of the episode. When Cyborg falls on the chair in "Master Of Your Fate", it disappears for a split second.

This episode always annoyed me, They keep saying that this is an illusion, but does that mean he isn't using real magic? How did he transform their bodies if none of this is real? What is beast boy transforming into that feels like an entire phone booth? How the hell did Robin get those cans of paint if he was human and not actually turned into a monkey? They should not have gone so far if this was supposed to be faked with normal non-god level technology. At least make it like the Mad Mod episode where they can break some of the walls and see the mechanical parts.
