thats cuz Tesla is a basic car to get from A to B. Elon doesn't care about the cool interior factor. It's too bad cuz that made the difference when I bought my Merc last year. It was either Model Y or GLC Coupe and Merc interior is way better. Maybe Tesla will have better interior in 10 years.

Tesla probably did this by design. Im sure their marketers looked this up. Human psychology. Now people get to individualize their products and tinker with DIY stuff….feeling all special and unique…. Tesla RU-vid videos all over the place. Geniuses. Or they just dont want to blow the competition out of the water… want the legacy car makers to keep up….

Awesome video, the lights look amazing. You mention in the comments that the lights use the 12V battery, is there a danger of it draining the 12v battery? I would rather have it connect to the main big battery haha

Thank you! 😊 Draining out the 12V battery shouldn't be concern as Teslas automatically top up the 12V battery using the power from the main battery as and when required (even when the car is in standyby mode). So indirectly it's using a tiny amount of power from your main battery anyway haha

Yeap not very much at all. That was our concern initially too but the easiest answer is “hardly any” because it’s actually using up the car’s 12V battery to power it and not the main one. So the drain is negligible, if any 🙂

Nice video thanks! Few questions please if you don’t mind: is it true that illuminators become very hot? Is the sentinel mode avoiding the lights to turn off as it sends power to usb and the line is unique with the ciguarette lighter? Thank you!

Hey thank you 😊 and you’re more than welcome to ask as many questions as you like! The light doesn’t heat up as it’s essentially just a tube passing a ray of light across itself so there is no heat generated from what we have noticed. Yes unfortunately as the sentry mode keeps the car continuously awake, the lights won’t auto turn off when you exit the car. However, we find it relatively easy to manually switch it off. Hope this helps!

do you have to turn these on every time you get into the car? or if the mode is on will it turn on and off when the car "starts"?

Hey Nick, it takes about 15-30 mins to turn off as you leave the car because the 12v port stay active until the car sleeps. Once you return to your car and open any door, it does turn on again 🙂

Hi Arsh, that’s an excellent question. No, unfortunately they do not “instantly” turn off as the 12v port keeps receiving power for a while even after locking. However, they do turn off after car goes to sleep mode which roughly takes around 15-30 mins after locking from what we’ve noticed.

Why did you fast forward around the corners with tool? I can't get it in the corners at all. Looks like you fast forwarded in the same place the manufacturer does in their video as well. Where do you put the tool? to make space? You made it look like you put it on top of the retractable cover?

Hi Hoagie, oh really? It actually slid into the gap of the trim for me relatively easily around the corners as you can tell from the video which is the reason I didn't over emphasize it. I just put the tool in between the slider cover of the storage and the silver trim which lifted it up very slightly creating a little gap for me push through the strip. I hadn't actually seen the manufacturer's video so I am not sure how they did it. Give it anyother try and let me know if it worked for you :)

It's actually not as bright or in your face in person to be honest. And you can always tone down the brightness from the app to get more of an ambient feel 😊

Hey quick question I recently got mine in the car and my tubes are getting pinched when I close the console door. Did yours do that? How should the tube be line to go in the console compartment?

Hello, when I put the led strip around the console, I have the impression that my sliding cover of the storage space in the front closes more difficult because the silver edge is pressed against the cover by the led strip. so scratches can occur because it sands. did you not experience that?

Hmm that’s interesting. Mine has been working perfectly fine just like it used to before the installation of the strip. Might be an issue with the alignment of the one in your car possibly

So do they turn on when u turn on the car, and off when you turn them off? Also can u set brightness? I can see it’s disturbing when driving? How does it look when driving at night? Soooo many questions!

No worries, happy to answer all your questions 🙂No, unfortunately they do not “instantly” turn off as you leave the car since the 12v port keeps receiving power for a while even after locking. However, they do turn off after car goes to sleep mode which roughly takes around 15-30 mins after locking from what we’ve noticed. And then they do turn on again after you get in. Yeap you can indeed adjust the brightness from the app so it's not disturbing at all while driving. It actually looks super nice during night drives 🙂

I would put the dash lights in my car but I lease my model 3 and don't want to void my warranty. I put lights in the back of the front seat covers instead.

Hey the installation is very non obtrusive and can be easily reversed so shouldn’t really the affect the warranty. But yes great point and better doing what you’re comfortable with for sure 🙂

How is the 3m tape? Is it easy to remove afterwards ?

The 3m tape is holding up well so far, however, on hot sunny days there maybe an issue of the adhesive weaking overtime which would require replacement of the tape. But yes it's super easy to pull off and comes off very cleanly.

Hey yes you sure can, there's a version of the kit that only has the light strip for just the center console which is also slightly cheaper than the one that also includes the dash light strip. Use the same link in the description and you will be able to selected just the center console version 🙂

No sadly it doesn't automatically turn off instantly - you have to wait for the car to enter sleep mode which can take, from experience, anywhere between 10-40 mins after you exit the car. And there is no sensor to detect darkness so manually controlling these light seems to work the best in my opinion. Not a big hassle as the switch is easily accessible or you can turn it on/off from the app.

Yeap it doesn't cause any noticeable drain if you don't turn them off. They will automatically turn off in about 20-40mins when the car goes to sleep mode.

Dude. This light don't switch off when the car is closed and locked. Please tell how you switch off. Manual off button or pull the plug?

Hi Michael, ours turn off about 15-30mins after locking the car when the car goes into sleep mode. Do you use any third party apps that prevent your car from sleeping? But yes you can just turn it off through the on/off button on the 12v plug or the through the phone app.

Hey they’re actually not the bright in person so we don’t personally find them too distracting. In the demo, they were also at max brightness so you can certainly tone them down quite a bit to make it more subtle.

To be honest this kit is completely rubbish! The tape on the dashboard did not even last 5 min! Not even 3M tape. Please Tesla lovers be careful

Hey Joseph thanks for sharing your experience as it would certainly be helpful for other viewers. The tape that we got with the kit lasted about 3 months until peak summer hit when it started coming off due to direct heat from the sun. We got a stronger replacement 3M tape from the local hardware store and that’s been holding up well.
