I'm really happy to see Paul Phoenix after what, 20 years of playing him. He was my dad's favorite character and he taught it to me during Tekken 2, and now he's my main character too. My dad would love this 100% if saw this right now.
He’s been my main character as well. Since my olders brothers stole all the good players that I wanted. But Paul as my main has served me well best decision ever
Paul has one of the most unique styles in fighting games: a bizarre mix of brawling, Judo-style grappling, and a few Bajiquan strikes thrown in for good measure. A truly mixed martial artist before MMA became mainstream.
Paul, Nina, jack and yoshimitsu share that title of being in every tekken game. For those who are confused Gun jack is also known as Jack 3. So as follows Jack, Jack 2 (p Jack or prototype Jack was a secret character), Gun Jack (aka Jack 3), Jack 4, Jack 5, Jack 6....u see where this is going. If Jack 8 isn't in tekken 8 then it breaks the line of Jack's haha.
@@jinzo637 Jack 4 wasnt in tekken 4 tho he does technically show up in tekken 5 intro and tekken 7 story but yeah weve already had a game with Jack not present.
I don't know what's more impressive, his ability to punch through brick walls so consistently or the fact that they keep appearing every time he's getting ready to fight.
There’s a 78% chance that Paul will fight kazuya in Tekken 8’s Story mode but kazuya will just Laser Paul into the air, but it will be a iconic fight.🎉 I doubt Paul will win against Kazuya, unless he does his death fist, to human kazuya, like he did to ogre’s 1st form.
I was thinking that as well. Been with tekken from the start and I've never really been a fan of Paul... but looking at him in this game compaired to how he is in the others..... He does seem to be in a state of happiness unlike ever before

Authough Paul is labeled as a comic character, he is in pair with the Mishimas in power level. Haven't seen any other character who was able to get a tie with one of the Mishimas (he got a tie with Kazuya) and defeated the Aztec God of Fight after. Paul is really powerful plotwise and i never see anyone commenting about his dids.
I still say they did Marshall even more dirty than Paul. Say what you want about how goofy Paul is, they didn't make him goofy AND a sociopath! Dudes one of the most formidable fighters in the world and he doesn't stop poisoning and ruining his best friends lives just because hes bad at managing money.
I'm so glad they took what made Paul fantastic, focused on that, and just made it even better, because each one of Paul's hits feel so much more impactful than they did in T7
I wonder if it wouldn't be like S Broly from FighterZ where you get a percentage dmg steroid bonus once you Ultimate/RA. Or it could be purely cosmetic lol
This is the first time I’ve ever seen Paul ever look this happy….and it’s kinda making me like him more as a character 😂 Idk why but it’s just refreshing seeing a person really enjoying a fight like he’s doing.
Tekken 8 Paul is really growing on me. His enthusiasm is downright infectious and he hasn't lost a step or even an ounce of power, especially impressive considering that he's likely in his 50s by now.
Yeah ! He's 52 in Tekken 7 ! XD That's crazy when you think of it, he's definitely in top condition for fighting even at 52. He's so dedicated to his Judo that he's only living because of it, for it ! XD
The way the announcer said "Phoenix", I have never seen such gusto... And so much emotional expressiveness to Paul's facial animations, he really seems like a real person now
I don't like his new hair and silly rope, but I love how impactful his hits are. Everything sounds powerful as hell. And the jacket tear was epic! This is also the most expressive Paul has ever been and I love that. I hope they continue to make character's personality shine through in not just intros/outros but gameplay as well.
1:03 - 1:15 I find myself coming back and watching this video just to watch these sequences and moves. The sound design, the visuals and Paul’s screams are just so awesome.
It's nice to see people just being happy about Paul making it, but like no one is talking about the fact that they slaughtered his hair like what is that!!!
Love that they added the sleeve rip when he charges up his punch and how it stays. If you look at T8 footage from a couple months ago the sleeve rip animation was not there before
While Paul seems to be doing the least "new" stuff so far, there's definitely a weight to his attacks this time around. Everything feels like it HURTS.
Paul Phoenix is like the most powerful Fighter if we remove the Devil Genes. It's so amazing that despite him getting older now, he's still on top condition to fight in any battle. Looking forward on using an iconic fighter soon.👍
There's also Feng who I'm pretty sure destroyed an entire mountain with a punch. And I'm also remembering Marshall and Paul both needing to team up just to take him down in Tekken 7 character episode. Sooo.....

that phoenix punch still hounts me till this day (note: as you see my past self was so traumatized by paul's hair that i misspelled a simple grammar..)

first time i saw paul in t8 i thought he will be the "man got nothing to lose" guy since he got quite the serious face seeing his smile in this trailer just relieves me of that notion, he looks better with that smile especially on 0:57 , that just warms my heart seeing such a beautiful smile
I once joked that he'd be rolled out in a wheelchair for Tekken 7, and now that's come and gone, here he is for the game after that, hitting hard as ever.
This is also the Paul that beat both Jin and *Ogre.* Then walked away disappointed. It's nice seeing Paul back in top form again. Brian is not the only non Mishima powerhouse.
Goddamn I love how emotive the characters are in this game! I don't like the way his hair looks, but goddamn his smile is charismatic in this one. Really liked his move-set here as well. Looking towards to getting my hands on this game once it releases if this is the quality we can expect from the rest of the cast. This also might be the Tekken where I seriously start learning Paul for the first time, because in none of the previous games I never really liked the way he played, but here I'm getting a genuine itch to try to learn his moves.
Damn dude, Paul is like, what, damn near 60 at this point? It's a strange feeling when characters you used to know as young become older... makes me feel like I'm getting old too, haha
@ahsandhindsa4550 really? I mean, he was already in his mid 20's when tekken 1 released, which was all the way back in '94... so in 2023, he'd be in his mid to late 50's...

It’s also the rivalry and eventual friendship between Paul Phoenix and Marshall Law - which mirrors Chuck Norris and Bruce Les from “Way of the Dragon”. Paul definitely is an amalgam of several martial artists and inspirations plus his own character, but the beard and way he is embraced as a tough man - part of that is very Chuck Norris 👊🏻
Yeah i kinda like his rage art now it is a good call on the development teams part to add battle damage now it is a little better than then the one that was shown before
Paul is so iconic to me because of his sound ' hoaa' . That move hoaa is so good that he is my fav character. I started playing tekken from tekken 3 . He looked so serious in that but not in 8 . And also missing his iconic sound ' hoaa'
Not a fan of the redesign at all... to be fair, that is a thing only for the hairdo, the rest looks ok. But the hair looks so dumb (even for anime standards), it kinda tarnishes everything else

I was cool with both the high flat top or when he just let the hair down as an alternate. seeing mid-life paul with an over the top anime haircut actually kind of hurts me.
Yup reminds me of Final Frontier and Space Colony stage in T5. Yet this is a bit boring. Would rather have a remake of that stage with balcony break or glass shattering ground break tbh.
People will say it doesn't look good just because it's not insanely flashy or some exotic locale. Technically speaking it looks great though. Not every stage should be Times Square.
