hello and thankyou for reacting to the best band that ever existed. In 1985 3 young norwegians started a band an released take on me asking the world to give them a chance. I was 16 at the time and instantly fell for them and their music. Moving on 37 years later i’m still a huge A-HA fan. I’m 54 now. A-HA have and continue to produce the soundtrack to my life. They’re still around and have released 11 albums. A-HA are a very criminally underrated and unappreciated band especially nowadays back in the 80’s A-HA were loved all over the world except the USA. They are considered a one hit wonder there. I hope you’ll react to more A-HA as their music is unique it’s always changing and evolving. Thanks again and Take care 😘 ❤️🇳🇴❤️A-HA FOREVER❤️🇳🇴❤️
It's bittersweet to have lived in the 80's because we knew without any doubt that we were living in the best possible times, and that they also couldn't last. Believe me when I say that if a time portal opened to the 80's, then I would step through immediately and never look back.
I grew up in the 70's and the music for the decades of the 70's and 80's were amazing. 50's and 60's weren't half bad either. I subscribed to your channel because you did a great job with the reaction and especially no vulgar language. Proud to see the cross around your neck. Will stay subscribed as long as you keep it clean and do excellent job like you did on this one. God Bless.
Its called rotoscope. Took animators months to draw every frame. Morton Harket is the lead singer and has a 5 scale octave range. Watch the second part The Sun always shines on TV. It finishes the story of the girl and her unreal guy.
This is, and always will be, the greatest music video ever made. Ahead of its time in a technical sense, but outstanding story telling with a killer song as well. The winner, and still champ!
1985 The best 80s band from Norway. The whole video was drawn out frame by frame from life (3000 drawings) took 16 weeks (no AI not computer aided shit). Check out" I've been Losing you" and the sequel to this song "The Sun Always Shines on TV", Then look for the "unplugged" version of Take On Me" Morten's vocal range is an amazing thing to hear.
ah welcome to one of the best bands ever, a band with so many styles of music. And arguably one of the best vocalist of all time. Still going to this day. Released a new album last November. , continue their journey with the next 3 singles from this their debut album, the sun always shines on tv, train of thought, and the title track hunting high and low.
Having lived as a teen in the '70s and the '80s real time here in Europe i recall Abba and The Bee Gees as well as Duran Duran and A-ha being the most popular mainstream bands of these 2 decades respectively.Do enjoy.
This is from 1985. This is technically the 3rd version of the song. The released two versions in Europe. A US producer heard them and signed them. They released the Huntin Hi and Lo album which won best new artist. ONLY one person animated the whole video. It was WAY ahead of it's time. Volkswagon did an AWESOME parody of this video years back: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-acv1_WddLdI.html
It came out in 1985. The animated scenes of the video were first shot as live action scenes and then they were animated using an animation technique called rotoscoping. It took 4 months to complete all the drawings before the video was released on MTV. In my opinion, the best music video of all times. 🙂
This guy is so sweet 😊 . It's nice to see the youngin's appreciating some of the old music. Good on him for checking some of the older stuff out there.
It's cool to see that videos that I loved when they originally came out can make young people today react with the same excitement and enthusiasm. I enjoyed watching you discover this video.
The take on me video was made using a technique called Rotescopy where individually hand drawn frames a made then live action shots are used too. The video took 6 months to make and has over 10,000 hand drawings in it. Thanks for your enthusiasm and sweet words about A-HA. Take Care. just subbed to you because you reacted to A-HA 😘
Great job kid! I've seen no less than 10 people react to this video and not only are most unimpressed, but they don't get the video! I've watched a few other of your reactions and they're great. You've got an old soul. Keep up the good work...👍👍👍👍👍
Amazing reaction to one of the most iconic music videos ever. A-ha is a Norwegian band consisting of three men. They traveled to England in the early 80's hoping for an international career, and after a bit of luck and a lot of stubbornness managed to do so. Fantastic band still making music. I see that you have received several suggestions for further reactions, and support them. I would also suggest Manhattan Skyline and Sycamore leaves.
It's one of the greatest videos of the '80s. A similarly good and creative music video from the same era is "Don't Answer Me," by the Alan Parsons Project.
This video is the most expensive video ever and was a gamble for Warner. Sowing the seeds of love ( tears for fears ) rivalled in expense. The architecture is rotoscoping. 2 guys in 1 room put this masterpiece together. Walt disney invented rotoscope with tom and gerry circa 1930.
This music video is like a mini movie in itself. A lot of a-ha videos are really creative. More please. Oh and that Keyboard riff ? That was written by the keyboard player (Mags) when he was 14 years old.... amazing.
The 80’s was a decade in which technology was pushed to the limit. A decade of awesomeness that will never be repeated. It will stand the test of time. From a gen Xer…..😢
Thank you !! Welcome to a-ha' s music world ! They are a great band and Take on me was only the beginning , it is famous for the video , the Music and the Voice of Morten Harket 💎🎶 There is also a version unplugged for Mtv (Summer solstice-2017): sweet version 💚🤍❤️ P.s.: "Nothing to it" is the song that inspired the name of their band, simple ,universal and unique 😊
The 70's till 90's had some of the best music of all time. So many great bands/singers during those years. Sadly the quality of music these days is a joke compared to then. How many songs from past 2015 are in the top 1000 of all time. (very few because they are not good enough for that list)
I didn't see anyone comment on this; but this video's ending was based on a movie called Altered States, which starred William Hurt. It was about a man who used a sensory deprivation tanks with powerful hallucinogenic to reach another states of consciousness. But the experience would alter his body as well; so in the end scene, he was changing forms, and started slamming himself against the walls in the hall to transform back. The band members liked this film, and uses that scene for their music video.
This blew everyone away in the 80's. There was nothing like this video, a few years prior Michael Jackson came out with his Thriller video which was top of the line in prosthetics but this video with the comic, totally 1 of a kind. A lot of reactors dont get that when the waitress crumples the comic book it lets the bad guys out that he beats in a race in the beginning of the video.
November 2005 i was in Athens with my mates and watched them live.('Analogue" tour)When they played this one('Hunting high and Low")We couldn't help it.We all got wet eyed.As long as Morten was singing this everybody in the stadium were dead silent. His delivery was so breathtaking. So sensitive it was piercing right through the heart. All got stuned.!When the interlude of the song followed somewhere in the middle,we all exploded in cheering, screaming, applauding.
Hi I'm a new subscriber and just found your reaction to "Take on Me". This is one of my favorite songs from the 80's. The song came out in 1984, but the music video is from 1985. The guy in the video is a-ha's lead singer Morten Harket and the girl is actress Bunty Bailey. The music video won six awards at the 1986 MTV Video Music Awards, Best New Artist in a Video, Best Concept Video, Most Experimental Video, Best Direction in a Video, Best Special Effects in a Video, and Viewer's Choice. It's definitely one of the best music videos of the 80's. You should also check out "The Sun Always Shines on Tv" . The music video for this song takes up where the music video for "Take on Me" left off.
10 year old me loved this song when it first came out in 1985 the video was ahead of it's time and 38 years later 48 year old me still loves this song and video.
A lower quality rendition of the song was recorded & was originally released in 1982-83 along with an even lower quality video & the song failed to gain traction until the song was reworked until they got it to its present form. They went back to the drawing board on the video. As you can imagine, the tech did not exist to make a video like this at that time. Nothing like this had ever been done before . The animated scenes alone took 16 weeks to complete as they were first filmed then subsequently copied frame by frame... by hand!!! It was all worth it as this video took the world by storm. I can attest to it as I was 18 when the song and video was re-released in 1985. We were all blown away because we'd never seen anything like this before & I honestly don't think we have since. A-ha had 5 hits during their run with only 2 charting in the US. They continue to tour & this song has been featured in everything from Grey's Anatomy to Deadpool. You might also want to check out The Sun Always Shines on TV and Robert Palmer's Addicted to Love. Keep up the good work!!❤
This was a groundbreaking video style in the 80s. The music is catchy, but you really need to go back several decades to hear true modern rock. So many bands that paved the way for us. Progressive rock bands, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes, Jethro Tull, Alan Parsons Project etc. That's where your head would be happiest!!!
a - ha is a very good band. They have iconic songs o 80's, 90's and 2000. If you want to watch a good looking video: VELVET (and it's a little funny in a dark way). THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, it's very good, too.
One of the most popular songs of the 80s. By the way, the singing is completely raw. The video is on *every* top 5 music video list that exists. You should compare the MTV Unplugged version from 2017. Same tune, lyrics, singer. Completely different feel. Maybe the best reinterpretation of an upbeat original ever done.
If you explore the eighties you will find some of the best music and videos ever made. Successful singers and groups had massive budgets for videos to be made for their single releases as these would help to promote and sell their singles. If you'd like to review another iconic 80's band and video check out Rio by Duran Duran. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Keep up the great work.
Rotoscoping was in the 20s fella. Back in the day it was all hand drawn. Every split second of movement to create a cartoon. Computers do it now. And much faster.
You need to do the sun always shines on TV next it's kind of a sequel. The lead singer Morton harkett was gorgeous.still is.he did the masked singer in the UK.
I was 18 when this got big and risked getting into SERIOUS trouble with my parents ignoring my chores to wait for this to come on TV. Going into college that year we could all agree on this album (no iPods then, it was cassettes and vinyl and you mostly had to share what you were listening to).
I was 18 too when this came out and I had my yellow sports walkman and still have it today! I miss the 80's and the irony of using the internet to go back to better times before there was any internet.
A-HA has made a ton of bangers over the years. Check out :The Sun always Shines on TV, Summer Moved On, Crying in the Rain, Stay on These Roads. So many to mention here:)
I love your reaction, so genuine... In 80ies and 90ies it was the time of the music videos in my opinion, I think Michael Jackson started it, but I am not sure.
Hi Chase! The year was 1982 but it apparently took a few goes to become a hit in 85. I believe it turned into a One Hit Wonder, maybe one of the best of that category. And yes you pronounced the name correctly Ah Hah. I’m glad you enjoyed it, it’s a masterpiece on multiple levels. There was a BLOCKED message on the video portion was that there or done to you by the software? Sigh.
