Killer cyborgs, A-list megastars, groundbreaking visual effects AND a kick-ass soundtrack! It can mean only one thing. Yes, that’s right good friends of JoBlo, uber director James Cameron is back to show us exactly how to follow up one of the biggest smash hits of your career, with a sequel that had to surpass the expectations of even the most hardcore fan of original movie, and also show the world how to revolutionise modern VFX…Again. Cameron had already wowed audiences with The Terminator back in 1984 and had proven that he could create impressive sequels to existing sci-fi franchises, with the action-heavy Aliens in 1986. He’d also made great strides with visual effects in 1989’s The Abyss so could his original vision of having a liquid terminator in the franchise really work?
That’s right, sci-fi fans, we’re giving one of the greatest sequels ever made a retrospective dissection, to see whether it still gets a slowly melting thumbs-up, or if it should be pulverised into the past like a T-800 endoskeleton. So, stop crushing those pull-ups and turn your copy of You Could Be Mine up to eleven, as we re-appraise Cameron’s 1991 epic, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, here on REVISITED!

One of the coolest things about this movie is that it wasn't spoiled by trailers that showed too much. Smaller world back then, I guess, but not knowing every twist certainly helped elevate this film to masterpiece status. Having the original to stand on, an amazing script and characters, and STILL groundbreaking vfx definitely helps as well. Total classic!

The early trailers didn't spoil the big twists, but... Unfortunately, the later trailers closer to release gave almost everything away. Except in Japan! In Japan, they mandated that Arnold's "hero twist" be maintained a surprise. If you wanna know more, I did an episode about it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C-91-Ou9Mss.html

Arnold was initially cast as Kyle, but after talking with Cameron and Arnold expressing his thoughts about how the Terminator should be portrayed, Cameron then wanted Arnold to play the Terminator. Arnold didn’t like the idea of playing a bad guy at first but came around to it. I was reading one of Arnold’s books last night and came across this little tidbit.

Start to finish the movie keeps you engaged, the set pieces still hold up, the cinematography, the music, writing and every character on screen is on point, even minor characters. It doesn’t feel dated, rather now a ‘period’ piece set in the 90s and also about the future.

T2 stands as one of those Sequels, that still stands the test of time. Which is one of its defining features even now some 33 years after release. It is also still a career defining role for Robert Patrick as the liquid metal T1000 (only his 2nd role on-screen following a bit part in the previous year Die Hard 2).

I didn't get to see T2 in theatres as a kid, but as soon as it came out on VHS, I asked my mom to rent it for me. INSTANTLY loved it. It'd be a few years before I saw the first one. Fast Forward to about 5 or 7 years ago, I forget, but they re-released T2 in theatres in 3D and my wife and I went to see it. The conversion was excellent and just seeing it on the big screen was amazing. To this day, still one of my top 5 movies of all time.

God, Autumn 1991 was amazing. Terminator 2 and Nirvana's "Nevermind" blowing up and changing my life within hours of them setting into my sights and sounds. T1 is my all time favourite film, but in terms of sequels, T2 is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be. Perpetually woven into the tapestry of my life. I want to mention Lethal Weapon 2 here,- I personally always felt that was right up there with the original, maybe even surpassing it. Its such fun , but when Riggs "goes dark" in the last act, it gets down to absolute bad ass business.

It's one of the best movies ever. The T1000 is one of the best villains of all time. So many good ideas went into that character. The fact that Robert Patrick only uses his eyes when he's interacting with humans. Because the T1000 doesn't have eyes. There are eyes on his face to blend in with humans but his entire body is basically an eye. So when he's talking to you he looks at you. But when humans aren't focusing on him he said he tries to act like his eyes were in his ears like a praying mantis so he turns his head to make his ears point at things without using his eyes because humans aren't really looing at him so he's not focusing on it too much. Also both Terminators never say a word to each other. Because again, speech is just their way to blend in so when they're fighting that part of their programming doesn't kick in. There are so many cool things like that in the movie. Also as they mentioned only 5 minutes of CGI in a movie with that much action. They did so many amazing practical stuff and for that reason it still looks better than 99% of all movies to this day.

Now, his other movies might not place in the absolute top 10 for me, but theyre still damn good entertaining movies. Good examples are being The Abyss, Titanic, Avatar, True Lies. I saw this in theaters at 7 years old thanks to my Dad, whom was already a huge Arnold fan and let me watch the fist Terminator (and several other Arnie classics) as a kid. To say my expectations were high is an understatement. The teaser that showed Arnold being built in Skynet's factory got many rewatches from me leading up to the film's release, as it was on our VHS copy of "total Recall" (my 2nd favorite Arnie flick after The Terminator). When it was over, I remember having these weird feeling of something was missing, and thus I didn't like T2 as much as the first. I guess even back then I just preferred the darker, horror movie style of the first film (and especially the score). Even today, as much as I can't fault T2's success for taking the franchise and subverting expectations by making it more of a family friendly blockbuster (while still maintaining an R-rating), I still can't help but wonder what a more streamlined T2 with a tone closer to the first film would look and sound like. Then again, fans like myself are still waiting for the Future War film for going on 40 years now, lol.

It’s amazing they managed to resist the money grab urge and never put out anymore Terminator movies. Just the two and they were done.

Y'know what's cool about t2? if you've only watched t1 and missed the trailers or somehow didn't get spoiled then they would go in believing the t-800 is again going after the heroes and that the t-1000 would be the good guy since at this point he looks decent, acts like a human and isn't arnold schwartzeneger. That's what makes the "get down!" line work so well in that instance because it becomes a massive, early plot twist

Watched the first three again recently (the only ones that matter in the franchise anyway); the first one is great of course, the second one not as great as I remembered it and the third is okay for what it is. It's like Star Wars; only accept the original three.
