Amazing how fast the desert starts reclaiming itself after the watter goes down. Great video and description. We always camped at the waters edge back in the 60's and launched our boat on a gravel ramp. They started filling the lake in 1935 and it took 6 years to fill to capacity.

So I know they've already found one dead body in a barrel but I wonder how MANY have sunk under the silt of the bottom of the lake over time. That silt is now the desert floor, no longer the lake floor. I wonder if that's one of the reason why they say you cannot metal detect. They should allow metal detecting like for ONE month. I wonder how much "stuff" would be uncovered. I'd LOVE to be out there with my detector and shovel!!!

There is a safety concern too, which I don't normally bring up on things.... If it's dry then I don't disagree, but some of these fresh spots you break through the crust and find yourself stuck fast. When they built the hoover dam the certainly would never have believed they would purposely stop the in supply and carry letting water out!

Just wanted to say that I have been watching your videos and love them. I was able to travel to Las Vegas for the first time and took a bus tour to the west end of the Grand Canyon. I was fascinated with the scenery of the dessert and mountains and just the area. Your videos show where we went on the bus tour and it just reminds me of my trip. So, thank you for posting these videos. Brings back great memories.

I was visiting the dam in April of 1983 and there was so much excess water, it was going over the spillway on the east side at an alarming rate. Thousands of gallons per minute down the tunnel and out the other side in a raging torrent. Now look at this incredible reversal. Too bad they could not or did not save that water then.

I was born in April of 1993. I spent most of my life in Arizona, but the first time I went to Hoover Dam was 2003. It was quite full even then. It's shocking to see how quickly it is changing. I always wished I could see the water flowing over like you're describing.

DID you ever stop to think that maybe they were COMMITTED to the release of water to conform with EPA regulations?? maybe they were being responsible for the well-being of the riverbed downstream as law requires. you people never look at the big picture before commenting.. when you were there the dam had EXCEEDED full pool- where the hell would they have put the water?? once a dam reaches full pool- it ceases to be available for flood control- we were lucky there were no floods in '83...

Next time try to stand in the same position to see the peaks and valleys so we can reference the level of the water. There are landmarks that don’t change.
