Terrestrial moss submerged in an aquarium? Yes it's possible! I've been getting requests and questions about this for some time and as I said in replies, I'll do it at some point. It took awhile to make it happen, but I had my reasons. After all was said and done I think we ended up with an awesome tank!
If this is something that interests you, I definitely encourage you to give it a try. I can't guarantee that all them will work, but it's worth experimentation on your part. I would advise against using pillow moss and large hair cap moss (see the below video for more info on that).
Collecting and Identifying Moss: • Collecting & Identifyi...
Another video that could be of use in the one I did awhile ago on propagating moss. Check it out if you're interested: • How to Propagate Your ...
The rest of the video speaks for itself! Let me know what you think about the scape and the concept. Like I said understanding the growth patterns of plants will really help you blur the lines between terrarium and aquarium, so be sure to do your research!
If you have any further questions, be sure to leave a comment and I'll do my best to get back to you! Also for additional content like this, photos of my terrariums, projects sneak peeks and more, follow me on Instagram @SerpaDesign. / serpadesign

Cameron Thomas Tanner is for sure The Goat of all things nature. I learn something new every time I watch and I watch them 2 to 10 times and will keep on watching them over and over . I'm addicted to moss. Moss is underrated . I am a lucky girl . I live where there is an ABUNDANCE of it . Also my son lives on a farm and it's every place . My newest love is raindeer moss but have a question. Raindeer moss seems to be full blown up star moss for it seems where the star moss is , raindeer moss is close by and with further examination it looks like its star moss that has changed its clothing due to super cold nights . But the weather here in SW Virginia has been so warm for a long time we have only hit the freeze so far this season about 8 times . And will raindeer moss stay lime green in our glass houses of everything this girl needs right now.

Tanner, I discovered your videos around 2 years ago, during the early "How to Terrarium" series of videos, and I have to commend you on how far you've come since then. Everything from the editing, narration, and just your personality on screen has evolved into a much more professional and clean experience all around from back in those early days. Not to say that it wasn't great content back then, but the progress that you've made has been a joy to watch. The only thing that hasn't changed is the pure quality of the terrariums you build and graciously share with us. You have reached an amazing level of entertainment, informative content, and sheer relaxed viewing in every video, with this one being the pinnacle so far in my opinion. Thank you for sharing this passion with all of us and for attempting to both entertain and teach all your viewers something about this craft. I know that my own interest and drive to build beautiful, living works of art like this has only increased with my viewership. Thank you again for all the time you've devoted to sharing your love of nature with the world in these videos. I look forward to as much time as you will continue to share these experiences; your new videos are always a highlight of my week. Thank you.

Thanks again, Tanner. After two years of saving, buying, etc I did my first planted tank today. I had to spend $60.00 more dollars which was hard and on the way out of the store I look at the small nano tanks. I want to build one so much but the tanks are so expensive. Used tanks around here sell for unreasonable prices but I never thought about removing the plastic. Perhaps I can build a nano tank by the end of the year.

If ever there was a topic that required an update video it's this one. I've been wondering for some time now if terrestrial mosses can adapt to being submerged in an aquarium set up, as it would just put a huge dent in the cost of the hobby if one could go outside and collect free mosses and propagate them at home! Please, pretty please, let us know how this went! Even if it's just a pinned comment saying the outcome! A setup like this truly needs a progress report as you could potentially have it submerged for months and months only for the mosses to finally reach their limit and self destruct. For example I've had Pothos grow submerged for up to 5 months, before suddenly and rapidly just melting away. Love all your content so freakin' much, man! Bless.

@SerpaDesign You should consider using black latex paint instead of the paper. With the paint you don't have problems with condensation between the glass and paper. The paint also appears darker then the paper. Latex paint is a quick easy removal with a scraper and sponge when you're done with it.

Really nice! Would love to see an update if you still have it. No worries if not. I get so much inspiration from your videos! Keep up the good work.
