"Dearest Helena, by now the news of our defeat has reached the Earth. The creatures we were sent here to tame are untameable, and the colonies we were sent here to reclaim have proven to be stronger than we anticipated. Whatever you may hear about what has happened out here, know this: Alexei did not die gloriously in battle. I killed him-my pride killed him. And now my pride has consumed me as well."
“You will never see me again, Helena. Tell our children that I love them, and that their father died in defense of their future.” “Au revoir.” *Gun shot
The Terran 4 theme might have the ''Terran'' label on it. But one thing is certain. As your start the first mission in the BW Terran campaign, this music is chosen as the first to play. Implicitely, it seems to imply that Terran 4 is associated to the United Earth Directorate. You can notice the military/patriotic undertone of the whole thing. It opens up as if you were an expedition that just arrived in a foreign sector, then it picks up with trumpets and drums to symbolize the UED conquest.
Exactly what i was thinking. It has a less cowboy-ish theme, and more structured deployment feel to it. This is actually an army. "It opens up as if you were an expedition that just arrived in a foreign sector, then it picks up with trumpets and drums to symbolize the UED conquest." Couldnt have said it better myself.
Yup. This was always the UED theme for me. It spoke not of the wild, untamed, and adventurous feel of the ragtag Koprulu peasant militias, but the COMBINED MIGHT OF THE UNITED EARTH DIRECTORATE.
Lack of talent in the workforce (mostly due to horrible working conditions and substandard pay), executive decisions to satisfy moronic shareholders and unreasonable deadlines
The original Terran themes got this Wild West frontier vibe, it was about pioneer expeditions going without really much of a plan, exploring, colonizing, each group basically taking whatever they could while alternatively fighting and trading with each other, it was quite chaotic and there was this sense of freedom and adventure, Brood War's theme feel is about conquest, yes, you were still going into the unknown, but not as pioneers to seek a new life in the wilds, but as a true military expedition backed up by a mighty empire, eager for rapacious material conquests and to show its supremacy across the stars.
Compared to the ruthless Dominion or the cowardly and corrupted Confederacy? I can agree. They are still Terrans though and humans are dumb. They like to primarily waste each other even when there is this huge Zerg threat just because... power.
MENGSK: This is Emperor Mengsk of the Terran Dominion. I wish to parlay with your Executive Officer at once! DUGALLE: So, the elusive Arcturus Mengsk at last. I was hoping to speak with you before we finished our business here. I am Admiral Gerard DuGalle, and I must commend you, Sir, for holding back our advance for as long as you have. You are indeed a worthy opponent. MENGSK: My thanks to you, Sir. But you must know that your victory here means little to me. It might have taken me awhile, but I did overthrow the Confederacy. I'll overthrow your rule as well. DUGALLE: That seems unlikely, Sir, seeing as how you'll be publicly executed along with the rest of your ranking officers. MENGSK: You wouldn't dare! DUGALLE: Hah! The man who crowns himself 'Emperor' speaks to me of daring? You have far outlived your reputation, 'citizen' Mengsk. Captain, prepare to take the Emperor into custody... RAYNOR: You'll have to postpone those plans, gentlemen...
Oh yeah! Almost forgot that Raynor saved the life of the one man he hated more than anything in the universe. You know, the one that 'killed' his gf, committed genocide, and manipulated him into helping him becoming emperor.
phattUncleDave's well the zerg destroyed the UED, infested Stukov twice, sort of infested Duran, and caused Dugall to commit suicide. All that is really left of the UED is the commander you play as unless he had perished as well but I cannot recall that.
Hearing this song always reminds me of the first terran mission in Brood War and all it's subtleties : Snow everywhere, the fact that you're brown instead of red/blue, Duran -_- , the back entrance to the enemies base, tanks (Pretty much nostalgia haha).... This game made my childhood !
Originally they were supposed to have a different tech tree but the fans didn't want that so Blizzard just added a couple new units. They later explained this by saying the expeditionary force used locally available technologies because they would be easier to maintain and replace. The "uuber tachyon lazers" were left behind on Earth.
Makes sense on a few levels really, would more make sense that a separate tech tree would be a lot more trouble to implement- and the excuse holds up with the whole thing of logistics, especially with how far out the Koprulu Sector is meant to be from Earth. Especially since the Terrans are using exactly the same techbase, any special equipment the UED brings from Earth isn't going to last long in sustained warfare if they don't have the capacity to replace it.
@@KingOfElectricNinjas Also there was that mission where UED stole all of Dominion BCs and those BCs would have had tanks/goliaths/wraiths in them as we see in SC2 Terran missions
@@tichondrius4215 iirc theres a mod thats being worked on that gives the UED a different tech tree for the Campaign. I dont recall the name but it shouldnt be too hard to find
Edmund Duke: Well now, I don't know which militia you all are from, but I advise you all to back down now! I'm General Edmund Duke of the Dominion Armada. And in the name of Emperor Mengsk, I order you to surrender your forces immediately and unconditionally. Alexei Stukov : Ah, General Duke. I had expected your forces to arrive sooner. You must know that we do not represent one of your rag-tag peasant militias, but the combined might of the United Earth Directorate. Edmund Duke: Earth Directorate!? Er... You mean to tell me that you came all the way out here from Earth? Alexei Stukov : That is correct, General. We have been sent here to take control of this sector for the betterment of mankind. Edmund Duke: Over my dead body... I don't care where you're from, son, no one pushes around the Terran Dominion on my watch! All units, fire at will!
Musical Narration 0:00 - 0:35 - Awakening from cryo. 0:35 - 0:48 - Discovery of your situation and debriefing/briefing. 0:48 - 1:25 - Observing the mighty fleets. 1:25 - 1:59 - Your mission is annexation! 1:59 - 2:36 - The K-sector holds much intrigue. 2:36 - 2:58 - Their is too much red tape, despite your rank. What is the real purpose behind this mission? 2:58 - 3:30 - The mission is difficult. Off to war, anyway. 3:30 - 3:45 - A cataclysmic battle commences. 3:45 - 3:53 - ... victory?
This MUST be one of the most epic soundtracks ever created... Somehow this song always started playing when I decided to move my troops to my enemy's base! I hear it and immediately picture my tanks and goliaths marching on some space platform map =D
@@DoomStarRequiem By the way the UED, are actual nazis, they banned religion and people with cybernetic enhancements, their philosophy is the "divinity of man" and have state atheism, they also are a Socialist Fascist state. They rose from the "collapse" of western civilization, and the terran dominion and other fringe systems are the last remains of western civilization and religion , the more you know!
''Attention! Defenders of the United Earth Directorate, this is Admiral DuGalle. You were all briefed before we left Earth, so you know that we have come here to conquer this sector in the name of Humanity. Should any of you have second thoughts about performing your assigned duties, be reminded that if we fail in our mission here, not one of us will be going home. We stand or fall together in this forsaken wasteland! Serve the Directorate. Serve Humanity. All other priorities are secondary to victory! DuGalle out.''
"I wonder if Raynor has recruited some Medics and Valkyries that disagree with DuGalle. We need the Directorate's technology. It may serve us just well..."
You know friend? I was supposed to be your 36th like or thumbs up, but then I noticed not to ruin your 00:00 to 00:35 and you've got 35 likes currently which is sick if not coincidental. Absolutely magnificent! Sorry. 😂
Them capturing the Overmind (after hours of overcoming invincible sunken colonies, smacked up ultralisks and infested terrans) was their finest hour that lasted all but a minute.
If I had been on the development team for Starcraft 2, I would have put in an option to have the original tracks be able to play along with the new ones. They are that fuggin' epic and brings me back to the 90's and early 2000's hard and fast haha.
For the longest time growing up, I thought that DuGalle was Russian (the valkyries too for that matter) and I had imagined the events of Starcraft were set in some alternate timeline where the USSR won the Cold War. It wasn't until much later (like college) that I actually read DuGalle's farewell that he signed off "au revoir" and remembered that the valkyries say "jawol" that I realized the UED is basically just a mish-mash of European ethnicities.
The U.E.D invasion of Korpulu has begun. This theme really gives you perspective on the Army you are commanding , this is not an army of criminals and space farmers , You are a far better equipped and motivated army of well trained troops led by two Veteran Admirals
Good times, I played the crap out of Brood War, and I could do it all over again, just to have the opportunity to be to listen to this fantastic music. Kudos to Glenn Stafford and Jason Hayes.
Brood War tracks were the foundation for a lot of Warcraft music to come. This could've easily been a track for the Human faction in WC3. The Blizzard music team has always done outstanding work!
It's a great loss that computer games have become highly commercialized products..Beautiful visions have ended, but I still have hope not only for independent games.
Stukov is still out there, if his "resurrection" is officially canon. Sad he can never go home nor bring back his friends even if they had his human version killed, though his infested version killed what Samir Duran became (which is another convolution in itself).
I always got pumped playing terran listening to this. If I knew something about music(can't even read it) I'd focus on that badass Russian march melody and remix it to have a whole bass brass section booming it out loudly. I think a bass choir section like from Hunt for the Red October and a rock guitar would be in order. And a string section for some more somber emotional highlights and to give the crescendos extra staying power. And tragic harp arpeggios as the orchestra dies down in the end.
Non-reply to an old comment saying humans and Terrans are the same thing: You know what else are Terrans? Cows. Dinosaurs. The idea of dragons. StarCraft. Your mom.
"Attention unknown Terran forces. You are trespassing on a Dominion military facility. Withdraw now or be eliminated." "It appears Boralis' defenders are now aware of your presence Captain. Hold your ground, continue your attack."
