What I like most most about this scene is that the T800 and T1000 don't talk to each other. No smack talk about the T800 being obsolete or malfunctioning, they barely even stare each other down - just get straight into the rock-sockem-robots.
They really don't make movies like this anymore. The cinematography, music, and mood just had you on the edge of your seat, you can really feel the tension and horror here.
I turned 18 soon after this film came out. This scene directly led me to do 3 things: 1. Get a gun licence. 2. Buy a Beretta 92F 3. Train endlessly with replacing mags as slick as possible. I no longer carry a Beretta... but while my shooting performance is at best "fine" I can still do a phenomenal mag change gig without loosing eye contact with the target even for one second.
@@terryprice1691 Only cause of the living skin, which the T-1000 doesn't have, though it's more like a metal elemental than a machine, just one made by science than magic.
I LOVE the little details in this scene... like the T-1000 responding to the mannequin. It was just a facial change, but HONEST enough to convey a whole lot of character without breaking the illusion with the audience. That this unstoppable killing machine from the future is caught off guard in a brief moment of self awareness. I also noticed that (for the most part) when T-1000 shot with the hand gun, it didn't blink (except for the first shot fired). Cameron/Patrick with their details. Amazing.
T1000s were so advanced with their decision making that they could break off from the Skynet network and go rogue. And literally follow their "own" path. This is why they were produced in short numbers and why the Skynet developed the T-X instead. Then later on the T-3000
Probably because of the obvious plot, the main characters doing too much cat-n-mouse with an shapeshifting, duplicating, army killing machine that can tear you to bits in an instant and give even the T-1000 and T-X a run of their money. And etc.... Honesty. I think Dark Fate is better than Genisys. But Terminator 1 & 2 will always be the best. Thats just how it is.
The early 90's were the golden age of Hollywood movies. That era produced so many timeless classics, because the story telling was perfectly balanced between story, effects and cinematography.
Yes, but I would have to include the whole of the 90's. T2, Magnolia, American Beauty, Varsity Blues and American Pie (two of the best high school movies ever), Saving Private Ryan, Fight Club, Jurassic Park, Matrix, Shawshank Redemption, Schindler's List...shit, I could go on and on and on. There were so many good movies compared to the last two decades, and the 90's was probably the best decade for movies and music (1999 for music specifically).
Agreed, I've often thought the same with even the 70's and 80's as well - when CGI was good enough to look real, but not so commonplace it took over from any substance of story
The 90s had ground breaking effects, but they still had flaws, the story had to carry the audience. Now directors throw special effects around for everything and the story is barely noticeable.
What kinda effing story you guys really want? All Terminator Movies from 1 to present have basically the same story, only difference is SFX nowadays are million times better... Stop being "back in my day"... you guys are so cheesy and old. Can't relate 😂😏
I love how the T-800 entered the room, and the isolated music started to play, along with the fact John was actually isolated in this corridor and traped with two killer robots from the future. This scene is pure cinematic Gold!
Lol the guy with the camera is the cop that got his head bashed on the cop car in terminator 1. No wonder he is in shock seeing the same guy 10 years later
I really like how the t-800 shows astonishment when he can't get his gun out of the T-1000. Even with dark glasses it's possible see in his eyes, like the machine was confused, that wasn't in the plans, this other cyborg is stronger than me... That's when he throws the gun and starts throwing it at the wall !
What's so great is there's no crazy choreography or flashy bullshit. Just two machines trying to break each other with brute Force Best part is when the t1000 goes to take the gun from the t800 and there's that breif moment where you can tell the t800 is like ....uh oh
Its a clever scene. Cameron shows to the audience with no words that the new Terminator is the "bad guy" and also that he is not a T800 and despite his fragile aspect compared to the big T800 he is actually stronger and more skilled in hand to hand combat.
If only this wasn’t spoilt in the trailers. Can you imagine the gasps in the audience? I didn’t know Arnie was gonna be the one protecting John when I first saw this and I actually went “WHAT?”
Saaaame!! I was so pumped when I realized it!! I legit thought T1000 was the protagonist at first. Best part of the experience for me was seeing it having been spoiler free.
T800 mission parameter: Protect John Connor Grabs john to shield him from pistol fire. Primary strategy: Tactical retreat. Get john out of the city. Avoid detection by authorities. T1000 keeps shooting. T800: ...on the other hand...
Let's all take a minute to appreciate the fact that John's friend probably saved all of humanity by warning John of the T-1000 and letting him get away. If he hadn't warned him the T-1000 would have easily killed him before the T-800 even got close.
I live that bit at 1:57 when they wrestle for the shotgun. You really get the feeling that Terminator vs Terminator is (at this point) really unusual and both of them have to adapt to fighting a non-human opponent.
"2 terminators in a realistic hand to hand combat" lmao I'm literally dying. Also, the Rev 9 was already stunned on the ground, and it was more like 50 feet, not 150. Stop over exaggerating.
I first warched T2 as a kid, recognised it then as a masterpiece, and then later T1. But just imagine how it must have felt watching this scene for the first time in theater, after you saw T1, and the genuine suprise and thrill you felt, asking yourself: what the hell? Who is the terminator? Wtf is going on???
I watched T1 on VHS (I'm 43 y.o. boomer:), then T2 in theaters, unfortunately they spoiled it in the trailer and I already knew Arnold was a good guy here. For those who didn't know, that scene must have been even more awesome. T2 is a masterpiece, but for me T1 will always be superior, I loved that dark horror and hopeless tone of the movie, while T2 was more like a blockbuster.
As much as I like Arnold’s terminator, don’t get me wrong it’s iconic. So is Robert Patrick’s T-1000, I must give credit where credit is due. When I saw this for the first time many years ago, I was blown away by his acting. Also making the bad guy a seemingly likable and trustworthy Police officer was a brilliant idea! I’ll just flat out say it, I think the T-1000 is a better Terminator than Arnold’s, better acting and much more points for cool factor. Very very convincing acting and performance by the young Robert Patrick. He was only 30 years old. They usually start filming an entire year before any major action film gets put out in the theater, sometimes earlier. Great job!
1:12 i like how it starts by playing the t800's theme song when he shows up and then the t100's theme fades in to play with it as they face each other down
2:29 - the look on the Guys face, hes the Cop from T1 who went to Tech Noir to get sarah and arnold walked over and smashed his head into the roof and stole his car lol.. Followed by the Cops interviewing sarah in T2 in the ward the cop says "These were taken in a mall in Reseda" - These pics were taken by the same surprised cop. lol
Maaan I didnt know this till now! 1L19 was the cops badge number. Love when the T1 mimics his voice as well, "this is 1L19, westbound on olymipic aproaching overland"
I've seen this movie about 10000 times, but just now the last time I watched noticed how creepy and scary he looks as he comes down those stairs (2:48).
I sell this scene gives me a rage just thinking about the shit James Cameron did on Dark Fate, c'mon James why did you do that shit ?? (Who watched already knows what I'm talking about)
The way it was shot and edited made it look like he purposefully got in the crossfire so he kinda got what he deserved. He should've gotten down, like Arnie said.
Very epic scene, When I was a kid I thought the T-800 was the bad guy and got very exicited when I realized that the T-800 was the good guy. It was a boom!! And shocking moment 😄🤩 I miss these great times of my childhood❤
0:53 I love that in this single expression by John, you can tell that there's billion thoughts running through his brain. "Who is he? Got a gun. Terminator? Oh shit mom was right. I'm gonna die...." etc.
In this instance, Arnold LITERALLY felt like some kind of robot. No unnecessary movements or actions, no attempt at styling on his opponent, and no reaction to being hurt. Just basic straightforward actions to get the job done.
When the police comes to the scene, how could they explain two big gaping holes on the wall? Lest not forget that a dude was thrown through the glass panel, unscathed. Surely, the SWAT must least have some intelligence that one of the dudes could be indestructible.
This scene, the first time you see the T-Rex in Jurassic Park, the first time you see the Delorean in Back to the Future, and the first time you hear the Ghostbusters fire up their proton packs. They don't make movies like they use to.
This scene is great because you think t-100 (cop) is probably the good guy and t-800 (arnie) is the bad guy because of the last movie up until "get down"
I think it would be something we can't comprehend because he's made up of millions of nano machines. He probably has a panoramic view of everything around him.
T1000 scared the hell out of me, like Arnie in T1...THATS what the T flics after T2 are missing...HORROR...the horror element made these flics. T1 was VERY serious. T2 worked in very light humor but was still serious 90% of the time.
In this movie, the T1000 and T800 have their own individual themes. The T1000 theme sounds like a morbid lawn mower, and the T800 has a cynical metal beating. But I think it's pretty cool they mixed both themes as both Terminators face each other
The best thing about this T1000 is that you get the feeling it will kill John when it catches him, rather than give a gloating speech or throw him around a bit.
That brief moment when you saw Arnuld first arrived and you swear to God this kid was dead for sure. Then that shock and awe that he actually protects him. See back then we didn't had spoiler heavy trailers so this was an amazing surprise!
You know, honestly? The scenes don’t deserve to get age-restricted because when I saw it on Netflix, this is literally the best movie ever made and not every scenes are inappropriate. And also, the T1000 is like the Judge Doom from who framed Roger Rabbit because of the comparison.
One of the best fight scenes of all time and one of the best films of all time period! I love the build up to their first encounter, the t-1000 being nice acting like a typical cop until he finds john then he completely changes and then the chase is on !
The guy with the glasses with John in the hallway did not need to die lol he just stood there between a cop with a gun and a suspicious leather jacket biker guy with a guy I know what to do just stand there in the line of fire lol
This films is perfect in every way. I love moment when T800 tried to ripped his shotgun out of T1000 hands. Damn! I am going rewatch this film 1001 time.
The T1000 is too dangerous, it isn't the most dangerous of the Terminator Models, but it has the fewest weaknesses, most adaptable, if anything like that ever exists, I would be proud
