People give me grief over my safety gear, I bought a "dirt" bike but wear street gear. I bought the bike because I like the look and feel of it and the way it corners without having to lean it very much, I wear the street gear because I ride on the street. My safety my choices.

Lol those are also the same people that if you were to crash and weren't wearing that gear and just a tshirt and shorts, "why weren't you wearing any street gear.!?!?!" 😂 i have friends that ride in full race leathers, gauntlet style gloves and track boots and on a dirt bike and i have mad respect for them. Someone that actually has a brain and appreciates their life more than what people think of how they look is what matters. As long as YOU feel safe when riding, doesn't matter what kind of bike. Even a little honda grom lol

I can relate. I even brought my street gear to an enduro class since I didn't have anything else at the time. I must've had MX-boots, can't remember, but I had the rest for street use. No one said anything, but I'm sure they wondered a bit. Everybody hade matching bikes and clothes and no bike older than 2years. My bike was 25years old at the time. Must admit I enjoy "kind of" looking the part on my KLX650R but not infringing on safety. Short spurts at low speed in the city I take my MX-helmet simply for the looks. Longer travels or below zero, I use a full street helmet and full leathers. MX boots I'm sure are better than street boots for safety, but I cant use them on my other bike GSF1200. I do have some pretty expensive Sidi boots for that though. Kicking my klx is better with mx boots. Destroyed a par of street boots kicking my 610TE one winter (slipping off the kick several times that winter).

I’m just starting to ride and this was a very helpful video. I’ve heard a few experienced riders state that they rev their engines at stops to make the person coming up behind them aware that there’s a bike in front of them.

Flashing your brake light is a far more effective way of alerting a driver approaching behind you, and it doesn’t annoy others around you. I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!

I've been riding for several years and I still like to watch stuff like this. Especially before spring starts and I haven't rode all winter. All it takes is 1 mistake to get hurt or killed. Always use your head and stay sharp and you should be fine. Most important piece of advice I would give someone just starting is to always expect there to be something dangerous ahead. All it takes is a few gravel or a pothole around a curve and you could wipe out. I always take it easy and watch out. And if you can't see good, don't ride. Just don't do it. You will eventually wreck because you don't see something in the road. Im always dodging gravel and grass and stuff every time I ride. My dad wrecked his scooter a few weeks ago because he couldn't see a gravel in the road and he skinned his foot and leg up really bad. All because he's too stubborn to admit he can't see good enough to ride anything with 2 wheels anymore.

Good tips again Sir, thank you :) Definitely with you there on gear and foot position, I ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs until I need to use the controls and then they're back again when the job is done, I also like how it makes me feel more connected and at one with the bike. I've been down twice, both times my own fault snatching the front brake in an emergency, since then I've been a lot more cautious and conscious of loading the suspension progressively, even though the bike has ABS, it's good riding practice. I'll give your braking tip a go though next time out and see how it feels :)

I am great fan of "per the manual". So true the designer is the best person to give advice on how to maintain. However, for older bikes you may have to adapt your maintenance to the new product and modifications you made or even to the aging of the bike. By the way: happy to see you back !

@mojaverailfabricationltd4435

I really appreciate a good owner's manual. I just bought a new Kawasaki KX85 motox bike from my boys and the owner's manual as incredible. It tells you how to tear the engine down and do all sorts of a very very advanced job tasks. As well as telling you all the specs beyond anything you would expect to see and a manual. It's really incredible and a really appreciate the time that kawasaki put into this manual. However I suspect the reason is because the manual was probably initially prepared sometime in the eighties when this line of bikes 1st came out and people actually did this type of maintenance on their motorcycles. And they probly never changed it since then. I think if they made the manual from scratch today they wouldn't invest that type of energy. But the manuals incredible in terms of the amount of information that's in there

Once again great advice . One thing about tire pressure . Guys with duel sports change their tire pressure according to the terrain they will be riding on . I have a Dual Sport but this hasn't come up for me as I just have 300 miles of practice time on it . For my safety I ride with my pod lights on all the time . Don't care if it's not legal at night . The headlight that comes with the DR650 is laughable . I do tilt the 1500 lumen pods down a bit so the main area illuminated is about 20 feet to 60 feet or so in front of me . Those lights compliment the weak headlight very well . I did buy a DOT LED replacement headlight but that little job will be a bit more technical than the other improvements I have made , mainly because they say you probably have to cut away some plastic to get it right . Don't want to botch that . Every ride has so far confronted me with some sort of challenge be it large or small . Usually deer are involved , I go pretty slow on this windy one plus laner that goes through the coastal hills . Absolutely beautiful country . Always see deer and the closer to dusk the more I see in and around the road . Not to mention quale rabbits and hawks . Had an Owl fly over my path 2 evenings ago , totally awesome . Had a deer cross the highway in front of me the same evening , not awesome . I was doing 10 mph less than the speed limit and thankfully it ran across out of danger . One thing I do when I ride in deer areas is slow down and give a few beeps of my horn . If it's starting to get a little dark I will flash the high beams also , anything to give the animal pause to think before acting or to scare it the other way . It works pretty well so far .
