I have had my 2022 Pro S RWD, for over 15 months and 50k miles and also never had a fanton brake. It also works great on city roads. In my 2020 M3 SR+, I had many issues with the fanton brake. Also the lane keep assist on the ID.4 works better in the rain.

My 2020 SR+ has improved with OTA updates and phantom braking has been reduced. Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe, we have plenty more VW and Tesla content coming!

In most cases, "phantom braking" is just the car trying to do the speed limit (it automatically reads speed limit signs). You can disable that with the latest software, which should eliminate any "phantom" slowing down. Tesla has three backup cameras. I use those for cross-traffic checking. Yes, Autopilot needs a "suspend" mode. You do not need to apply torque to the steering wheel, just touch one of the buttons on the steering wheel. I increase/decrease the volume.

You can enable a feature from the ACC menu to have it slowdown on tighter bends on country roads. The TravelAssist can’t keep with the bends but at least you can have the ACC on. I use it almost daily on my commute, where I set the ACC to 70kph and it will then slowdown 5-15 kph on certain bends.

@@BUNKERPT yes it is and it’s been a feature on some vw models for few years. I don’t know the English wording for the switch, but roughly translated it’s “predict the way of the road”.

@@testi2025 I'm pretty sure the 2024 ID4 has predictive cruise control, you can set both react to route & permissible speed in ACC. Not sure if older models have it.

Interesting. Travaled over 6000 Miles in my 2023 Model Y and not even onve had a Phantom Brake. My Brother in his 2021 Model 3 had in about 50.000 Miles a few from which nearly all we than could point to specific Signallights in Tunnels which the Tesla misinterpreted as a Motorcycle backlight. They did fix that with a update tough. One time a Bicycle without Rider standed a little bit in a Crosssection behind a Car and it saw it late an braked hard. But i wouldn't really call that a Phantombrake. So real Phantombrakes where out of nowhere he had maybe 5 in 50.000 Miles. I wonder why some people seems to has much more.

Great question. I just had the first phantom brake yesterday that I have had in months and months. In recent years, for me anyway, it’s very rare but it does occur.

I also noticed that it was clearly noisier in the Tesla than in the ID 4. I keep skipping back and forth and compare. ID 4 is quieter.
@EVeryMile01
@EVeryMile01 7 месяцев назад
Yes, very much so. However, mine is a 2020 Model 3 and I know the newer ones are quieter. I doubt it’s as quiet as the ID.4 though. I’ll soon be renting a Model Y to test and that will be the best and most interesting comparison. Thanks for watching.

Yeah, for real. It’s a 2020 model (built in December 2019) before they added acoustic glass and more absorbent interior materials. Still drives like a dream! Our ID.4 is much more quiet. Thanks for watching!!

It’s okay but doesn’t slow down for turns in the road and is nowhere near as good as Autopilot on the backroads.

Does Travel Assist wander much in the lane on freeway instead of staying in center like Tesla can? I find Tesla Autopilot never weaves in the lane except on purpose to stay slightly away from trucks
@EVeryMile01
@EVeryMile01 7 месяцев назад
Not at all. If anything, I would say Travel Assist is better at staying in the lane than Tesla, which can sometimes get confused when a line widens, for example. However, that's gotten much better over the years with software updates. Thanks for watching.

If you don't touch the steering wheel, what does Travel Assist do? Does it simply deactivate, or does it bring the car to a gentle stop?

Interesting; When we tap down on the right stock, it activates Autopilot, indicated by the MAX speed lighting up BLUE, including two lines delineating the lane. When the stock is double tapped it activates FSD, indicated by the BLUE steering wheel, and a single thick BLUE line emanating from the front of the vehicle icon on screen… Curious; The Tesla recognizes the speed limit changes even on the highway and adjusts accordingly, does the ID4 do the same… Also, in the Tesla, if the driver anticipates a traffic situation ahead you can indicate a lane change and it will change lanes while still remaining in Autopilot… 🤔
@EVeryMile01
@EVeryMile01 8 месяцев назад
I believe Travel Assist can adapt to speed limit signs (it definitely reads them), but I do need to test that. You have FSD in your Tesla, which allows automatic lane changes. The base autopilot that comes with the cars does not. Thanks for watching.
