Every time I see this scene, I'm reminded that this is such a superbly shot and edited film, particularly for a B-movie which was never expected to find major success. Adam Greenberg's cinematography is so good, James Cameron brought him back for Terminator 2 and he was nominated for a Best Cinematography Oscar. He should have won it too

not many people appreciate the editing and screenplay of this film. Its definitely up there with the best aci-fi films of all time- especially the photo of Kyle Reece looking at the photo of Sarah and wondering what she was thinking when the pic was taken - gets me every time I watch those scenes
@UnYin99

i dont have any education in film production but what i noticed/like about this scene is the way Kyle's shotgun firing is edited. We see Kyle and then a bright flash from the end of the gun. The sound is heard, then the camera cuts to the terminator and we see the impact of the round as the sound continues and ends. Then quick back and forth between kyle firing and the terminator absorbing the hit a split second later, with the audio connecting the two images. i feel it really transmits the speed, intensity and the raw violence of firing a shotgun at a "person". Add to that Kyle frantically pushing bystanders out of the way, club patrons running, falling, and getting shot despite Reese's efforts. some great choices that deliver a strong sense of energy, impact and the overall chaos of the interaction in a close and crowded environment. Imo those decisions are an example of what allowed the filmmakers to create a taut action film with a limited budget.

Perhaps the greatest predator vs prey scene ever, Arnies greatest and most iconic role. Cameron’s masterly direction with that slo-mo of the T1 miscue in the nightclub when Sarah bends down to pick something up is a work of art. Then the T1 returns set to take a clear laser guided head shot is a magnificent peak of the hunt scene just as the laser hits the viewers eyes. The tension just ramps up to fever pitch just as you realise how cunning, relentless and invincible this thing is after being shot umpteen times. Pure magic never gets old, pure magic.

There are 3 action movies that I refuse to pick the best one out of. Two have Arny in them and two have Michael Biehn in them. Terminator, Predator , and Aliens - all had me on the edge of my seat in the movie theatre wondering when the action might slow down so that I can catch a breath.

"Come with me if you want to live" - This is such a classic scene and they paid homage to it so much in T2. That line, Arnie being thrown out the window, the terminator chasing a car and jumping and holding on, the crash and Terminator rolling off. It's almost shot for shot a repeat in those sections. Which is actually awesome.

The time travel stuff is confusing to me, but I've wondered if Reese wasn't originally John Connor's father, but when he was sent back it created a new John Connor that has better DNA and training. Like the first Connor barely scraped by, but Kyle's John Connor is physically optimized for destroying Terminators and better trained as a result of Sarah meeting him.

I'd like to take this opportunity to mention that while this movie was absolutely epic, for some reason (obvious), they totally ruined the tension that this movie had in the sequel with the massive spoiler that the T100 was the good guy. They could have still pumped the film and got people interested without completely blowing the flower box scene and the echo of "come with me if you want to live." I was so disappointed as I watched the movie knowing they blew it. Since then, I'll watch the first few seconds of a trailer and if it looks like something I'd like to see I'll close my eyes and plug my ears. It would be an interesting film school challenge to develop a trailer for T2 without spoilers. Probably would draw out some really creative solutions.

Like most of the songs on the soundtrack, the song playing here ("Burnin' In The Third Degree") is performed by "Tryanglz", with Tahnee Cain on lead vocals. As a small trivia fact, Cain is the daughter of Doug McClure, who used to be in loads of mid-budget adventure movies in the 60s and 70s, such as "Warlords of Atlantis" and "The Land That Time Forgot". McClure also starred in "Humanoids From The Deep" (1980), a movie made by Roger Corman's New World Pictures and ghost-directed by Jimmy Murakami and scored by James Horner. As that team had also worked on "Battle Beyond The Stars" (1981), the movie where James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd had both got their big breaks in movie-making, it makes me wonder if that connection is how McClure's daughter's band ended up providing the songs for The Terminator.

It is interesting how many things is so wrong in this scene as example, for the era and movie effects. Example, shooting someone with a shotgun wouldn't make them to fly off their feets, neverless 180 kg terminator. Has that changed much modern movies? Yeah, littlebit. But at those times it was still so modern to have people flying when being shot, because audience didn't know any better (not that they would so much these days). But then there are some major great small details, like when Terminator hijack the police car and reverse to start the chase, it doesn't even look back where it is driving, because it knows the environment and how much space and all does it have to turn the car around. It is as well noticeable how original T-800 did spray and pray with the UZI, where today in modern ones Terminators will shoot the target expected position etc. It is little difficult to say which one really is nicer, that a robot with excellent strength should have a perfectly stabilized firing, and perfect aiming on anything moving even, or that there is the human factor to generate as much chaos and obstacles to suppress the human threat as secondary objective while waiting to get a opportunity to continue to primary objective. The problem in all action movies with guns is that no one really want to make guns realistic, unless it fit to that plot hole. So no penetrating bullets through whole common american houses (2-3 houses really with assault rifles), neverless the whole car and everything except the engine block. And experienced people would be smart enough not to take cover behind car door (just one thin sheet of metal, and some plastic) or wooden table or something that definitely wouldn't be stopping any handgun calibers. Many movies would be totally different if guns would be presented realistically and serious threat to surroundings. As well the accuracy people should have, as missing as much at under 20 meters wouldn't be a thing really.

The Terminator was hands down the best of them all, it was a sci-fi, horror film, the others were more like action movies. Michael Biehn was superb in The Terminator. I would have liked to have seen a t.v. series called "The Reese files" and its about him growing up in the future, how they survived, built weapons, infiltrated robot building facility's, wars against the terminators...etc. Terminator Salvation was o.k., it could have been done better. It didn't have that sci-fi horror like The Terminator (1984) had, the T-800 almost seemed invincible.

Travels back in time to single-handedly take on a Terminator and rescue his marque, thus saving the world, after literally arriving naked and with no waepons to speak of. That's a good point, yet there's the fact that Kyle Reese grew up in a post-apocalyptic world living off of Two-Day Old Coyote and such...it'd be interesting to see how the character would look if they factored more long-term effects of malnutrition, poor hygiene, extreme stress and trauma into the physical composition. I heard J. Cameron had that on his mind and M. Beihn trained to get that kind of a look for his portrayal of a resistance soldier...
