Tenere 700 - Acerbis Fuel Tank Review 

The Acerbis tank is a step in the right direction to reduce the top heavy feeling of the T7. It holds more fuel in the lower half of the tank than the original, and is 1.5kgs lighter. So with 16 litres of fuel, it feels lighter and less top heavy than the original tank. Even filled up it feels heavier, but not really top heavier, if you know what I mean. It is worth noting that the T7's top heavy feeling is due to a number of factors, not just the high tank. The engine is mounted higher than normal (its a solid lump at 53 kgs), and the headlight and rally tower assembly is ridiculously heavy. The headlight alone is over 3 kgs. Someone should develop a lightweight "non-rally" tower for general use, which will make a huge difference. I know this because I have tested my bike with a simple headlight and shroud and it transforms the bike.

Got mine installed yesterday. Love it. I don't feel the weight shift anymore. Already used to it.

Bugger tank and more range is a no brainer (especially in Australia.) you’re not always going to have it brimming full, so the extra weight is only a concern some of the time…and I suspect for many, often this will be as you head down sealed roads towards where the real riding will begin. More fuel is just another facet of ‘be prepared’. Unless the tank is shaped like a giant square box with spikes on it, I’ll take a bigger one every time!

Hey, thanx for the video...question please...I have a friend who is about your size etc...he finds his T7 is too sluggish on the road when he is hwy speeds...loaded with luggage, plus his body weight etc....question is how do you find it on the hwy speeds etc loaded down with the extra large fuel tank? thanx!

Thanks for being the one big rider to do reviews. Similar size looking for an ADV, more on-road than off (off would mostly be gravel, no single track). T7 are nowhere to be found in the US, so thinking KTM 890, KTM 690 or Aprilia 660. Any thoughts on these from a big guys perspective? Would love to keep lightweight but I know that would be miserable on the highway, but don't plan on much of that either, mostly backroads to enjoy the views and less idiots, I mean traffic.

I have one as well. Some places I go require more fuel and not a 4 liter gallon jug tied on back Take the bad with the good.

Now I have to go back and watch your T7 videos again, with different eyes. Mine did come with that tank, but there are other thing I will have to fix on it.

Yeah. It makes it more top heavy if filled to the rim. For normal riding i would never fill more than the normal tank in it. And then it is less top heavy.

Would the fuel gauge still working?

the IMS long range fuel tank for a KLR 650 is 37.5lt where as a safari tank is 32lt

Expected... i understand the fuel anxiety, been there 4 weeks ago, but imo i will only put a tank like that if i was going to the desert.

You should buy and install a camel tank. Mounted on the rear, 5l, vacuum system so every thing go's automatically

What about the fuel gauge? Any change in the indication of the fuel level? Is half a tank still half a tank? I guess everything else needs to go out of the stock tank too like fuel pump? How long did it take you for the installation?

Strange, I have lived in Baja for 7+ years.. and fuel capacity is a thing for many reasons, infrequent gas stations and when you get there 87 is usually available and rarely 91 octane or better. Adventure/dual sport is all one thing and road manners are the rule and bikes that can be ridden off road is the exception.. so with technology like Google and others.. you know where you are going often and if gas is available, the tank is just a permanent and more convenient option than Jerry-cans..in the segment lots of silly straw man arguing about weight, in US rider is normally 190-220 lbs and w small amount of gear and,500lbs motorcycle why all the pretend about being nibble and light feeling large part of audience has massive aluminum top and side cases or stuffed soft luggage and a gallon extra is a significant issue? Come on.. honesty about adventure is critical.. manufacturers telling old middle age men that they will be banging through single track and doing 5ft high whooops at 50+mph while smiling and looking young and cool. 700+ pounds of any motorcycle is not agile and a gallon of gas doesn't make a difference to mass majority of the riders.. Next will be a bunch of chubby men discussing the edges of downhill snow skiing and does it help performance at 80mph in icy condition?or which surf board is best when trying to rip on 50ft waves

The Camel ADV tank is a better option. Lower on the bike so no extra top heaviness. 6.5lt of extra fuel.

i'm sticking with my normal one for now... Did you get a new bashplate?

idk if I wanna add more top heavy weight, change the tank etc... thinking about just getting a fuel bag/bottles to carry extra Edit: didn't realize it reduced weight/top heaviness lol

I'm a bit confused 1. You said it's 1.5kg lighter even with the full tank 2. You said the bike is more top heavy than stock.. How if it's lighter? 3. You recommended spring upgrades in the front if installing this tank. Why if its lighter? And if it is heavier momentarily after refueling it will be lighter than stock most of the time going to empty tank? I'm most interested in how much lighter the hardware is compared to the stock hardware. So without any fuel 🙂 I Appreciate the answers if you can give some.

So, with all the modifications you have made to your Tenere, would you still choose it over the Tuareg? Or is the Tenere now the superior motorcycle?

I have the same tank for the same reason - much better range. Is it wider though? I know it is slightly taller, but as it uses the stock side panels and mounts, doesn’t that mean the width is the same as the stock tank? Oh and I switched back from a locking fuel cap on the Acerbis to the vented cap as the vented cap leaks too much fuel when you drop the bike.

Is the acerbis tank lighter than the OEM tank?

If you don’t love a particular motorcycle then don’t go for that. No motorcycle is 100% perfect. The best motorcycle is the one you’re riding.

that tank bag looks ridiculous on the bike now , suggest you lose it.
